Title: Palin finally speaks on immigration, supports path to citizenship

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she supports John McCain's position on immigration, including a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

It's the first time she's addressed the issue in depth, and her views are likely to shape her chances of leading the Republican Party should McCain fail to win the White House nect month.

She said she agrees with McCain, who fought most of his party in trying to legalize most illegal immigrants.

"John McCain has been so clear with his policy and it makes a lot of sense too. We secure our borders first. But then with a comprehensive approach we must deal humanely with those who are here, and we must allow the steps to be taken to protect the families of those who are here, maybe as illegal immigrants today," she told Univision's "Al Punto" Sunday political talk show in an interview aired this weekend.

She said she doesn't support "amnesty" because those here illegally should be shuttled to the back of the line for services.

"Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the law, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides."

She also said she opposes driver's licenses for illegal immigrants and said she would not halt immigration raids. She said decisions on raids should be made "on a case-by-case basis to consider all the ramifications of each individual action."

— Stephen Dinan, national political correspondent, The Washington Times

letters,

you have an non office holding powerless women on your brain , it's irrational.

Paul is in office and has authored and voted on numerous pro Mexico, pro amnesty bills.

IF the concern were illegals it would be rational to focus on those in power.

The US did not need a fence in the past.

Like when? You think the problem started with Bush? Nonsense. Have you studied the effects of the fence, where it exists? You call it a red herring, I call it effective. The fence is not the only border enforcement measure that is needed but it is certainly and integral part of it.

The Fence Works

Learn more about the fence

"path to citizenship", welfare, amnesty, free health care, no enforcement of employers who hire illegal aliens and birthright citizenship....

I can guarantee you that the smugglers are not interested in any of the above. Current fencing has already had an effect on their operations and they are fighting over territory to cross the border. The more fence that goes up, the more violene they create in Mexico. That is a proven fact, one that the MSM and others (obvioulsy yourself included) wish to ignore. The fence needs to be completed as mandated by Congress.

The problem went from a trickle to a tidal wave under Bush. Back in the 70's I don't recall illegal immigration being a problem. Lawns were cut, veggies available....without a fence. And without the illegals.

Perhaps you need to talk with your Minutemen Friends who btw did not start an organization until Bush came along.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minuteman_Project

The Minuteman Project is an activist organization started in April 2005[1] by a group of private individuals in the United States to monitor the United States–Mexico border's flow of illegal immigrants. Co-founded by Jim Gilchrist, the name derives from the Minutemen, militiamen who fought in the American Revolution. The Minuteman Project describes itself as "a citizens' Neighborhood Watch on our border", and has attracted media attention to illegal immigration.

That is probably because you don't live in a border state! You would be the first to want it if you did.

The border states did not need a fence in the past. You're not bright enough to figure out how that could have been possible.

I recall back in the 70's when there were very few illegals, there were no homes as we all lived in mud huts, lettuce was $50 a head and no one had a front or back lawn until the illegals arrived with a new invention called a "lawnmower".

Thank God for Bush as he bought America into the 20th century.

The so called anti immigration movement is full of a bunch of lightweights and moderates that are afraid to address the real issues. The fact is, they don't mind multiculturalism, and wouldn't mind if all those illegals came in if they signed some paperwork. All they care about is following the process and playing by the rules. Basically the movement comes down to a piece of paper. And the fact of the matter is, when you are just fighting for a piece of paper and electing Republicans the masses won't follow you. You might get a couple of 60 year old farts to counter protest the Mexica Movement or Atzlan but they will win in the end. The enemy will win because those opposing them pride themselves on being civil and wanting to preserve the system. But the fact is, the very system they wish to preserve supports continued illegal immigration. You need to get loud and radical. You need to be proud of your people and culture, just like atzlan are, and take the fight to the streets. You need to take Alinsky's rules for radicalism and apply them and win at the grassroots level like the far left did.

All these so called conservative "legal immigrant advocates" do is surrender the very platform they proclaim to support by election time and support a Pro Amnesty Republican because they are the lesser of two evils. They stifle the movement and then direct it to help the system.

Americans get murdered by the smugglers because LEA will do nothing about the problem. How many stories were there of the government taking sides with the illegals over Americans during trespassing and home invasions?

We all recall the incident with Ramos and Compean. And the other incidents of corrupt agents.

Have lost most of my business and having done more than 80 protests along with many other Americans after 9/11 under Bush was directly because of illegal immigration and traitors doing business with those that use illegal labor and outsourcing. There was no fence during the '90s.

The fence is a Red Herring. You're not going to get the same traitors to build a fence who refuse to do anything else to to stop them.

Yep - Jim sold out, that's what I hear. Simcox sold out too. Of course, Simcox sold out long ago.

My point is this - Illegal immigration has always been a problem - It did not start when Bush got in office.

The fence is not a red herring - it is an important part of border security. There are many important parts and not one part will be effective without the rest working along with it.

There was no fence during the 90's .... Illegal immigration was a problem in the 90's as well. In 1997, there was a "Good fences make good neighbors" rally - at the border. San Diego got their double layer fence and it significantly cut down the illegal alien traffic in that sector. The fence works. We need more of it. We had problems on the property here - with illegals - The fence alongside the property put an end to it. This portion of the fence has not been breached - It's only single layer - but it keeps them from coming through. Now, they simply go around it.

Fence Fails at Naco
We Need a Whistleblower
American Patrol Report -- November 2
U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehend a group of illegal aliens just east of the San Pedro River on Highway 92.

This morning while on patrol of the border, Glenn Spencer spoke briefly with a U.S. Border Patrol agent. "Things pretty quiet?" Spencer asked the agent. "Yes, it's quiet here, but not at Naco," the agent replied.
The agent was confirming something that Spencer and others who live on the border in this area see every day. Where an effective fence was built, such as along the border near the American Border Patrol ranch, few if people cross illegally. To the east of the San Pedro River toward Naco, Arizona the fence changes to a shorter, less robust type that is easily crossed or cut. As a result residents see the Border Patrol chasing or rounding people almost every time they drive along Route 92 that parallels the border.
"The story is the same all along the border," Spencer said, "Where a properly designed fence was installed apprehensions of illegal aliens drops significantly." Spencer says that the government has the data to back him up but they won't release it. "I hope someday someone in the Department of Homeland Security will have the guts to blow the whistle on this mess," he said.
