A longtime Fox News analyst sharply criticized the network on Tuesday, denouncing the outlet as a "propaganda machine" devoted to President Trump, and saying that it was "wittingly harming our system of government for profit,"

"Four decades ago, I took an oath as a newly commissioned officer. I swore to 'support and defend the Constitution,' and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform," Peters wrote in the letter sent to a handful of colleagues. "Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers. Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association. Now I am ashamed."

Here is Peter's going off the rails, calling 0bama a "total pussy" some years back.

Peters has a long history of flaky and hysterical outbursts. It surprises me that they didn't get rid of him much sooner.

Absolutely right.

Peters seems to have lost control of his emotions quite easily. He's immediately triggered and goes on these over-emotional, infantile tangents. FNC is now run by Murdoch's liberal sons. I'm actually surprised they cut him loose.

Not that surprising really.

You recall they had another colonel on for military commentary, another old dude like Peters. I think his name was McInerney. He kind of imploded himself with insisting that that airliner that went missing over the southern Pacific (supposedly) had been diverted to somewhere in Russia. Or something like that.

He still made some scattered appearances after that but was gone completely after about 6 months.

Then we can recall how Judge Napolitano blew up his own weekend show on FNC with a major outburst. He apologized profoundly and was less visible for some time but now appears regularly as a guest on various FNC shows, clearly still under a contract for regular appearances at a set rate for the network.

I suspect this outburst from Peters is because he was told his contract wasn't being renewed. As I mentioned, FNC has been trying out various younger military guys to be regulars on their shows. There were two young guys who had been SEALs and there are two slightly older War College/West Point types. They're all being auditioned.

And FNC does sometimes reduce its contracts with regular "guests" (actually, FNC employees under contract). Mike Baker was an ex-CIA guy who lives in Idaho and has some smallish private security company. He was on the old late-night Red Eye show a lot. He also appeared on some of the daytime shows as an intel expert and even on a few of the evening opinion shows. However, he has had a lot less demand for his services at FNC in the last year or two. But he does other media stuff so his FNC resume contributes to how much he can get on his other media gigs.

As for military commentary, FNC still relies on General Keane. He is their mainstay, I think. John Bolton is another regular of this type.

FNC is after all an organization and they pay their show hosts and they pay the guests and often arrange free travel to NYC and hotels. This can also apply to show hosts. When Huckabee did his show for years on Saturday nights, he flew in on Thursdays to line up the show and make an appearance to promote his Saturday-night show by appearing with a little preview segment on Friday morning's Fox & Friends show, as regular for Huckabee as those Monday morning calls from Trump to Fox & Friends were for years before Trump actually ran for prez.

Shit, I've cut way back on viewing it but I do know too damned much about FNC. LOL

I do recall McInerney.

I don't recall his obsession with that missing airliner (which I admittedly dismissed as distraction and "non-news.")

In your opinion, was he passionate because he thought someone was lying about the truth? Or because he seemed a bit too loony?

Then we can recall how Judge Napolitano blew up his own weekend show on FNC with a major outburst. My recollection of Judge Nap was that he got too close to the truth for the Powers That Be. Especially with respect to Team 0bama. His apology IMO was about THAT, hoping it'd be enough not to be shut down. Those of us following Judge Nap knew he was crossing the line and would have to get jettisoned for speaking THE Truth.

I suspect this outburst from Peters is because he was told his contract wasn't being renewed. As I mentioned, FNC has been trying out various younger military guys to be regulars on their shows. I've rarely watched TV at all during the last year or so...but I'd read Peters column online at the NY Post. And yes, caught an occasional appearance on FNC (which can be seen online.)

Your theory may hold some water. Could be a minor reason Peters may have lost his composure. He seemed to regularly be popping facial blood vessels and veins nearly every time I saw him.

From what I observed, Peters was especially frothy and agitated over the networks balanced coverage of Trump and Trump's policies -- which fully validates by THE reason for his leaving, i.e., "propaganda machine" devoted to President Trump." The truth is, Peters was himself a "propagandist" and loyalist devoted to the philosophies and political establishment of the GOPe and Democrats.

FNC does sometimes reduce its contracts with regular "guests" (actually, FNC employees under contract).

Again, I'm sure Peters recognized that FNC used different "expert" guests from the military/intel communitah. Unless you feel it was mostly jealousy and narcissism on his part for his constant outbursts? That portrays Peters as extremely unstable. BUT, just like any Lefty who's been exposed being who they are.

As for military commentary, FNC still relies on General Keane. He is their mainstay, I think. John Bolton is another regular of this type.

Keane has seemed to respond in fairly measured tones.

Bolton is Bolton -- bombastic, brash and shooting from the hip (anyway, that's his "role.")

FNC is after all an organization and they pay their show hosts and they pay the guests and often arrange free travel to NYC and hotels. This can also apply to show hosts.

Huckabee is a very intelligent, savvy guy. You've also underscored his organizational skills.

I suppose budget is a concern for FOX...Still and all in the case of Ralph Peters, the guy had become a liability with a FNC audience who presumably began to get fed up with Peters' anti-Trump bias.

Shit, I've cut way back on viewing it but I do know too damned much about FNC. LOL

Yup, that was a pretty thorough overview. Your perspective of logistics and subtleties are things most of us don't consider. See? Even though neither of us watches regularly, the FNC playahs are still etched in our psyches. That's the power of tee-bee and regular viewing/conditioning ;-)
