Are you people REALLY so fucking stoopid you think Trump makes command decisions on raids like this? You want to know why they didn't get tac air from the French? They didn't get it because the poor SOB they tasked with leading that raid had no experience or training as a SF NCO,and didn't know enough to lay on the air cover and swap call signs and radio freqs BEFORE taking off on the mission. One you are ass-deep in Indians it's too damn late to start arranging for support, This sort of thing MUST be done prior to leaving your base camp,and it MUST be done by the people who are going to be on the ground in leadership positions. This is especially true when you are trying to call in fast movers whose pilots speak another language,have probably never trained with SF troops,don't know their tactics, and who come under the command of another Air Force. And don't try to blame the poor SSG goober on the ground that had this dumped in his lap and was ordered to do it. He was and is completely innocent. It's not his fault he didn't know what to do because it wasn't his job to do that and he had never been trained to do that. If you want to know who to blame,look around for someone in that command structure that is either a LTC or a Colonel.
If American military lives are at risk in any country without the approval and knowledge of the CIC/POTUS, then somebody isn't doing their job. You have never been in the military,have you? Presidents are "big picture" people. They don't involve themselves with the operations of small units. Nor should they,since none of them know a damn thing about small unit infantry operations. Or large unit operations,AFATG. With the exception of Eisenhower,of course. I'd be surprised if he was even informed about that operation until after it had already gone bad,and turned from a military operation into a political discussion.
Do they involve themselves in the decisions about which sovereign nations the assets under their command operate in - or is that just delegated to the swamp these days?
