just got through baiting a trap,hoping to catch some Dims? Am I the only one wondering if Trump is playing "whack the mole" with the Dims,by going on tv with people like Fineswine and agreeing with them that "there should be laws to prevent these people from getting guns,and there should be background checks!",getting them to all smile for the camera and attempt to kiss his ass? Just imagine their joy at the thought of being able to brag that " President Trump is on our side,while your old white man congressman or Senator is glad school children were murdered by these evil weapons!" I wonder how happy they will be if he holds a press conference in a week or so to announce he had been wrong because there are ALREADY laws on the books that would have disarmed Cruz IF THE LOCAL DIM OFFICIALS HAD FOLLOWED THE LAW instead of ignoring crime to get federal grant money? He can then follow that up by naming the local sheriff and the local school board members,and cite the laws they ignored that allowed this to happen,stating that in essence the deaths were THEIR fault for allowing a mentally troubled youth they knew was armed to go free to shoot people? Trump will have already been on record and broadast into homes all over America,even leftist strongholds that never report anything positive a Republican does,and people/voters who really don't normally pay much attention to politics until it's time to vote will be saying to themselves,"Self,Trump CLEARLY proved he was for public safety and keep guns out of the hands of criminals last week,and now we find it it was the fault of the local Dim politicians,not lax or non-existent gun laws!" Trump will be on record as being FOR protecting the public by keeping guns out of the hands of crazy people,and he will be on tv saying how it was the Dims in Florida that keep EXISTING LAWS FROM BEING ENFORCED. Suddenly,he looks like a statesman concerned with public safety,and has been on tv saying the laws are already in place and we don't need more laws. Who are the voters going to believe then,the guy that was all for more gun control until he found out the exact laws he were proposing were already in place and being ignored,or the Dims,who will suddenly turn against him again? NOT saying this WILL happen,but he's done similar things in the past. Don't forget,his whole business model is based around convincing people he is a buffoon they can ignore and dominate,and then at the end he ends up being the one that leaves with the money. Poster Comment: I am NOT claiming this is what he is doing. I AM claiming it is a possibility,though.

During the White House meeting, Trump requested that Cornyn add his narrower NICS background check bill to other legislation such as a proposal that would close background check loopholes for people buying guns online or at a gun show. Trump also suggested increasing the age to purchase long guns to 21. Trump's whole career is been based on convincing people he is a buffoon,and they can sign on and then swindle him out of the money. Yet what seems to happen is that at the last minute he pulls a rabbit out of his hat and it ends up with HIM being the only one that profits as he walks away. The one thing everybody can agree on is that he is unpredictable,but that is not completley true. Everything he does is to benefit Trump and his reputation. Everybody and everything else is secondary. He will ALWAYS come first. THAT is something you CAN count on. In short,he is not a politician and owes none of the professional pols a single damn thing. It is also clear to ME,if not everyone else,that the most important thing in Trump World is his ego. Even profits run a distant second. Too early to tell,but it seems to ME that he might just be THE President we need at this particular time. He doesn't owe anybody a single damn thing,and all he cares about is winning and making himself look good. And there can be no question about us being better off with Trump than with Bubbette! In the entire history of the world,the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.
It is not too early to tell that all he wants is making himself look good, he is playing #metoo because it is convenient to do so and if no legislation emerges he gets the kudos and the reps get the bad rep

Yes, I think your theory is not only plausible but probable. Trump is weaponizing the Left's own loaded language against them. He's a master of baiting, deflection and diversion. He certainly needs to be to win public opinion, given the Leftist-Dem Media Machine works 24/7 against him.
True. That's why much of the globalist-GOPe hates and distrusts Trump. And besides -- they have Elites' rings to kiss and lobbyists waiting and bills to pay! The Dems are full blown Marxist-Totalitarians at this point. Trump is now at the juncture of being able to flex his Presidential muscle against them as well as against the GOPe now that the entire "RUSSIA!" BS card has failed. They do still have basically 90% of the MSM pounding away at Trump. He doesn't owe anybody a single damn thing,and all he cares about is winning and making himself look good. And THAT is a good thing. That means he will fight. All those people who've been filling up auditoriums, exhorting him on -- do you you think he's going to turn on them on the gun issue? NO WAY. They/WE make him the political "winner" he is; He was always a "winner" before he even ran for President.
On that we agree. Trump is playing devil's advocate, calculating no gun control measures will ever be legislated. He's learning politics fast. That's a GOOD thing for Conservatives and its Republican Wing, a BAD thing for the Dem-GOPe Globalists.

He's been playing politics his whole life. You can NOT be a successful real estate businessman in NYC without knowing how corrupt politics are,and how to play them to get what you want. He's just been in WHOLESALE politics before,where you bribe someone with favors or money to get what you want. He's in RETAIL politics now,and he is selling his agenda to the public,not the professional criminal class we call "politicians". As much as Trump loves himself,he is under NO illusion the politicans he has bought or rented over the years,or the ones he is dealing with now love him. He knows they are as incapable of loving anyone else as he is,but he CRAVES love and is looking for the love of the American public. Donald Trump is a ferocious battler. He CRAVES love and is looking for the love of the American public. He's won it too. (well, half of the American public.) I believe the guy is loyal as well. I don't think the Dims are serious about gun control. They use it for votes and expect Pubs in the Senate to squash it with all the parliamentary procedures. Stuff stays buried in the Senate for years and Trump knows this. So why not call their bluff. Meaning, take away a key issue the Dims dig up every election cycle like DACA. They are not interested in solving any problems, Trump knows this and as you say is baiting them. Trump is also looking at the midterms and knows he will need the gun measures solved. Those not on board will get a hailstorm of Tweets.

Cornyn's "Fix NICS" bill would tighten rules on the existing background check system to ensure that agencies upload information to the NICS. A[n]d that fewer people who do not qualify to buy a gun fall through the cracks.
