Analyzing the question, it's curious that he's in a bunk bed. That detail would likely be significant as most beds are not bunk beds. Bed is 10 feet from the switch, bunk bed is 8 feet above the floor -- a difference of 2 feet. So I would say the switch is located on the ceiling 2 feet above the bunk bed, easily within arms reach. Perhaps that may be too subtle. I'm alluding to the report of some news station showing a video of what an AR-15 could do to a watermelon, except the shooter was using a shotgun instead. The riddle states that the switch is turned off, and the boy gets in bed while the room is still lighted. So if he turned off the switch, the room would be dark if it is dark outside when he gets in bed.
