Gun Buyer Fills Out Background Check

Associated Press

A “White House source” informed Fox News that President Trump is open to raising the “minimum age for owning certain firearms.”

The federal minimum age for purchasing a handgun is 21-years old while the minimum age for purchasing a long gun is 18. The ability to buy long guns at age 18 came under scrutiny after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz carried an AR-15 into a gun-free zone in Florida and opened fire on students, killing 17.

Fox News reports that Trump is “open to…a rise in the minimum age for owning certain firearms” in the wake of the Florida attack.

This news emerged on the same day that Trump directed the DOJ to finalize plans to ban bump stocks amid the current gun control outcry. It also came on the day that NRP’s Mara Liasson asked White House Press Sarah Sanders if Trump would be willing to reinstate the 1994-2004 federal “assault weapons” ban. Sanders replied, “We haven’t close doors on any front.”

The Washington Post reports that the idea of raising minimum age for gun purchases came up while Trump was having dinner with Geraldo Rivera.

Riveria suggested “raising the minimum age at which a person could buy a semiautomatic weapon from 18 to 21.”

The AP reports the White House confirmed “the idea of raising the age limit to buy an AR-15 was on the table for discussion.”

Well that would be a start, they couldn't get weapons while in school, but how about extending that to all firearms and other lethal devices like cross bows and compound bows.

really the time for removing military grade weapons from the general population has come, it came long ago

really the time for removing military grade weapons from the police. I don't know why the people in this country put up with the waste of their tax dollars to kill other people in foreign countries. What goes around comes around. The killings will continue until the culture changes. Sleep with dogs and get up with fleas.

I do not go to church every time the doors are opened, but I love Jesus Christ. I am only human and fail Him daily. I believe Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was crucified on a cross, died for my sins and rose from the dead and that He loves us dearly, and is faithful to forgive us of our sins. But He says that if you deny me in front of your friends I will deny you in front of my Father. Can I get an Amen!

Yeah. That's working so well in Chicago.

Have you not figured out Trump yet?

This is how he suckers his opposition in and then gets his way which is nothing like what they thought they were going to get.

Prior to the event in Fla, demand & prices for so called " assault weapons " has been contracting, and calls for banning such weapons has been pretty much non existent. That will all change now. We will witness increase demand for assault weapon bans, and increase demand for such rifles, shrinking supplies, and we will also see increase prices for them.

History repeats.

You do realize that more people die from the pistol than "Assault" weapons?

I even believe that more people are killed with knives and bats than "Assault" weapons.

This is all about propaganda of the socialist who want to push their agenda using tragedies which is disgusting and if we had a real media they would be hammered for their BS.

Yes but "assault" weapons appear to be the weapon of choice for mass shooters. Whether the population should be armed is a different debate than whether assault weapons should be available to the general population. Take away the devices of mass murder and you make it less viable for these people to attempt mass murder. They may still attack but the casualty list will be smaller. With proper checks on ownership they may not even be able to gain access to their weapon of choice. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. Guns in the hands of those who should not have them kill people.

You need to loose the hillbilly mentality, you are no longer roaming the woods or in danger of indian attack

If not guns it would be bombs. Crazy people do crazy stuff. I believe one of the worst mass murders was a school bomb from a pissed off exjanitor who blew up the school. The only reason we know about gun shootings is MSM pushing socialist/communist propaganda.

Serial killers far out murder mass shooters.

The more MSM has a communist bent on news these mass murders will be promoted in the news which will feed more mass killings. Remember police chases? The more MSM promoted it the more they happened. Now that government and police got unto the MSM for non stop coverage of police chases it cut the crazy people out of their 15 minute fame and it nearly stopped them all.

The media is not responsible for the shootings. You can live in blissful ignorance if you want too. the people who are responsible for the shootings are the people who sold the guns, the merchants of death

MSM promote bad acts which causes copy cats murders.

MSM is more responsible for mass murders than the weapon used. Whether the weapon is a gun, a bat, a bomb or vehicle. They constantly put it in the news with highly scripted interviews and sobbing victim and family members. Mental ill people pickup on this and run with it.

This is representative of what I found and so I just choses this chart for ease of relating data.

The second graph puts into prospective of real violence. The number one killer of people by firearms is pistols and rifles are not even close. You are more likely to be killed by a shotgun than an "Assault rifle"!

Like I said its MSM socialist propaganda that is pushed and childish minds suck it up as truths!

I agree the debate has been hijacked by emotion. Yes the carnage wrought by assault rifles is small relative to their presence in the population, however the carnage has been rising since the ban has been lifted because they are a weapon of choice and the imagination of sick minds and obviously it is too easy to buy one. You left the statistics for hand guns out of your graph, I wonder why

The real debate is why vested interests are allowed to dictate policy when lives are at stake and there are many who are killed by guns. The presence of so much violence in the community has to be tackled, and whether that is drugs, mental health or weapons of all types there needs to be a real effort

I saw a video made by an ex military officer and he made the case very plainly. The AR-15 is an accurate weapon on single shot but highly inaccurate on rapid fire and he was a trained shooter. Why then are untrained people allowed to possess them? Why also are people allowed to possess military style shotguns capable of inflicting equal carnage?

If you lived in South Africa. Would you think you had a right to a gun? Or would you just let the blacks take your land without compensation?

Actually these rifles have been around since the 60's.

The creator of the charts left out pistols which account for the most deaths.

Most "Mass murders" use pistol not Assault weapons which is progressive label of nonsense.

The real question is why should the people be dependent on government who failed miserable to protect the people over and over again? Should the people not be able to defend themselves and family against crazy people?

"I saw a video made by an ex military officer and he made the case very plainly. The AR-15 is an accurate weapon on single shot but highly inaccurate on rapid fire and he was a trained shooter. Why not? AR15 are not automatic! They are semiauto. Meaning you have to pull the trigger every time just like a revolver. The reason why we should have those types of guns is because government has those guns.

obviously in that situation I might have some personal protection however I think being armed to the death is a recipe for provoking such people and the arms may even be an attractive target. Unless you are part of a group who can protect a defensible area you are just looking for trouble. I certainly would not want access to guns to be universal
