Sports Title: Ratings for NBC's Olympics Continue to Stink on Ice Actually it's a combination of things, though I'm sure the little political statements from Olympians who don't even get a medal aren't helping. As Donny Two Scoops might say, "Me? I like Olympic heroes who crack the single-digits in rankings, not the ones who take tenth place." The 2018 Winter Olympics have produced few medal winners from Team USA and provided little must-see TV for broadcaster NBC On Monday, NBC learned that Mikaela Shiffrin was withdrawing from downhill and figure skater Adam Rippon turned down a correspondent offer This comes after Shiffrin placed fourth in the slalom last week just minutes before figure skater Nathan Chen fell during his disastrous short program A weather delay meant her lone gold happened outside of prime time NBC is also without its two veteran anchors this year, Matt Lauer on Today and Bob Costas of NBC Sports This means Al Roker has been paired with Craig Melvin for awkward buddy segments in South Korea while Mike Tirico is in for Costas at NBC Sports Television ratings have been down double digits from the Sochi Games and on Saturday hit a low of 13.62 million viewers. I can't believe the article cited the absence of Matt Lauer and Bob Costas as drawbacks. The article notes that the showdown between Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding -- admittedly, an event that had more than just sport going for it-- drew nearly ten times as much as NBC's Saturday rating -- the Kerrigan/Harding face-off drew more than 125 million. He turned NBC down, saying he wanted to stay with his fellow Olympians to teach them the Courage to Lose. Below, an exciting moment from this competition. (Not real -- a guy named Bob Menery does his Fake Sportscaster Voice over actual clips.) Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread |
