Title: While in Louisville, Chuck Schumer slams Rand Paul's government shutdown as 'hollow'

While speaking at the University of Louisville's McConnell Center on Monday, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, says Rand Paul is only concerned about deficit when it’s convenient.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Monday slammed Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul's single-handed effort to stop a budget deal and shut down the government last week.

"His idea of railing against the deficit on this bipartisan deal after he supported a $1.5 trillion deficit for tax cuts, 80 percent of which are aimed at the top one percent, is very hollow," Schumer said.

Schumer, a New York Democrat, was speaking at the University of Louisville as a guest of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Paul came up during a question- and-answer session.

McConnell, R-Kentucky, also opposed Paul's interjection.

Paul, a Republican, had objected to a deal that lifted strict budget caps and allowed politicians to spend an extra $300 billion over the next two years on defense and domestic programs.

The bill eventually passed, and Paul's objection triggered the shortest government shutdown ever, at roughly six hours, according to USA TODAY.

“We have Republicans hand-in-hand with Democrats offering us trillion-dollar deficits,” he said on the Senate floor. “I want people to feel uncomfortable" voting in favor of big deficits.

Damned Gatlin you have gone whole hog for the Democrats. First Obama's speechwriter, now this.

Next thing you'll be quoting the ACLU.

Damned, Stone, don’t be so narrow-minded and only think subjectively.

In no way did I agree with the content of the article.

I simply deemed it newsworthy because it pointed out that Schumer was invited there by McConnell. I though what is the Hell is McConnell doing with his ass-kissing Schumer.

Next thing you'll be quoting the ACLU.
I already have, twice this morning. And I will continue to post all stories I feel are newsworthy until you forbid me to do so.

You come up with some fantastically crazy notions at times, Stone....one of which is that a person agrees with an article that he posts. That does not have to be the case. Any clear minded and logically thinking person should realize this..

You need to learn to think...and not only always react.

Yes I do.

But this relates to your anti Rand Paul beliefs that you keep posting about. Seems like you are using cockroach Schumer to make your point.

Yes you can post any news that interests you.

Definitely not....you had the wrong vibes. Try to always ask me questions and don’t make assumptions, please.

Thanks, I will also post articles I feel may be of intest to others. They may be controversial. But posting them in no way means that I agree with them. Anytime you want to know where I stand, just ask me.

Thank you for your courtesy and the opportunity to post on LF ...

I would like to take this opportunity to relate to you my feelings on the Tea Party, the Freedom Caucus and Rand Paul. I believe this is necessary in order that we better understand each other’s positions. I will try, try to make this brief.

I begin by stating that I was strongly pro Tea Party when it formed in 2009, the same with the Freedom Caucus when it formed in 2015 as an offshoot to the Tea Party and I felt that Rand Paul would be a great addition to the Senate when he was elected in 2010. I saw it all as a great happening and I was as happy then as I was when toilet paper replaced corn cobs on the homestead.

I became extremely enamored with the objectives they all so eloquently espoused. I looked upon it as the coming of a new Magna Carta for me. Show me a list of the top ten political objectives, then as well as now, of all those parties and I will probably agree with 8 of them without question and the last two with some modifications. I support their causes but I can no longer support them because of their actions..

The reason is that as I discovered their ideas were right, I slowly grew to be profoundly disappointed to watch them engage using their various methods....and I began to see that their methods were so wrong and grossly obnoxious. I could probably list up to a hundred reasons for the disappointment, but I will stick to only one or two to explain my position.

First the Tea Party. As quickly as they started to move forward, the TP just as quickly started to argue and fight among themselves. As a example: New York wanted what it wanted and was firmly against what Texas wanted. California was strong on its demands and totally opposed to what Florida was working at. And so on. They were all acting like prima donnas and would not compromise with each other in the interest of moving forward with mutual goals. As a result of this, the Tea Party is in disarray today and almost dead.

The Freedom Caucus next. Some Republican alpha males formed the group in the House to get at least 30 members and knew that when they controlled the actions of 30 of the Republican members of the House and with the Republicans in the majority....they had control of the House. Or so they thought that would be the case. Some posters here on LF shit their pants when the see the acronym NWO and they set their keyboards on fire bashing nasty posts about the New World Order “secret” organization out to control the world. Yet those same idiots will readily accept that the Freedom Caucus operates in “secret” behind closed doors and to this day still refuses to list the names of their members and whose goal is to control the House. Give me a fucking break. Hypocrisy, anyone?

And lastly there is Ron Paul, a gentleman whom I believed would go to Washington and do good. He turned out to be an egotist who is always looking for face time on media TV cameras. That was his thing. The reason “Mister Paul went to Washington.” And as one article so correctly stated, he enjoys his role as the evil disruptor of Republicans. Ron Paul became to the Senate what Deckard already was to LF. I will only mention two of the many dramatic incidents he created that were not only disappointing to me, but actually pissed me off. There were many incidents before, but the one that cause the shit to hit the fan with me was when he called a press conference and had the reporters follow him with their cameras recording....as he pulled his little red wagon with a portable copy machine over to the House side, knocked on the door and demanded to copy a bill being worked on. Another one was his asinine display of keeping the Senate open until past midnight when the networks’ TV cameras were turned off at the end of prime time. He had done all he could do to stop the bill, everyone knew the good and bad points of the bill. Everyone, including Rand Paul, knew that nothing was going to stop the bill from passing. Yet, he had to hold up the Senate until after midnight when prime time ended, before allowing a vote. He was even offered more time after midnight, but he declined....after all, the media TV cameras were no longer panning live action on the floor for the personal gratification of Rambo Randy.

I have no problem with you supporting whom or what you wish to support and I will never try to change you mind. And while I fully expect that you will continue to disagree with me....I leave now with the hope that you at least understand the reasons I have for holding my positons. And also the reason I will continue to close by posting: “We have met the enemy....and the enemy is us.”

Thanks for your attention....and “I yield back the remainder of my time.”
