To answer your question, "drones" but to use "God" as the author seems a bit far fetched. I think John the apostle wrote the entirety of the contents within Revelations during his struggles of life just before his death.
John, the Apostle, was in humongous pain & suffering in his last days on Earth by the Romans. All men and woman who undergo such strife have vivid visions of and about reality. I don't know the reasons but I do know it is a fact from many people across the globe and through recorded history.
I am much more interested in how a man in sheer physical agony could have had his visions recorded and preserved to this day. To me, the Romans should have destroyed all of his writings. Yet, it is not the case.
