Some of those old movies are pretty decent. I'm thinking about watching French Connection again, as much for that car chase scene as anything else. I watched Bullitt with McQueen again a while back but, while it was a good chase scene, much of the best part was ruined by their fast-motion playing of the chase footage to make it look insanely fast, a cheesy film trick back in the day.
