Haverluck Deported DACA dudeResearch shows that one in four illegal aliens dubbed as “Dreamers” by former President Barack Obama under his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are “functionally illiterate” in English, while nearly half only speak a little English. Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) Director of Research Steven Camarota called out Democrats’ exaggeration of illegal aliens’ assimilation into the United States, crediting “watered-down” academic standards with making high school diplomas failed indicators of adequate language skills for American youth … while noting that CIS statistics indicate that immigrants also overstate their literacy skills. “When Hispanic immigrants – who make up some 80 to 90 percent of DACA recipients – recently took an objective test of English literacy, 44 percent of those who said they speak English ‘well’ or ‘very well’ actually scored ‘below basic’ – a level sometimes described as functional illiteracy,” Camarota reported in an op-ed on CIS’s website. In fact, about a quarter of Obama’s so-called “Dreamers” cannot even read and write, with nearly half of them being barely able to get by using the English language. “Based on test-takers with the required age and residency, I estimate that perhaps 24 percent of the DACA-eligible population fall into the functionally illiterate category and another 46 percent have only ‘basic’ English ability,” Camarota shared from a major CIS study conducted in 2016. But time for DACA recipients could be running out soon, as President Donald Trump is slated to officially end Obama’s pro-immigration program in March. However, the tough-on-immigration conservative could make some concessions and give Dreamers a break if Democrats land on the same page with the president in the upcoming weeks regarding funding for his border wall he wants to extend across the entire southern boundary of the U.S. Dreamers’ dreams not too big If DACA does draw to a close in the upcoming weeks, it would mean major savings for American taxpayers. “The research showing a lack of English proficiency among DACA illegal aliens comes as the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report revealing that nearly 1 in 5 illegal aliens eligible for DACA would end up on food stamps within 10 years,” Breitbart News reported. Above and beyond food stamps, nearly three out of four dreamers are eligible to receive free meals at school on U.S. taxpayers’ tab – not to mention a smorgasbord of other free handouts. “The majority of DACA illegal aliens also live in low-income households, according to a study by Harvard scholar Roberto Gonzales outlined by the Center for Immigration Studies,” Breitbart News’ John Binder explained. “That study found that 73 percent of illegal aliens covered by DACA are living in low-income households, qualifying for free lunch at American public high schools, as well as other federal welfare benefits.” And despite the bright educational outlook for DACA recipients touted by Democrats, those designated by Obama as Dreamers are not expected to continue their formal education much past their high school diploma. “[O]nly four percent of DACA illegal aliens have completed a college education, making the DACA population far less likely than the native American population to finish college with a degree,” Binder added. Dreaming behind bars? Even though Obama and Congressional Democrats have a history of referring to Dreamers as child prodigies with bright futures who will ascend the educational ladder with “skies the limit” futures and potential, many have been found to not only be a drain on American tax dollars because of a lack of self-sufficiency and language skills, but because of their delinquent behavior. According to statistics revealed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) last year, the federal agency was forced to revoke the eligible status of more than 1,500 DACA recipients due to criminal convictions they had – or because of some type of gang affiliation they had on their records. Are Democrats the true ‘Dreamers?’ Immigration critics often point out Democrats’ lofty and unrealistic expectations that they have for Dreamers when touting their pro-immigration reform bills and amnesty agenda. The first time Obama announced plans for his DACA program several years ago, he referred to them as de facto American citizens. "They are Americans in their heart, in their minds – in every single way but one: on paper," Obama stated in his speech on immigration policy in June 2012, according to the New York Times. Insisting that these illegal aliens arrived in the U.S. at an age before they even knew what the word “illegal” meant, he stressed that Dreamers were fully acculturated into American society in order to press his plea for their amnesty. “[DACA recipients are now facing] deportation to a country that [they] know nothing about," Obama proclaimed at the time, indicating that those wanting to enforce America’s immigration law were both unfair and irrational. Nothing to stop Trump from demanding they speak English, have a high school education, are not on any government assistance program, and have no criminal record before they are even considered for citizenship.
