Title: Over a Dozen Cops Swarm, Arrest Tiny Girl For Sitting Incorrectly on the Subway

Los Angeles, CA — Dramatic footage has just been released showing 18-year-old Bethany Nava, a West Hollywood resident, getting arrested for having her foot on the subway seat in front of her. According to the Facebook live video, Nava was riding the Red Line Metrorail when the confrontation with police occurred. An unnamed LAPD officer, a sergeant, had reportedly asked Nava to remove her foot from an adjoining seat but she didn’t immediately comply. “It doesn’t matter. You’re getting off the train right now. I already told you what to do but you disobeyed me,” he told her in a normal voice. He then ordered her to stand up and told her she would be getting off the train at the next stop. “I paid to be on the train, asshole!” Nava told the officer as he laid his hands on her and pushed her off the train. ”I’m 18. He’s taking me off the train for having my foot on the fucking seat,” she told the person recording. The officer whose badge number is 5203, was then surrounded by concerned citizens who accused him of abusing his badge and being on a power trip. ”You’re a fucking scumbag,” said Selena Lechuga, a concerned citizen who came to Nara’s defense and calling into question the officer’s actions in forcing the teenager off the train. “You’re impeding my investigation. Back away,” he told Lechuga. During the altercation, Nara attempted to flex her rights when the sergeant asked her for her ID. “I was on my way to the DMV. I have to meet my mother to get my ID. Cause I just turned 18. This is not fucking fair that you took me off the train because I had my foot there because I was comfortable like that. There is no law that tells me that I cannot sit that way because I PAID TO BE IN THERE!” Nara screamed. “It’s the rules of the train,” the officer stated. “What’s the fucking rules of the train,” she asked. Both Nara and Lechuga asked the officer to provide the rules of the train for them to read. “I don’t have any fucking ID I was about to go to the DMV to get it…I should not be going to jail right now!” she exclaimed. “I don’t have any form of ID. I don’t have any drugs. I don’t have anything that you can arrest me for! My foot was on a chair…what kind of fucking conflicts do you have that you need to take me off the train that I paid for,” she asked. “Nobody was trying to sit in the chair.” Soon after, backup officers arrived. Instead of questioning the validity of the arrest, they promptly placed the two ladies in handcuffs and carted them off to jail. According to CBS News LA, both women were cited for disorderly conduct on the train. However, that charge is now being called into question. One could argue the entire incident was started when the police officer escalated the conflict by demanding Nara forfeit her fare and leave the train. It was then and only then when tempers began to flare and choice words were used. While the officer appeared to just be doing his job, how he handled it will likely be seen as professional by supporters of law enforcement, and abusive by freedom loving citizens. Perusing through YouTube one can find a myriad of videos where citizens claim to have been harassed while riding the Metro. It’s unclear exactly how Nara was sitting which prompted the officer to remove her from the train, but de-escalation techniques could have been implemented. The entire incident may serve to illustrate just how easy it is to become a criminal in LA. Sitting on the seat incorrectly can now get you arrested.

If there are posted rules for "no feet on the seats", there is nothing wrong with this arrest. Also, the floors of subways and subway stations along with the streets in general are regular cesspools of filth. Not just dirt but dangerous bacteria, fecal matter, etc. So putting feet up on seats could pose a health risk to others by contaminating those seats. People on subways and trains can also put their feet up on adjacent seats or splay out so as to prevent anyone else from sitting near them, blocking them from occupying seats that they had paid for, possibly forcing them to stand. The cop did nothing wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of subway riders want the cops to stand up to these punks.
"if"... "rules"...?? Apparently, a lot of bystanders who probably use the subway frequently sided with the girl against the cop. That's generally a sign that the girl's sitting habits were acceptable norms on this subway. If there were "rules" (and not laws) against putting feet up on seats, the cop could have handled it in a much more amicable and friendly way, such as asking nicely and pointing out the health reason for it. But for too many cops, getting belligerent and physical with arrests is the only way to get messages across. You certainly have a thing about fecal matter lately.

How about the recent major hepatitus outbreak in CA? An additional 57 cases are under investigation, he said. Hepatitis A is commonly transmitted through contaminated food. The only outbreak in the last 20 years bigger than California’s occurred in Pennsylvania in 2003, when more than 900 people were infected after eating contaminated green onions at a restaurant. California’s outbreak, however, is spreading from person to person, mostly among the homeless community. The virus is transmitted from feces to mouth, so unsanitary conditions make it more likely to spread. The city of San Diego has installed dozens of handwashing stations and begun cleaning streets with bleach-spiked water in recent weeks. McDonald said county health workers have vaccinated 57,000 people in the county who are either homeless, drug users or people in close contact with either group. . . .
Regardless of politics, police should conform to the societal norms of the people they police. It's not the role of police to force a new standard of conduct upon entire societies. Sigh.....
What if their societal norm is peddling narcotics to children, molesting children and other helpless persons, letting pimps engage in white slavery, or just defying the law in general on principle? Do you understand the basic concept of rule of law? Sigh...

It is the “law.” The officer acted properly in accordance with Los Angeles City Ordinance Sections 6-05-40(A),6-05-100,6-05- 110,6-05-150,6-05-230(C) and Section 6-05-240(A) when he was directed and assigned duty aboard the Red Line Metrorail. Because of recent passengers complaints about the many various problems. the LAPD assigned officers to trains when they launched a recent crackdown on violations including eating, drinking, vaping, gambling, littering and placing feet or shoes on seats. The Ordinance was enacted pursuant to the authority granted to Metro by the California Penal Code Section 640(e) and the California Public Utilities Code Section 99580, et seq.

I decided to look for rules for LA subway riders. We find this on page 15 of L.A.'s Metro Rules and Regulations:
It has to be pretty bad because normally the subway is the jurisdiction of the sheriff's department, not the LAPD. It only makes things worse because L.A. has buses and subways that use fabric-covered seats, a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria, viruses, fecal material, even fleas and crabs.

Galliwiki: Public Ferry Schedules in the Galapagos Islands, 2016 Travel from Ecuador to the Galopagos by boat is possible but these are cargo ships and have very basic accommodations. They take 3-4 days on typically rough seas and cost the same as just flying to the islands. Almost everyone flies to the islands as a result.

It must have been going from “bad” to “worse” for the LAPD to specifically assign officers to trains to enforce the ordinance. The Los Angeles Police Department has now launched a use-of-force investigation into a videotaped incident in which a sergeant pulled a young woman from a Metro subway train and then detained her because she refused to take her foot off a seat, according to the video and authorities.
Some people who believe there should be no laws were pissed when the incident happened….they are going to be even more pissed when the investigation shows that the actions by the sergeant were proper and he was correctly complying with the law.
