The beloved musician's system showed traces of fentanyl, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl, according to a statement from Jonathan Lucas, the chief medical examiner for the coroner's office. In a message posted on Facebook, Petty's wife and daughter confirmed he was taking a mix of drugs to treat health issues. "Unfortunately Tom's body suffered from many serious ailments including emphysema, knee problems and most significantly a fractured hip," his wife, Dana, and daughter, Adria Petty, said. . . . I'd say most significantly drug addiction.
Whether addiction or not, it was *prescription* drugs that were involved. Maybe they should be outlawed. Regardless, I like Tom Petty. Made a number of good songs.
For Tom Petty's family to declare "accidental," is a complete turn-about of personal responsibility. He knew and his family knew the risks of the narcotics he took; and perhaps it was on a daily basis. Totally disagree with you about your attempt of product differentiation concerning "prescription" vs. non-prescription narcotics. The signature of responsibility is the individual, his or herself.
Maybe they should be outlawed. Wouldn't that be bad for the Drug Lords stock portfolios? Yeah. They got up and crawled down his throat. Accidentally.
If you read the article, his hip problem had progressed to a very painful full break. Apparently, he was trying to kill the intense pain. This isn't a terribly unusual story of overdosing with legal meds due to intense pain. I feel kinda sorry for him. Clearly, his body was just falling apart in a number of ways.

Prescription drugs allow the patient to leave the hospital and medicate at home. This is good for everyone. If some abuse this convenience, I'm certainly not going to blame the drug or the drug companies. Hell, they make the same amount of money no matter where the drug is consumed.
Well, we make an exception for cannabis since it cures cancer and blindness and warts and stuff.
There is nothing in the claim it was "accidental" that denies responsibility. They likely did know the risks, and just as likely accept that responsibility and blame no one. I suspect they said it was "accidental" as opposed to "intentional", as in suicide. They are simply saying it was not a suicide. It was instead, "accidental". We do indeed agree. You catch my point perfectly. I casted it at white to make that exact point.
We've (well not me) have already made an exception for cannabis. It's illegal and demonized with all the fury of a Catholic Bishop firing up warriors during the crusades. Cannabis is "evil", right? Satan planted it on the 8th day of creation?
I don't give a shit if the narcotics were prescribed by a medically authorized physician or the local street corner dealer. The personal responsibility for taking the shit falls on Tom Petty. And LQQKY here: he dead man acting irresponsibly to himself.
Our society will get along just fine without "medical" marijuana, and we certainly don't need yet another legal recreational drug. If you think the pushback on marijuana is intense, what about the promotion of the drug?
Well, if that floats yer boat, have at it. I have a little more sympathy for people suffering general failure and intense pain day-to-day. Sometimes their judgment is impaired by taking these painkillers and other drugs. And lots of people die everyday from overdoses very similar to this one.
Then it isn't OUR society. It is a goddamned HELL-HOLE depriving people of their rights, liberties, freedoms and genuine dignity to perform responsible actions for themselves, family, friends and the community at large.
A little more sympathy? Next you will advocating the US Government to extract my hard earned dollars in the form of "voluntary contributions" towards the same aim. It is called socialism that you advocate. You have no sympathy for those that work hard, earnestly and diligently towards ideal efforts in life that pursue objectives that benefit just about everyone. And, yeah ... That is too broad because it implies suicide. Many people "kill themselves" unintentionally due to bad decisions. That doesn't mean the committed suicide. How many of us "kill ourselves" by not going to see a doctor when we suspect something is wrong,and decide to just "put it off for a couple of days to see if it gets better"? In the entire history of the world,the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.
