Title: Police Track Down People Who Made “Offensive” Facebook Comments About Islam

Woe be unto free speech in Britain…or anywhere else where liberals think that it is of more benefit to society that Muslims be protected from criticism than that we have a free exchange of ideas in our political debates. According to ChronicleLive and Breitbart News, police in Northumbria, Britain are in the middle on an investigation that has them tracking down social media users who made “offensive” comments about Muslims on the internet. This is of course one of the greatest sins you can commit in a tolerant, open society like Europe, and police aren’t playing around when it comes to punishing those responsible for these “potentially criminal” posts.

The investigation opened when police found comments on their Facebook page in response to article chronicling the recent Operation Shelter scandal. This scandal involved Muslim men from Newcastle grooming young white British girls for sex slavery, and it attracted the kind of less-than-tolerant comments you might expect. After someone complained about the comments – some of which (the horror!) noted the race and religion of the 18 men convicted of the crimes – police began tracking down the people responsible for the posts.

“As a result of a complaint, we can confirm we looked into a number of comments posted on the force’s Facebook page,” said a spokesperson for the police. “Following an investigation, which has now concluded, we spoke to two males as voluntary attenders and visited a further four people in their homes, and provided them with words of advice. All expressed their remorse and stated that the intention of their comments was not to cause concern or to be offensive and have acknowledged the words of advice provided.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people using social media that they should do so responsibly and ensure they do not post anything which could be considered offensive,” the spokesperson concluded.

While we’re encouraged by the fact that Northumbria police did not actually arrest and charge any of the commenters with a crime, the fact that they would even devote resources to this nonsense is a huge step in the wrong direction. Far be it from us to tell British authorities how to run their country, but if you can’t make some basic observations about the nature of Islam when Muslims are selling young British girls into sexual slavery…well, something is a little off-kilter, don’t ya think?

Thanks to the First Amendment, we don’t have to worry about this sort of thought policing coming to our shores, but you’d better damn believe the left would bring it here if they could.

The sun has set on the British Empire. It doesn't matter whether the fairy Prince Phillip and his ugly 'wife' are kink and queenie.

Muslims practice discrimination against women and form of slavery.

They cut their (girls)genitals. They hate pigs for what reason I do not know, (it is one of GODS creatures who they profess to pray to)

Muslims want to kill and destroy anyone and anything that does not fit their way of thinking. THEN THEY SLITHER INTO THE UNITED STATES WHERE MOST CITIZENS ARE HAPPY WITH WHAT WE ARE AND THEY FORCEFULLY TRY TO CHANGE US.(wITH HELP FROM THEIR EVIL DEMOCRAT-COMMUNIST ALLIES.

They screwed up their own shithole and instead of fixing it so they come here and try to create the shithole they're familiar with.

I THINK NOT.

We got off our back sides and, thanks to President Trump, enabled this country to not let low life's come in and take it away from us thereby creating an Islamic-Democrat-Communist nation!!!!!

Woe be unto free speech in Britain

The British have never had Free Speech. The lack of Free Speech is one of the reasons we revolted and left them.

Only America has ever had a real right of free speech. So often Americans don't appreciate just what that means.

Only America has ever had a real right of free speech.

Ironically enough,Russians now have a Constitutional RIGHT to free speech, and to even own firearms.

This was done right after Yeltsin took over and they needed a new Constitution for the country after the collapse of the USSR.

Now you know why so many US lefties suddenly started hating Russia. It was like their spouse was suddenly cheating on them.

Funny you mention him and his sudden change of outlook. Over at AoS, I think, I recently read a reminder of when Yeltsin lost faith in the Soviet system and knew it had utterly failed.

How A Supermarket Visit Brought Down The Soviet Union

Many point to the fact that the Soviet Union collapse occurred as the Soviets were baited into trying to compete with the defense build-up instituted by Ronald Reagan.

The Soviets just did not have the financial resources to match the United States in defense spending while also tending to the needs of its citizenry. The Soviets spent money on guns rather than butter. Something had to give and the Soviet people were the ones that suffered.

However, a little known visit to a suburban Houston supermarket in 1989 by Boris Yeltsin appears to have been the catalyst that ended up bringing down the Soviet Union.

Yeltsin visited the Johnson Space Center in Houston in September, 1989 to tour mission control and to view a model of the planned International Space Station.

After visiting the Space Center, Yeltsin made an unplanned stop at a local Randall's grocery store that was close by before heading to the airport.

That visit changed the course of history.

At the time, Yeltsin was a newly elected member of the Soviet Parliament and the Supreme Soviet and had been a key ally of the General Secretary of the Communist Party Mikhail Gorbachev, who was initiating reforms but the pace of which was too slow for Yeltsin.

Houston Chronicle reporter Stephanie Asin was with Yeltsin on the visit to the grocery store that day.
Yeltsin, then 58, “roamed the aisles of Randall’s nodding his head in amazement,” wrote Asin. He told his fellow Russians in his entourage that if their people, who often must wait in line for most goods, saw the conditions of U.S. supermarkets, “there would be a revolution.”

“Even the Politburo doesn’t have this choice. Not even Mr. Gorbachev,” he said.

The fact that stores like these were on nearly every street corner in America amazed him. They even offered free cheese samples. According to Asin, Yeltsin didn’t leave empty-handed, as he was given a small bag of goodies to enjoy on his trip.
This is a picture of Yeltsin touring the grocery store.

This Houston Chronicle story from 2014 fills in the rest of the story.
About a year after the Russian leader left office, a Yeltsin biographer later wrote that on the plane ride to Yeltsin’s next destination, Miami, he was despondent. He couldn’t stop thinking about the plentiful food at the grocery store and what his countrymen had to subsist on in Russia.

In Yeltsin’s own autobiography, he wrote about the experience at Randall’s, which shattered his view of communism, according to pundits. Two years later, he left the Communist Party and began making reforms to turn the economic tide in Russia.

“When I saw those shelves crammed with hundreds, thousands of cans, cartons and goods of every possible sort, for the first time I felt quite frankly sick with despair for the Soviet people,” Yeltsin wrote. “That such a potentially super-rich country as ours has been brought to a state of such poverty! It is terrible to think of it.”
To give you some perspective on what was available in the Soviet Union at that time, here is a picture of a Russian store from that era.

An aide to Yeltsin later reported that in that visit to the grocery store in Houston “the last vestige of Bolshevism collapsed” inside his boss.

Two years later Yeltsin was elected to the newly created office of President of the Russian Federation after the collapse of the Soviet Union with Gorbachev.

Yeltsin immediately began dismantling the socialist economic system and introducing capitalism to the Russians. In the process he attempted to convert the world's largest command economy into a free-market one.

The results of that transition were rocky in large part to cronyism in the break-up of many of the large state-owned businesses. In the process, many Russian oligarchs were created and Yeltsin eventually resigned his office in 1999 haunted by charges of corruption and incompetence.

His successor?

Vladimir Putin.

The falling price of oil has put a similar squeeze on Putin and the Russians today. Putin has been popular with the Russian people based on his macho style and nationalistic bombast. However, potential trouble lurks for Putin because of the Russian economy.

The Russian consumer is being squeezed with annual inflation of almost 20% and the average Russian spends about 50% of their income on food.

By comparison, the average American spends only 8% of income on groceries.

Will groceries once again determine the future of Russia?

I like to think that it was the free cheese samples that finally killed Lenin's evil dream.     : )

Interesting when you look back for history's turning points. That was the real beginning of the end for Soviet communism.

My first trip to Russia was shortly after the collapse of the USSR,and you wouldn't believe the crap I saw. They didn't have supermarkets. What they had was a fish store,a bread store,a beef store, etc, etc, etc. In other words, you had to shop at and stand in line at each store to buy groceries for a typical dinner. When you went in the stores, they had cardboard photos of the food for sale. You pointed at what you wanted, and someone brought it up and sat it on the counter. YOU didn't do ANY shopping. The clerks behind the counter filled your orders, took your money, and bagged your groceries. If your order included fruit and you just happen to get bruised or spoiled fruit, tough titty. "You ordered fruit and you got fruit,go away or I call policeman!"

If a lightbulb burned out,you took the bad lightbulb to the lightbulb store after you got off work and were then allowed to buy an exact replacement. No old light bulb,no new lightbulb.

Also, the meat stores had no refrigeration. I was there in the summer, and what they had were big dumpsters they threw the rotten unsold meat into at the end of the day,and refilled them with freshly slaughtered meat the next day that would go rotten and be thrown away if not sold.

The Russian cats were HUGE fans of those dumpsters. BTW,Russians REALLY love cats. They didn't have exterminators, but they did have cats, and the cats caught the mice and sometimes the roaches. There was even a stray cat that "lived" in the hotel I stayed at when he wanted. I have seen him come up the sidewalk, meow at the doorman, and the doorman smile at him, call him by name, and open the door and let him in. He would walk right through the dining room were people were eating on his way to the kitchen, and nobody cared. Most spoke to him and smiled.

EVERYTHING was labor intensive because it was the "Workers Paradise",and every worker had to have a job. A popular joke with the Russians I met was "we pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us."

And this was in Moscow. You can imagine what it was like in the regional cities that were smaller.

BTW,even in Moscow it was common for 2,or even 3 families to share an apartment with one kitchen and one bathroom. People had no privacy whatsoever, and that was a part of the master plan. People with no privacy that share living space with other families that get rewarded for informing on them for anti-social thinking don't do much conspiring. One result of this was that EVERY Russian I met and talked with warned me to "Never trust a Russian!",and were as serious as a heart attack about it,too.

One of my Russian friends told me his father was a KGB Major so they didn't have to share an apartment with another family, but that his father had his own home phone bugged to make sure no one in his family was saying or planning anything anti-Soviet,and that he did it to protect the rest of the family. He would arrest the family member that put the others at risk if necessary in order to make the rest of the family safe. Of course, like most Russians, they only had 2 children due to the lack of privacy and living space.

The amazing thing is that the USSR lasted as long as it did,not that it collapsed under it's own weight.

And the western left has hated Russia ever since.
