Woe be unto free speech in Britain…or anywhere else where liberals think that it is of more benefit to society that Muslims be protected from criticism than that we have a free exchange of ideas in our political debates. According to ChronicleLive and Breitbart News, police in Northumbria, Britain are in the middle on an investigation that has them tracking down social media users who made “offensive” comments about Muslims on the internet. This is of course one of the greatest sins you can commit in a tolerant, open society like Europe, and police aren’t playing around when it comes to punishing those responsible for these “potentially criminal” posts.

The investigation opened when police found comments on their Facebook page in response to article chronicling the recent Operation Shelter scandal. This scandal involved Muslim men from Newcastle grooming young white British girls for sex slavery, and it attracted the kind of less-than-tolerant comments you might expect. After someone complained about the comments – some of which (the horror!) noted the race and religion of the 18 men convicted of the crimes – police began tracking down the people responsible for the posts.

“As a result of a complaint, we can confirm we looked into a number of comments posted on the force’s Facebook page,” said a spokesperson for the police. “Following an investigation, which has now concluded, we spoke to two males as voluntary attenders and visited a further four people in their homes, and provided them with words of advice. All expressed their remorse and stated that the intention of their comments was not to cause concern or to be offensive and have acknowledged the words of advice provided.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people using social media that they should do so responsibly and ensure they do not post anything which could be considered offensive,” the spokesperson concluded.

While we’re encouraged by the fact that Northumbria police did not actually arrest and charge any of the commenters with a crime, the fact that they would even devote resources to this nonsense is a huge step in the wrong direction. Far be it from us to tell British authorities how to run their country, but if you can’t make some basic observations about the nature of Islam when Muslims are selling young British girls into sexual slavery…well, something is a little off-kilter, don’t ya think?

Thanks to the First Amendment, we don’t have to worry about this sort of thought policing coming to our shores, but you’d better damn believe the left would bring it here if they could.

The sun has set on the British Empire. It doesn't matter whether the fairy Prince Phillip and his ugly 'wife' are kink and queenie.

Muslims practice discrimination against women and form of slavery.

They cut their (girls)genitals. They hate pigs for what reason I do not know, (it is one of GODS creatures who they profess to pray to)

Muslims want to kill and destroy anyone and anything that does not fit their way of thinking. THEN THEY SLITHER INTO THE UNITED STATES WHERE MOST CITIZENS ARE HAPPY WITH WHAT WE ARE AND THEY FORCEFULLY TRY TO CHANGE US.(wITH HELP FROM THEIR EVIL DEMOCRAT-COMMUNIST ALLIES.

They screwed up their own shithole and instead of fixing it so they come here and try to create the shithole they're familiar with.

I THINK NOT.

We got off our back sides and, thanks to President Trump, enabled this country to not let low life's come in and take it away from us thereby creating an Islamic-Democrat-Communist nation!!!!!

Pat Condell is very brave. I'm not sure why he hasn't been arrested yet but I'm expecting the Brits to stifle him in court.

Here's a video he did on this on 11/30/17.

Only America has ever had a real right of free speech.

Ironically enough,Russians now have a Constitutional RIGHT to free speech, and to even own firearms.

This was done right after Yeltsin took over and they needed a new Constitution for the country after the collapse of the USSR.

Now you know why so many US lefties suddenly started hating Russia. It was like their spouse was suddenly cheating on them.

Funny you mention him and his sudden change of outlook. Over at AoS, I think, I recently read a reminder of when Yeltsin lost faith in the Soviet system and knew it had utterly failed.

How A Supermarket Visit Brought Down The Soviet Union

Many point to the fact that the Soviet Union collapse occurred as the Soviets were baited into trying to compete with the defense build-up instituted by Ronald Reagan.

The Soviets just did not have the financial resources to match the United States in defense spending while also tending to the needs of its citizenry. The Soviets spent money on guns rather than butter. Something had to give and the Soviet people were the ones that suffered.

However, a little known visit to a suburban Houston supermarket in 1989 by Boris Yeltsin appears to have been the catalyst that ended up bringing down the Soviet Union.

Yeltsin visited the Johnson Space Center in Houston in September, 1989 to tour mission control and to view a model of the planned International Space Station.

After visiting the Space Center, Yeltsin made an unplanned stop at a local Randall's grocery store that was close by before heading to the airport.

That visit changed the course of history.

At the time, Yeltsin was a newly elected member of the Soviet Parliament and the Supreme Soviet and had been a key ally of the General Secretary of the Communist Party Mikhail Gorbachev, who was initiating reforms but the pace of which was too slow for Yeltsin.

Houston Chronicle reporter Stephanie Asin was with Yeltsin on the visit to the grocery store that day.
Yeltsin, then 58, “roamed the aisles of Randall’s nodding his head in amazement,” wrote Asin. He told his fellow Russians in his entourage that if their people, who often must wait in line for most goods, saw the conditions of U.S. supermarkets, “there would be a revolution.”

“Even the Politburo doesn’t have this choice. Not even Mr. Gorbachev,” he said.

The fact that stores like these were on nearly every street corner in America amazed him. They even offered free cheese samples. According to Asin, Yeltsin didn’t leave empty-handed, as he was given a small bag of goodies to enjoy on his trip.
This is a picture of Yeltsin touring the grocery store.

This Houston Chronicle story from 2014 fills in the rest of the story.
About a year after the Russian leader left office, a Yeltsin biographer later wrote that on the plane ride to Yeltsin’s next destination, Miami, he was despondent. He couldn’t stop thinking about the plentiful food at the grocery store and what his countrymen had to subsist on in Russia.

In Yeltsin’s own autobiography, he wrote about the experience at Randall’s, which shattered his view of communism, according to pundits. Two years later, he left the Communist Party and began making reforms to turn the economic tide in Russia.

“When I saw those shelves crammed with hundreds, thousands of cans, cartons and goods of every possible sort, for the first time I felt quite frankly sick with despair for the Soviet people,” Yeltsin wrote. “That such a potentially super-rich country as ours has been brought to a state of such poverty! It is terrible to think of it.”
To give you some perspective on what was available in the Soviet Union at that time, here is a picture of a Russian store from that era.

An aide to Yeltsin later reported that in that visit to the grocery store in Houston “the last vestige of Bolshevism collapsed” inside his boss.

Two years later Yeltsin was elected to the newly created office of President of the Russian Federation after the collapse of the Soviet Union with Gorbachev.

Yeltsin immediately began dismantling the socialist economic system and introducing capitalism to the Russians. In the process he attempted to convert the world's largest command economy into a free-market one.

The results of that transition were rocky in large part to cronyism in the break-up of many of the large state-owned businesses. In the process, many Russian oligarchs were created and Yeltsin eventually resigned his office in 1999 haunted by charges of corruption and incompetence.

His successor?

Vladimir Putin.

The falling price of oil has put a similar squeeze on Putin and the Russians today. Putin has been popular with the Russian people based on his macho style and nationalistic bombast. However, potential trouble lurks for Putin because of the Russian economy.

The Russian consumer is being squeezed with annual inflation of almost 20% and the average Russian spends about 50% of their income on food.

By comparison, the average American spends only 8% of income on groceries.

Will groceries once again determine the future of Russia?

I like to think that it was the free cheese samples that finally killed Lenin's evil dream.     : )

Interesting when you look back for history's turning points. That was the real beginning of the end for Soviet communism.

Yeltsin immediately began dismantling the socialist economic system and introducing capitalism to the Russians. In the process he attempted to convert the world's largest command economy into a free-market one.

My first trip to Russia was shortly after the collapse of the USSR,and you wouldn't believe the crap I saw. They didn't have supermarkets. What they had was a fish store,a bread store,a beef store, etc, etc, etc. In other words, you had to shop at and stand in line at each store to buy groceries for a typical dinner. When you went in the stores, they had cardboard photos of the food for sale. You pointed at what you wanted, and someone brought it up and sat it on the counter. YOU didn't do ANY shopping. The clerks behind the counter filled your orders, took your money, and bagged your groceries. If your order included fruit and you just happen to get bruised or spoiled fruit, tough titty. "You ordered fruit and you got fruit,go away or I call policeman!"

If a lightbulb burned out,you took the bad lightbulb to the lightbulb store after you got off work and were then allowed to buy an exact replacement. No old light bulb,no new lightbulb.

Also, the meat stores had no refrigeration. I was there in the summer, and what they had were big dumpsters they threw the rotten unsold meat into at the end of the day,and refilled them with freshly slaughtered meat the next day that would go rotten and be thrown away if not sold.

The Russian cats were HUGE fans of those dumpsters. BTW,Russians REALLY love cats. They didn't have exterminators, but they did have cats, and the cats caught the mice and sometimes the roaches. There was even a stray cat that "lived" in the hotel I stayed at when he wanted. I have seen him come up the sidewalk, meow at the doorman, and the doorman smile at him, call him by name, and open the door and let him in. He would walk right through the dining room were people were eating on his way to the kitchen, and nobody cared. Most spoke to him and smiled.

EVERYTHING was labor intensive because it was the "Workers Paradise",and every worker had to have a job. A popular joke with the Russians I met was "we pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us."

And this was in Moscow. You can imagine what it was like in the regional cities that were smaller.

BTW,even in Moscow it was common for 2,or even 3 families to share an apartment with one kitchen and one bathroom. People had no privacy whatsoever, and that was a part of the master plan. People with no privacy that share living space with other families that get rewarded for informing on them for anti-social thinking don't do much conspiring. One result of this was that EVERY Russian I met and talked with warned me to "Never trust a Russian!",and were as serious as a heart attack about it,too.

One of my Russian friends told me his father was a KGB Major so they didn't have to share an apartment with another family, but that his father had his own home phone bugged to make sure no one in his family was saying or planning anything anti-Soviet,and that he did it to protect the rest of the family. He would arrest the family member that put the others at risk if necessary in order to make the rest of the family safe. Of course, like most Russians, they only had 2 children due to the lack of privacy and living space.

The amazing thing is that the USSR lasted as long as it did,not that it collapsed under it's own weight.

And the western left has hated Russia ever since.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.

I like the way you format your posts, they are much easier to read and to follow.

I like formatted reading, won't read stuff that looks too crude. I use macros to automate some of this stuff. Doing the tweets and those gray blockquotes takes some time. Some articles that have a half-dozen tweets in them, I just start thinking no one will read them so I don't even bother.

An example of a macro I use with Typinator, a macro program, on the Mac, this is one I made called ">>grayquote" because when I type that, it inserts this text and replaces {clip} with whatever text was last copied to my clipboard:

< table frame=lhs cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" hspace=32 vspace=8>< tbody>< tr>< td bgcolor=#e8e8e8>< font face="Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">{clip}< /font>< /td>< /tr>< /tbody>< /table>

I can adjust width, background color, border on/off, etc. without much fuss. If you Inspect my posts, you'll see I do this over and over. Mostly just to try to mimic the presentation styles used on popular news websites. But I do have the mentality of a file clerk and kinda crave organized text.

LF really could use some modernization. It could be easier to make attractive articles. All this table-based stuff is so 20th century...

Until then, getting a decent macro program does help a lot.

When it comes to macro programs, you have two kinds. In one, you have a macro recorder which can play back mouse moves/clicks and keyboard input. In the other, the kind I use, you just type key phrases that trigger the insertion of text, optionally positioning the cursor (inside the inserted text) and/or inserting text and further inserting the contents of the system clipboard. That is what my util, Typinator on the Mac, does. Linux undoubtedly has some similar free utils, Windows may have some available too.

So I'll give some examples of my defined macros that I use a lot posting here and at other forums. These are macro definitions exported directly from Typinator. If you happened to have a Mac and had Typinator, you could import them directly and use them exactly as I do.

Each line is one macro. You type the command and it inserts the text. If the macro includes the word {clip}, it will insert whatever text is on the system clipboard and replace the word {clip} with the clipboard contents. The 'Backslash-n' entries you see in the file are newline characters and those are also inserted into the text so you can insert multi-line text from the clipboard. This is handy.

So if I want a smiley, I just type >>smile and it inserts a couple of spaces and then the smiley like this:     : )

If I post an article, I'll clean it up first (using Inspector) and copy the HTML source to the system clipboard. Then I'll insert the entire thing into the article textbox using >>table. You probably notice that almost all my articles are in a strict 720pixel-wide format. It is that same macro, >>table, that I use over and over. You can easily modify the bgcolor on the TD tags if you like a colored background for instance. Or change 'border=1' to put a box around the text. Or use the LHS property to place a line to the left, which I use for gray quote boxes (similar to the quote styles of both HotAir and AoS among others).

You might look at your Windows control panel. It has a text insertion utility built-in. It doesn't allow the insertion of the clipboard AFAIK. But you could work around that.

You could adapt it to Win7/Win8/Win10 text macros (in the control panel) just using two command strings instead of one the way that I do with my Typinator. Here's how you would define macros on Windows to accomplish much the same.

Then you could copy some text or HTML (like an article you want to post) to your clipboard and then type "<>table" to close the table (by inserting some < /TABLE stuff). BAM, you've got a sweetly formatted little table that you can modify as you like. Mine have changed a bit over time.

I do a lot of cutting to the clipboard, then inserting with HTML added.

And now you know the extent of my Deep Macro Dark Magic. LOL

Yeah, I do know it's pathetic.

[The above list of macros will expire from PasteBin in a week.]

Fascinating overview of your detailed experience just after the collapse of the USSR. Your recall is amazing...

I liked this story because it brings to mind a major failure of Soviet propaganda back in the Seventies.

The Soviets sent a film team into America's black ghettos to deplore their poverty and crime. In the course of the film, it was revealed that all these desperately poor blacks in the ghettos had color TVs with many that had VCRs and microwave ovens.

They showed this propaganda film in color in Soviet theaters. All the audiences could notice was that even the poorest people in America, downtrodden by capitalism, had color TVs and other luxuries that were almost impossible to obtain in the Soviet Union, even by the Politburo members.

...If they [the Brits] aren't smart enough to draft a free speech protection... then fuck them. I don't want to hear about their "speech rights" being violated on an American blog. Those progressive libtards get what they deserve.

In the context of the prog libtards sowing what they've reaped, you're absolutely right.

THE problem as I see it is as usual: Politicians are elected to do the RIGHT thing but do the WRONG thing. Whether in the UK or US.

Should the US demos swing just a little bit, our country could go in the direction. About 40-45% of the Brits are like us and HATE that they've been hijacked by their suicidal gubmint. The 2A is the only thing preserving what liberty still we have.

We were perilously close to our own Progs destroying us if Hitlery had won. Still are. Our supposed side -- the GOP -- stood by, watched and even helped as 0bama as his Scorched-America policies almost crushed us. We're still picking up the tab for his mess.

Excellent anecdote of Soviet propaganda backfiring...

Had to KILL the Ruskie audiences to see America's "most unfortunate" -- well-fed fat black "poor" people leisurely munching on popcorn watching color tee-bees that took years to obtain.

The same irony is still lost on those same "poor" fat "African-Americans" who do exactly the same, sitting on their azzes and living like kings and queens FOR FREE, complaining about Whitey's "unfair" America.

They simply have no idea, due to poor education, of how blessed they are to live in America, more than any other place on earth.

But we all do take America for granted, to some extent. The extensive civil liberties, the availability of goods, the cheap-ish food, well, the list is quite long.

There is no other country where it is so good to be poor as in America.

The proverbial nail has been hit squarely on the head.

Thanks Homes...

Have you noticed how the Homofascist Army have been at the forefront of power (whether in gubmint, at the judicial level, corporate level, controlling the cultural message in power in the Media or "entertainment" venues?)

Lost in the Hollywood/Weinstein brouhaha of "sexual" harassment and exploitation has been Hollywood's constant dogged Homosexual/Pedophile problem (which still gets ZERO investigation and traction for some odd reason.)

No one will publicly note that Homofascists-in-Power are behind the scenes now largely controlling the West's suicidal agenda and policies (even openly now at the Vatican!), busy chiseling away at ours and European culture, corrupting and undermining all that is good. And THAT means, chiseling away any an all vestiges of our Christian heritage and traditions.

And again, NO ONE in the MSM will note, mention or suggest that Homos-in-Charge are so desperately intent in erasing God and Christianity from America (as well as Western Civ), they would rather invite Islam into America.

There is NOTHING worst than fascist Progressivism led by self-loathing, sadomasochistic homosexuals. THEY are the Enemy, THE Devil Within.

Yup...Total obliviousness.

They've been conditioned and taught from the cradle throughout public school's "education" in the hood to first and foremost blame Whitey....for having a car (but NOT a Bentley); For having Dominoes pizza (instead of gourmet); For living in a dirty small apt (instead of a mansion like Jay-Z), and for not being able to afford the 60" flat screen (instead of the 40".)

But we all do take America for granted, to some extent. The extensive civil liberties, the availability of goods, the cheap-ish food, well, the list is quite long.

You're absolutely right; We are ALL spoiled and taking EVERYTHING for granted. Material and Freedoms. 98% of Americans lack for no affordable food. OR free food.

There is no other country where it is so good to be poor as in America.

And still no one concedes this. Our most poor live like royalty (relative to most African and Asian nations, and relative to 95% of all "civilization", circa pre-1950.)

As an aside, have you ever read comments at forums or at places like youtube comments?

Example:

Poster #1: "Great song! 1968 music was so free and so happy."
Poster #2: "Not with people dying all over the world, Vietnam, the riots in Chicago, and the poverty."

People are now indoctrinated/trained/conditioned by Leftists like hamsters to reek of negativity, guilt and victimhood, and to dwell on the dark side of everything.

These same people are conditioned to complain (probably in Portland, Seattle or CA):

"My chocolate is too sweet (some slave picked the cocoa bean); My car too shiny (built from slave wages); my food is too tasty...but some slave had to fish it out of the water and MURDER the poor lobster."

They are many, many bad things, but they aren't racists.

They ARE "tribalists" though. If you aren't a member of the tribe and form of Islam the tribe follows, you have no right to live from their POV.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.

Well, bad news gets more attention than good news and puppy videos. The same has always been true in the newspaper market and on radio/TV news shows.

And the Left has evolved to a competitive circus of professional Unappeasables.

No matter what you gave them, they would reflexively demand more.
