Last night, smoke came pouring out from it. I mean billowing clouds of smoke. We quickly unplugged and disconnected it. I never saw that even from those old tube TVs. This guy had it happen once, ordered some new capacitors and replaced them, then videoed it when he plugged it back in. The magic smoke escaped in less than a minute. Unplug everything if you want to be safe. And be sure your wiring is good. Or you could just buy a bit of insurance to cover any losses. It's pretty cheap. From what I read, it was due to the AC polarity being wrong. (Neutral & hot wires on the AC plug reversed). Many appliances don't care, and many that do care still seem to work fine.
