A homeless guy who was considered a “hero” of the Manchester bombing in England now admitted to stealing from dead, wounded people at court Wednesday. Chris Parker, 33, a homeless man who helped victims during the Manchester bombing attack in May 2017, including cradling a dying woman, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and fraud Wednesday in court. Parker stole items belonging to the victims, reported The Guardian. CCTV footage captured Parker with a rucksack circling the victims who were lying in pools of blood. The footage shows him looking for items to steal. Parker stole a purse from Pauline Healey, who was injured from the terrorist attack and then used her credit card at McDonald’s. He also stole a mobile phone from an unnamed teenage girl during the attack. Parker also used his own mobile phone to try to capture images to sell to the media. Following the bombing that killed 22 people in an arena following an Ariana Grande concert, Parker was lauded by the media for his heroic actions. “It knocked me to the floor and then I got up and instead of running away, my gut instinct was to run back and try and help,” Parker told the media in regards to his decision to help victims. His words caused a media sensation with a GoFundMe campaign described as “an effort to help one of our most vulnerable in society who showed great selflessness and courage.” The campaign raised approximately $71,063 dollars. He was expected at court Tuesday, but did not show up and was instead found hiding in a loft in Halifax. The judge said that he can expect a prison sentence. Parker will be sentenced on Jan. 30.
