Title: Justice Dept. Prosecutes [black] Texas Men For Hate Crime, Sends Him To Jail For 15 Years

Nigel Garrett, 21, was given a 15 years prison sentence Wednesday for assaulting a gay man, after the Department of Justice deemed the action a “hate crime.” Garrett admitted to acting with two accomplices to ambush a homosexual man they met on the gay social media dating site Grindr, according to a press release from the DOJ. Garrett, Anthony Shelton, and Chancler Encalade entered the victims home with a firearm, bound him with tape and began assaulting him. They made “derogatory statements to the victim for being gay,” and stole his car, the press release states. A grand jury had previously handed down an eighteen-count superseding indictment, against these three men and Cameron Ajiduah. The charges included were for hate crimes, kidnappings, and carjacking. They were also charged with “conspiring to cause bodily injury because of the victims’ sexual orientation” during four separate home invasions in Plano, Frisco, and Aubrey, Texas, from Jan. 17 to Feb. 7, 2017, according to the DOJ. “Hate crimes are an attack on a fundamental principle of the United States to be free from fear of violence because of your sexual orientation, gender identity, race, color, religion, or national origin,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore of the Civil Rights Division. “The Department of Justice is committed to using every tool at its disposal to combat this type of violence.” Shelton, Encalade, and Ajiduah plead guilty to the hate crime charges and are awaiting sentencing. “Violence, in any form, is an affront to the American principles of freedom and safety that our communities are entitled to,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston. “The Department of Justice has made prosecution of violent crime a priority. The Eastern District of Texas, in prosecuting this case and others like it, intends to demonstrate that this priority is something more than just a slogan.” Poster Comment: The perps: Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is the first time any black man has been convicted of any hate crime. For years, the Left and libmedia outlets and many courts seemed to insist it was intrinsically impossible for any black man to commit a hate crime against whites. It seems Sessions applied a hate crime prosecution without regard to the offenders' appearance.

Where in this country is the temperature 79 degrees F? Not fake. I had several articles to choose from. I actually posted from the DailyCaller article because it had the outcome but not the photo I wanted. The CBS photo and the article link I posted was from when they were indicted. So the weather was warmer then. Since my point was to demonstrate that, finally, black men could actually be convicted of a hate crime, I wanted to include the photo that identified the perps. And I grabbed a copy of that one from the DDG photo cache, making it anonymous and untraceable (IOW, Google and CBS don't know that you viewed that photo here at LF). I like to anonymize these things if I can when I post them. So: not #FakeNews at all.
You're silly. Very few homos voted for him or ever vote Republican or conservative on any issue.
It's the first time *I* ever heard of it happening. Almost makes you wonder if de homies ever heard the term "Unintended Consequences",doesn't it? I'm betting they all heard of the expression "What goes around,comes around",though. Even if they thought it would never apply to them. In the entire history of the world,the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.
Always be wary of an experienced federal prosecutor and their ability to turn the law to new purposes and secure convictions. This is so totally typical of Sessions as a prosecutor. He had them targeting that class of victims, multiple times in multiple towns, a real M.O. I don't think the Left ever realized that these kinds of laws could be used to multiple the prison time of anyone who used racial or sexual epithets during a crime. I expect this case was a wakeup call to them.
But it was against a gay male. When there's a prosecution of someone for a hate crime against a white person, then we'll have something to mark on the calendar.
Well, you mean when there's a hate crime against a straight white male (or female) and it is prosecuted as such. Like that case in Chicago with the disabled white teen boy that was abused by little thugs for days. Sessions will be waiting for another case like that to set precedent with, I think. Sessions knows that sympathetic victims do make it easier to expand the scope of precedent.

"Hate crime" is legal nonsense. What is a "love crime" or "indifference crime"? Our retired cops are in trouble. On one hand they want to punish the black perpetrators, on the other the victim is a homosexual. Tough choice, they do not want to come out of closet.
It always was nonsense. If Sessions rams it up their arses sideways as he's doing in this case, maybe the Left will finally recognize that maybe that whole "hate crimes" virtue-signalling fad was just a bad idea to begin with.
Even so, Fred showed some critical thinking by recognizing that the photo of the perps was not from today's story about the first conviction in the case.
Yea. Oh absolutely. Fred is well known, but seldom recognized, for his “critical thinking” ability. His searching out evidence, closely examining assumptions and reasoning, analyzing basic concepts, and tracing out implications not only of what is said but of what is done as well is more of what we need here on LF.
