BOSTON - April 20, 1775 National Guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw. Speaking after the clash Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement. Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group's organizers as "criminals," issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order. The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons. Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms. One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily." Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government's plans. During a tense standoff in Lexington's town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists. Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units. Colonel Smith, finding his forces overmatched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat. Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops. Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as "ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

I'm not so sure Robert. The left has managed to worm their way into good positions, due to the ignorance of the American voters. But they typically are only real good at running their mouths. A few years ago they bought 2,400 light tanks and armored personnel carriers and stationed them at strategic spots through the lower 48 states. In the event of rebellion it's not going to be a matter of one man against another with a musket as it was years ago. It's going to be pockets of resistance converged upon and systematically wiped out by high tech equipment. Meanwhile the media will describe it as a triumph of the rule of law and democracy.
Ah, they knew how to deal with unruly populations in those days, but they have the same problem as today, too many people have guns. Shouldn't be a problem now with a large, professional military

Yeah, maybe. But, sooner or later, they have to stop to perform maintenance; refuel; rearm; to eat; to sleep; and to take a dump and to pee. Those are vulnerable times ! The Russians learned those weaknesses in Afghanistan, and the German's learned them in Eastern & Western Europe. They were expensive lessons You have to think outside the box. That is outstanding. I have seen it before, but enjoyed seeing it again. I went to school with a couple guys, their mother was in the French underground. She talked about the Liberty pistols. She said if they did not have liberty pistol, they would use knives, piano wire, tools, what ever they could scrounge. I would like to acquire a Liberty pistol, as a historical piece. I seem to remember that there were Jews who fought, thinking of Warsaw, this kind of rhetoric is absolute bullshit, all an armed insurrection would have gotten them was a quicker death. The Jews did fight at Warsaw, killed a good number of Nazi's, and held up almost a division of German Waffen SS. Doing so, they enabled many JEWS to escape, and by so doing they escaped the gas chambers, and the ovens. The Jews that fought & died there at least enabled some to get away & live, and they died honorably, defending themselves & their families, instead of dieing like sheep. The Germans suffered over a thousand casualties in the first week of fighting alone. The Germans had to spend more time subduing the Warsaw Ghetto than they did conquering the entire nations of Poland or France. So you obviously would rather die in a ditch on your knees or in the gas chambers, than to die on your feet fighting to defend yourself & your family. you like name calling but in fact I am neither spineless or an idiot, Ok, some Jews went down fighting, their effort is to be applauded, but who is to say the Nazi attitude didn't harden as a result. You cannot compare an insurrection with two nations who just weren't prepared for the Nazi onslaught, the military of both those nations was outdated, even the mighty British could not stem the tide, same reason
