Title: America’s Longest-Serving Bomber Sets New Record For Most Smart Bombs Dropped On An Enemy

A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress, America’s longest-serving bomber, set a new record when it unleashed hell against terrorists on a combat mission in Afghanistan last month, according to the Department of Defense.

During an expanded strike mission, B-52 bombers dropped 19 Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) on the Taliban in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, Air Forces Central Command spokeswoman Capt. AnnMarie Annicelli told Military.com. The strategic bombers were targeting opium and heroin facilities to cripple the revenue stream.

The Air Force “used B-52s with their new conventional rotary launcher,” Air Force Brig. Gen. Lance Bunch, the director of NATO’s Resolute Support mission explained Tuesday. “Of note, it was the single most — largest number of precision munitions ever dropped from a B-52.”

Bunch revealed that the U.S. military now has the authority to take the fight to the enemy in a new way. Under the Trump administration, the military now has greater freedom and independence with regard to how it chooses to engage the enemy.

“The new strategy highlights that this is a new war,” he told reporters Tuesday. “The gloves are off. We’ve got now these authorities we need to be able to go and target the Taliban network … That is our new strategy going forward and it’s definitely been a game-changer and the Taliban is definitely feeling it.”

“All the areas where they thought they were safe and they are no longer so,” he said.

Since the start of this year, B-52 bombers have dropped around 1,500 unguided and guided munitions on enemy combatants, AFCENT told Military.com.

The fight in Afghanistan has raged for 16 years, and despite American efforts, the Taliban still has a tight hold on Afghanistan. A little less than half of Afghanistan’s districts are either controlled by the Taliban or contested, Reuters reported in October, citing a report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction. OK ... there is a way to analyze the situation within the political framework: Was there any benefit to the taxpayers? The answer is: no phucking way.

Yeah, there is. The USAF didn't spend multiple Billions of dollars to design and produce a replacement bomber that could only do the same things.

When you think about it,the USAF is pretty thrifty with taxpayer dollars. All these years later they are still flying C-130 cargo planes.

If it ain't broke, there is no reasons to spend billions to replace it.

BTW,if you want to claim there is no good reason for us to be dropping bombs in Afghanistan,I'm with ya on that one. What we NEED to be doing is killing off the international banking families that finance and profit from these wars, not the retarded goat rapists running around waving AK's. Remove the financing that buys their food, weapons, clothing, and pays them a living wage, and they will disappear and go back home.

Until we get serious about targeting and removing the money men from the equation, the war will continue to take lives everywhere.

Not exactly by choice. They have no great love for the B-52 or the Warthog.

When they complain about it, Congress can remind them that the Russkies are still flying their turboprop bomber fleet from the Fifties. So our B-52 jets look pretty good by comparison and can host quite a few new interchangeable weapons/sensor pods to upgrade their performance.

I saw an article about how the Afghan military are huge fans of the Warthog. Apparently it puts the fear of Allah into the Taliban. As they should. Those Warthogs are still a nasty piece of business with any ground target. Toward the end, the ISIS fighters in their fake caliphate would flee if they even heard a Warthog engine in the distance. It terrified them.

The B-52 is still slated for retirement around 2040. It's striking to realize that some of those birds will likely be flown by the great-grandsons of some of the original B-52 pilots from the late Fifties and the Sixties. There is some tradition of AF families who continue to fly the B-52s. That's a long time to keep those old birds in the air. Just think of the metal fatigue alone. Of course, those things have been rebuilt multiple times and most still in service have been substantially rebuilt over the last 50 years.

Ok,so maybe they aren't as stupid as I thought.

The "problem" with the Warthog is that in the eyes of SOME people,it just ain't "swoopy" or "sexy" enough. These people are MOSTLY career bureaucrats in the USAF,or congresscritters with districts that could benefit from the production of a new fighter.

Ask the soldiers and Marines on the ground what THEY think of them.
