Well, fires are nothing but slow-motion explosions, and explosions are nothing more than VERY fast moving fires.
While that can be true, it is certainly not necessarily true.
That was the original comment and my response. I didn't want to go beyond that.
The simplest example I can think about of a non combustion explosion is over inflating a tire till the point the tire explodes. I have heard of people liberally having their head taken off because of this.
Nitroglycerin is an example of a non-combustion chemical reaction causing an explosion. Nitro has very unstable chemical bonds, and when those bonds are released, it releases an enormous amount of energy. This could happen in the complete absence of oxygen.
A fire is normally considered to be the combustion of an organic material (i.e. a quick oxidation of of the organic material).

The tire explodes because of the heat created by the pressure put on the hydrogen in the oxygen. Hydrogen does not like being compressed, and WILL seek it's freedom to expand. X amount of space can only occupy y amount of volume before expansive things start to happen and loud noises are made.
Okay, I'm really impressed by your knowledge of chemical oxidation-reduction reactions and your knowledge of explosive ordinance devices. You make Einstein sound like Maxine Waters.
I'm just some dumb ass country boy who only had around 20 hours of college level chemistry, so what do I know anyway.
