For me, it was a number of years back when we decided to visit a new Mexican buffet place. This is going to have interesting items, right?

Well, no. The tiny Tex-Mex bar at Golden Corral had more items of more quality. Also, the place was rather expensive.

During the meal, my 6 month old daughter started getting a disturbed look on her face. Hey, but babies have that all the time.

Then she began to throw up. I don't mean spit up; I mean a large quantity of mostly mommy's milk starting coming up. Luckily she was wearing a bib with pockets that caught it. I was able to take the bib to the bathroom and clean it up.

We were almost done and ready to leave. They wanted to be nice (I guess) and offered us some kind of desert tostado. We didn't want it, but we didn't want to be rude, so we asked if we could take it with us. They said that it was a buffet and you have to eat it here. So we just said, "no thanks."

The place was closed within 6 months.

It wasn't the worst, but most painful and it was my fault. I went to the Chinese restaurant, that my friends told me it has authentic Chinese food. Menu was very standard, so I asked the waiter if they have some delicacy out of menu only for the Chinese people.

He got worried, and asked me if I am sure. I said yes and I insisted. So he brought pickled pigs ears, sliced that it looked like spaghetti. It was very, very chewy. Little tasteless but I ate it all. Unfortunately it was so chewy and hard that my jaws ached for an hour.

At least they didn't bring you stir fried cat.

They wouldn't. It is a delicacy sold only to the trusted customers. Like dogs and rats.

But don't worry, Americans will eat anything. In hot dogs.

Maybe. But if you put a lot of yellow mustard on it and gulp it down, you probably don't notice.

There is a lot of delicious dishes Americans miss by putting the key ingredients into hotdogs.

Kidney pie, tripe soup, brain mousse cake etc ...

I've probably tasted just about all of of them. I grew up in Louisiana where all of the hog is used for food . And I mean ALL.

Kidneys, i am mixed on. They taste sort of like what they process. However, there are some good ways to cook it.

I love tripe. Evidently everyone does these days. It has become as expensive as ribeye steak.

Oh and squirrel brains are damn fine tasty.

I love tripe.

(You need vodka when meal is ready. Half pint per person.)

wash tripe, cut in 1/3in strips, no more than 3in long. in large soup pot, saute whole onion, celery and carrot until golden. add tripe, and 6-7c water, enough to cover.

add maggi (optional), salt, marjoram, nutmeg, paprika, bay leaf, pepper and allspice. I reccomend putting your whole pepper and allspice in either a tea ball, or in cheese cloth, otherwise this soup gets difficult to eat when you have to pick out the spices.

cook for 1-2 hours until trip is tender, not soft and mushy. make a roux. Fry 1/3c flour over high heat until it turns light brown. Take some liquid out of the soup, mix the roux into that liquid, and add the mixture back.

Serve with rye bread.

Are you from Poland?

I have heard it is the most friendly place in Europe for Americans to visit.

Yup.

Could be. I would think also about Ireland, Italy, etc ...
