The Leftist writing crew and cast HATED that the American public actually related to Archie and loved him, finding the role of "Archie" refreshingly honest and funny. The Lefty crew couldn't wrap their heads around it. They also couldn't understand how the parasitic Commie Meathead character was regarded with contempt. So what happened? They changed the entire formula for the show...
Do you recall how after a few years they softened and neutered the Archie character while eventually making the Meathead character appear to be a virtuous, sane Socialist college professor? It was all downhill after that as 'All In The Family' became increasingly propagandist and far less funny. By the last few years, the show was unwatchable.
(The show's "George Jefferson" staring as a "black Archie," went on to star in 'The Jeffersons,' where audiences both black and white embraced the portrayal -- again, because it was refreshingly honest and funny.)
Apparently, leftist Carroll O'Connor -- overly concerned that his character of Archie was so convincing -- immediately starred in another TV show as a southern Sheriff, portraying as a man who was a SJW and whose love interest was black.
