Photos of empty seats continue to make their appearance on Twitter as the NFL’s Week 10 games debut on Veterans Day, this weekend. Though only a few players decided to protest the country on this day dedicated to our soldiers, fans stayed away in droves. According to the Twitter account Empty Seats Galore, the Rams “handed out 60,032 tickets” for the game as they met the Houston Texans beating the Texans 33 to 7. This may be my last tweets-n-pics post. It's just too much work to do one of these. Anyway, these photos are shrunk to fit but they are the full HD photos so you can right-click and select View or just visit Twitter to see these at full size.
Why are you giving pro football coverage and clicks. I thought we're supposed to be boycotting them.
Why do mouthbreathers wear those silly costumes when they're never actually on the field playing the kids game?
I think the NFL would not consider these pics from Empty Seats Galore (@EmptySeatsPics) to be friendly coverage. He's become kind of a goto guy for collecting these photos of small NFL crowds at some games.
Well a lot of these stadiums are attended by teams with hopelessly losing records. The only NFL game I ever attended was in Detroit between the Saints and Lions. Geez, almost nobody came. It was in the now demolished Silverdome (or ignored), and it was quite pleasurable. The ticket was cheap. The parking was cheap. And the Saints won!
And some aren't unpopular teams. I'm mostly watching whether the fan anger over the anthem and the PC stuff is durable or if fans get over being mad and go back to their fall NFL viewing habits. So far, the dropoff in fan interest seems to be holding up but the NFL isn't really bending. Some stadiums are heavily discounting or giving away big numbers of tickets and still have empty seats. The owners are sticking together mostly and seem prepared to see lower stadium attendance. So there's a sizable number of NFL boycotters out there and the NFL is holding tough for now. And Goodell thinks he deserves a $50M salary and a free private jet for life in his new contract.
So far, the dropoff in fan interest seems to be holding up but the NFL isn't really bending. Some stadiums are heavily discounting or giving away big numbers of tickets and still have empty seats. The owners are sticking together mostly and seem prepared to see lower stadium attendance. It'll change if the owners go back to blacking out tv coverage of home games, as they did in the 60/70's Those were the days, --- we had to drive way out in the valley to see 49er home games.
