Sunday's Game 5 of the World Series — the last to be played in Houston and the second-longest on record — climbed again on Sunday night, trouncing NBC's typically dominant Sunday Night Football in the process. Early indicators have the Astros' 13-12 win taking the No. 1 spot for primetime — averaging a 12.8 overnight rating among households. That's off 16 percent from the comparable Game 5 in 2016 but still the second-biggest Game 5 since 2003. It also easily ranked as the biggest World Series game of 2017 thus far. Last year's Game 5, which kept the Chicago Cubs in the running for their ultimately historic World Series win, averaged an initial 15.3 households rating in early returns. That number translated to 23.6 million viewers, a series best at that point, and an enviable 6.7 rating among adults 18-49. The 2016 Game 5 managed to topple the NFL by a stunning margin, pulling in 32 percent more viewers. As for Sunday Night Football, the Pittsburgh-Detroit game had little chance of improving on the previous week's appearance from the New England Patriots. The game dropped to a 9.4 overnight rating. That's also down significantly from the comparable weekend a year ago. What's particularly incredible about Sunday's World Series game is the stamina the audience had, even with the bloated run-time. The game ran a whopping 5 hours and 17 minutes — stretching well past midnight on the East Coast. Viewership, it seems, did not drop off after 12 a.m. The series, now 3-2, returns to Los Angeles on Tuesday night with the Astros now within one win of their first World Series victory.

And why not? There was plenty of time for a nap or two. I think the NFL continues to damage itself with its goofball protests. But they will just continue to decline slowly. NFL will end with a whimper, not a bang. More likely, they'll decline to a core audience who doesn't care if every player on both teams moons the flag while the anthem plays. But the audience will have shrunk by then to a pale shadow of what it once was and NFL profitability along with it. As seen at AoS: When you're 0-8, why spend money on talented players or coaches or both? So is it about gun control or police brutality or what? Do these brain-damaged players have any idea of what they be protestin'? Besides, they look silly when they're kneeling for the anthem.
I never got this whole kneeling thing anyway. People kneel in prayer out of respect for God. Are they kneeling out of respect for the country? I think, though, they have have made it clear they are not. If they truly wanted to show contempt, they could have grabbed their crotch and stuck their middle finger in the air during the anthem. I guess they just wanted to be contrarian without being too provocative. Still, if it had just been ignored, it would have gone away.
I had to take the day off work the next day after that game. It didn't end until almost 2 AM EDT. I kept thinking I will just go to sleep and read about it tomorrow. Yet, I couldn't leave the game. I have been an Astros fan since I was kid in the late 60s.
Apparently, the playas realized that 8 years of 0bummer got them a big fat nothing on issues they care about. So now they're mad that Trump disrespected them. Or that a couple of black kids got shot by cops in 2016 (including Traybon who was shot by a neighborhood watch guy, Zimmerman, back in 2012). Or that guns are too freely available. They're stupid brain-damaged morons, marginally educated by a system that only ever cared to exploit their football talents. And they think that makes them very very special, that Whitey better listen to them or else. And they're surprised that so many of their fans don't give a crap about their confused political opinions.
It's an exciting series to watch. Game 7 tonight should be interesting as all pitchers are available. We may not see one reliever come to the mound.

Did you really think the politicization of the NFL starts and stops with the taking of a knee at the sounds of the national Anthem you are wrong. Now the San Fran 49’ers are acting as a Democrat Party PAC—giving $500,000 to promote gun control.
“According to ESPN, the 49ers presented the gun control pledge as part of creating a “more understanding and safer America.” The $500,000 will also be used to push a ban on bump stocks and armor-piercing bullets.
