As an entertainment journalist, I've had the opportunity to cover Trump for over a decade, and in all my years covering him I've never heard anything negative about the man until he announced he was running for president.

Keep in mind, I got paid a lot of money to dig up dirt on celebrities like Trump for a living so a scandalous story on the famous billionaire could've potentially sold a lot of magazines and would've been a Huge feather in my cap.

Instead, I found that he doesn't drink alcohol or do drugs, he's a hardworking businessman. On top of that, he's one of the most generous celebrities in the world with a heart filled with more gold than his $100 million New York penthouse.

Since the media has failed so miserably at reporting the truth about Trump, I decided to put together some of the acts of kindness he's committed over three decades which has gone virtually unnoticed or fallen on deaf ears.

• In 1986, Trump prevented the foreclosure of Annabell Hill's family farm after her husband committed suicide. Trump personally phoned down to the auction to stop the sale of her home and offered the widow money. Trump decided to take action after he saw Hill's pleas for help in news reports.

• In 1988, a commercial airline refused to fly Andrew Ten, a sick Orthodox Jewish child with a rare illness, across the country to get medical care because he had to travel with an elaborate life-support system. His grief stricken parents contacted Trump for help and he didn't hesitate to send his own plane to take the child from Los Angeles to New York so he could get his treatment.

• In 1991, 200 Marines who served in Operation Desert Storm spent time at Camp Jejune in North Carolina before they were scheduled to return home to their families. However, the Marines were told that a mistake had been made and an aircraft would not be able to take them home on their scheduled departure date. When Trump got wind of this, he sent his plane to make two trips from North Carolina to Miami to safely return the Gulf War Marines to their loved ones.

• In 1995, a motorist stopped to help Trump after the limo he was traveling in got a flat tire. Trump asked the Good Samaritan how he could repay him for his help. All the man asked for was a bouquet of flowers for his wife. A few weeks later Trump sent the flowers with a note that read: We've paid off your mortgage.

• In 1996, Trump filed a lawsuit against the city of Palm Beach, Florida, accusing the town of discriminating against his Mar-a-Lago resort club because it allowed Jews and blacks. Abraham Foxman, who was the Anti-Defamation League Director at the time, said Trump put the light on Palm Beach not on the beauty and the glitter, but on its seamier side of discrimination. Foxman also noted that Trump's charge had a trickle-down effect because other clubs followed his lead and began admitting Jews and blacks.

• In 2000, Maury Povich featured a little girl named Megan who struggled with Brittle Bone Disease on his show and Trump happened to be watching. Trump said the little girl's story and positive attitude touched his heart. So he contacted Maury and gifted the little girl and her family with a very generous check.

• In 2008, after Jennifer Hudson's family members were tragically murdered in Chicago, Trump put the Oscar-winning actress and her family up at his Windy City hotel for free. In addition to that, Trump's security took extra measures to ensure Hudson and her family members were safe during such a difficult time.

• In 2013, New York bus driver Darnell Barton spotted a woman close to the edge of a bridge staring at traffic below as he drove by. He stopped the bus, got out and put his arm around the woman and saved her life by convincing her to not jump. When Trump heard about this story, he sent the hero bus driver a check simply because he believed his good deed deserved to be rewarded.

• In 2014, Trump gave $25,000 to Sgt. Andrew Tamoressi after he spent seven months in a Mexican jail for accidentally crossing the US-Mexico border. President Barack Obama couldn't even be bothered to make one phone call to assist with the United States Marine's release; however, Trump opened his pocketbook to help this serviceman get back on his feet.

• In 2016, Melissa Consin Young attended a Trump rally and tearfully thanked Trump for changing her life. She said she proudly stood on stage with Trump as Miss Wisconsin USA in 2005. However, years later she found herself struggling with an incurable illness and during her darkest days she explained that she received a handwritten letter from Trump telling her she's the bravest woman, I know. She said the opportunities that she got from Trump and his organizations ultimately provided her Mexican-American son with a full-ride to college.

• Lynne Patton, a black female executive for the Trump Organization, released a statement in 2016 defending her boss against accusations that he's a racist and a bigot. She tearfully revealed how she's struggled with substance abuse and addiction for years. Instead of kicking her to the curb, she said the Trump Organization and his entire family loyally stood by her through immensely difficult times.

Donald Trump's kindness knows no bounds and his generosity has and continues to touch the lives of people from every sex, race and religion. When Trump sees someone in need, he wants to help. Two decades ago, Oprah asked Trump in a TV interview if he'd run for president. He said: If it got so bad, I would never want to rule it out totally, because I really am tired of seeing what's happening with this country.

That day has come.

Trump sees that America is in need and he wants to help. How unthinkable!

On the other hand. have you ever heard of Hillary or Obama ever doing such things with their own resources?

Now that's really unthinkable! Might be worth passing on!!!

(This has been fact checked)

Gee. What leftist woulda thought it? Trump is a true humanitarian in every sense of that word. However, unlike Jimmy Carter, he doesn't pound nails into tar paper shacks.

I've never even heard of them doing it with anyone's else's money. IF either ever got an opportunity to use someone else's money for a PR stunt, you can bet they skimmed at least half of it right off the top for "expenses" and then used volunteers or the children of people in a position to help them.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.

Trump's performance with his charities does remain questionable.

You can cite some of these stories that he engaged in charity, always grabbing full credit in the media for it. Just PR really.

And there are plenty of other instances where Trump has collected money for charity and then held on to it for a considerable time before dispersing it, effectively borrowing money interest-free from his own "charity". And his kids apparently do the same.

A lot of "charities" by NYC socialites are just PR scams. And Trump has typical of those charity scams over the years.

Weekly Standard: For Years, Trump's Charity Gave Veterans Little More Than Peanuts

Donald Trump says he's skipping the final debate before the Iowa caucuses on Thursday night because he's upset with Fox News and debate moderator Megyn Kelly. Trump will instead hold a "special event to benefit veterans organizations" in Iowa, according to a campaign press release. But the event could come off as a cheap political stunt exploiting veterans, especially because the Donald J Trump Foundation has been far from generous to veterans organizations over the years.

As Emily Canal of Forbes reported in October: "The Donald J. Trump Foundation has donated $5.5 million to 298 charities between 2009 and 2013 (the most recent year available), according to the non-profit's 990 tax forms from those years. Of that, only $57,000 has been donated to seven organizations that directly benefit military veterans or their families, Forbes found. Wounded Warriors was not among the organizations Trump's foundation gave to in that time period."

Some veterans say that the billionaire has been AWOL when it comes to helping veterans. "Donald Trump is not a leader in veterans' philanthropy, unless he's donated a lot of money that nobody knows about," Paul Rieckhoff, founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, told the New York Times in July. "We were founded in New York. We are headquartered in New York. I've been here 10 years, and I don't think I've ever even seen Donald Trump."

Rieckhoff, an Iraq war veteran, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: "If offered, @IAVA will decline donations from Trump's event. We need strong policies from candidates, not to be used for political stunts."

In an email to THE WEEKLY STANDARD, Trump's spokeswoman Hope Hicks said that "Mr. Trump has made significant financial and in kind contributions to many Veterans organizations, personally and not through the Donald J. Trump foundation." Trump's spokeswoman did not reply to an email asking if she could share an estimate of Trump's personal donations to veterans organizations.

The Trump Foundation's $57,000 in donations to veterans groups from 2009 to 2013 amounted to far less than Trump's donations to the Clinton Foundation. "Trump is listed on the Clinton Foundation's donor page as having given somewhere between $100,001 and $250,000," the Daily Caller reported last year.

The Trump foundation's 2014 donations to politically connected organizations easily outmatched donations to veterans groups: That year, the foundation gave $26,500 to the Anti-Defamation League, $25,000 to the American Spectator Foundation, and $100,000 to the Citizens United Foundation.

The Donald J. Trump Foundation also gave about $57,000 to the Susan G. Komen foundation in 2012, the same year that the breast cancer charity courted controversy over its subtantial donations to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the country. The foundation even provided a small donation the the ACLU, a left-wing civil liberties organization opposed to religious liberty.

The Smoking Gun has documented Trump's overall miserly giving for years. In 1999, the website called Trump "The .00013% Man," referring to the percentage of his wealth that the foundation had donated. As a percentage of Trump's overall net worth, the Donald J Trump Foundation's contributions haven't increased much in recent years.

In his stump speeches lately, Trump has described himself as greedy and tried to turn his vice into a selling point for voters. "I'm very greedy. I'm a greedy person. I shouldn't tell you that, I'm a greedy – I've always been greedy. I love money, right?" Trump said on January 9. "But, you know what? I want to be greedy for our country."

Snopes reported on this and essentially vindicated Trump against some accusations over his military charity event in Iowa:

While most of the leading Republican presidential candidates attended a Fox News-hosted debate in Iowa on 28 January 2016, Donald Trump boycotted the event (as a protest over Fox’s allowing Megyn Kelly, whom Trump felt had asked him “unfair questions in a previous debate, to serve as a moderator) and instead hosted his own event as a fund-raiser for veterans.

Trump instructed supporters to visit the web site of the Donald J Trump Foundation for Vets in order to make donations to the cause. Some potential donors were skeptical, however, as the receiving entity was listed as the Donald J Trump Foundation and not a veterans’ charity: . . .

The Donald J Trump Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. An email confirmation with a summary of your donation will be sent to the email address provided above.

While it’s true that the $6 million raised by Trump during his veterans’ charity event on 28 January 2016 was initially paid to The Donald J Trump Foundation, that foundation is supposed to disburse the donations, along with another $1 million donated by Trump himself, to a variety of veteran’s charities:

The GOP front-runner, who hosted his own event in Des Moines, Iowa, after boycotting the Republican debate just three miles down the road, announced that he had raised $6 million to donate to veterans groups. Trump donated $1 million of his own money to the cause.

The money raised during Trump’s special event to benefit veterans initially went to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, but it’s inaccurate to say that the money ended up in the candidate’s personal account or will be used to fund his presidential campaign.

In response to queries over the matter, on 31 May 2016 Donald Trump held a press conference to announce that he eventually gave “close to six million dollars” to veterans’ groups and that the press “should be ashamed of themselves” for asking questions about the money he donated.

“I have never received such bad publicity for doing such a good job,” Trump said in a press conference at Trump Tower in Manhattann. He issued a list of the veterans groups who received the money, saying that “As of this moment, [the total amount donated] is $5.6 million. All of the money has been spent.”

Trump said he didn’t release the names of the veterans organizations sooner because he wanted to respect their privacy and asserted that the money for a number of these groups had already been delivered some time earlier.

Trump’s list of checks already issued read as follows:

22Kill: $200,000.

Achilles International : $200,000

American Hero Adventures: $100,000

Americas for equal living: $100,000

America’s vet dogs: the veteran canine corp Inc: $75,000

Freedom Alliance : $75,000

Green Beret Foundation: $350,000

Higher Heroes USA: $75,000

Homes for our Troops: $100,000

Honoring America’s Warriors: $100,000

Hope for the Warriors: $65,000

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund: $175,000

Canines for Warriors: $50,000

Liberty House: $100,00

Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation: $1.1m (including $1m from Trump himself, he says)

Navy Seal Foundation: $465,000

Navy Marine Corps Relief Society: $75,000

New England Wounded Vets Inc: $75,000

Operation Home Front: $65,000

Project for Patriots: $100,000 (this “check is check is ready to go” but Trump is still vetting the group, he says, awaiting an “IRS determination letter”. “They have to give us that final document”.

Puppy Jake Foundation: $100,000

Racing for Heroes, Inc: $200,000

Support Siouxland Soldiers: $100,000

Task Force Dagger Foundation: $50,000

The Mission Continues: $75,000

National Military Families Inc: $75,000

Veterans Airlift Command: $100,000

Veterans Count: $25,000

Veterans in Command Inc: $150,000

Vietnam Veterans Workshop Inc: $75,000

Warriors for Freedom Foundation: $50,000

“And I believe we’re going to have some more coming in.”

Trump held on to that money for over a quarter, essentially an interest-free loan to himself even if he eventually paid out.

This is a very typical scam among supposed billionaire philanthropists. They love to grab the headlines but they like to set up foundations and charities for their cronies and children to benefit from, the same way that Chelsea Hubbell Clinton does from the Xlinton Foundation.

OTOH, I could care less. As we know, the Dems give far less to charity as evidenced from tax returns from their presidential candidates over the last 30 years or so.

I know I've told you this in an earlier post, but one thing you don't have to worry about is being 'Too Conservative.'

Like I'm supposed to care all that much?

Apparently, you can't bear to see any actual examination of Trump's record of charity, about which he does boast in public.

What I notice most is not how much he gives but how he races to the camera to claim credit each and every time.

Trump's "charities" are just a PR tactic. That is also true of a lot of corporate donors, lots of non-profits. Trump isn't hardly alone in exploiting charity for PR purposes.

You're super critical of President Trump, but would you be happier with a President Hitlery?

Why rag on him? Or are you just a 'conservative' nit-picker?

You're super critical of President Trump, but would you be happier with a President Hitlery?

I don't think so.

I've posted article after article on Trump's attack on stifling regulations, on his replacement of a large portion of the judiciary, on how Trump has been as conservative or far more conservative in office than we could have expected from any of the other 16 candidates for the GOP nomination. It's difficult to argue that even Rand Paul and Ted Cruz could have been more conservative as prez as what Trump has been.

I post plenty of pro-Trump articles and comments. It isn't my fault if you haven't noticed them. I think that if you counted them up, you'd find I post the most pro-Trump articles of anyone on this site.

Maybe you're just a Trump fanboi who can't bear any rational examination of Trump. And there are as many Trump fanbois of this type as there were of 0bama fanbois during his awful 8 years.

I'm in the camp of Good-Trump-Bad-Trump. I have no problem praising or criticizing him.

He has been a lot better as prez than I would have ever imagined. He is actually more conservative than Reagan or Spook Daddy or Dumbya. And I still say that none of the other 16 GOP 2016 candidates would have been more conservative. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz might have been as conservative as Trump but could hardly have done more than Trump has done. They would not have as many unforced errors that drive their polling down the way Trump has done with his tweets and poorly considered blurtings to the press. But judges and regulation and immigration/borders and trying to dump 0bamaCare, I don't see how you say they would have been more conservative or more effective in getting 0bamaCare repealed. They still would have had to contend with the Stain, Collins and Murkowski, just like Trump has.

The idea that any of the pols in either party is beyond criticism is just naive.
