Title: Democrats should be terrified by this governorÂ’s race [Virginia]

WINCHESTER, VA. — The melodic sounds of a street musician’s trumpet echo through every corner of this old Virginia town as locals shop or make their way to lunch. Daren Johnson has been blowing his horn at the pedestrian mall in the shadow of the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Museum for over an hour. He performs for two reasons: “To make some extra cash and to share a little bit of lightness. We are exhausted as a country,” he said, “a direct result of last year’s election.”

Johnson and his wife were tireless volunteers for Hillary Clinton last year. They knocked on doors, they made phone calls, they were invested. When she lost, the couple was devastated. Now, Johnson doesn’t even know who is running for governor.

“I’ve voted every year for the past 46 years, always informed, always enthusiastic, always involved in the process. Now, it’s really hard to care,” Johnson said.

The upcoming gubernatorial election in Virginia is one of only two happening in the country this year, along with New Jersey. The race pits Ralph Northam, the current lieutenant governor and a Democrat, against Ed Gillespie, a former George W. Bush administration official and Republican National Committee chairman.

Gillespie (left) and Northam

Northam should have a comfortable lead right now. Terry McAuliffe, the outgoing governor he currently serves under, is popular and generally seen as successful. Plus, Virginians have historically elected governors from the party opposite to a president who’s won the year before. In 2001, Democrat Mark Warner won one year after George W. Bush was elected; in 2009, Republican Bob McDonnell won one year after Barack Obama took the state.

And, of course, there is the Trump factor — Clinton beat the president comfortably here, although almost all of her vote came from the heavily populated, heavily liberal Northern Virginia suburbs with the rest of the state (mostly rural, mostly forgotten) going for Donald Trump with the exception of the state capital and some college towns.

But Northam’s numbers are not up — in fact, the last three public polls show next month’s race within the margin of error. That includes a Monmouth University poll released Tuesday, which gives Gillespie the edge over Northam among likely voters by 48 to 47 percent.

Both parties have pulled out all the stops for this race. Ex-president Obama was here for a rally; George W. Bush for a fundraiser. Joe Biden’s stumped here, so has Vice President Mike Pence. So far, Trump has only tweeted about the race: “Ralph Northam, who is running for Governor of Virginia, is fighting for the violent MS-13 killer gangs & sanctuary cities. Vote Ed Gillespie!”

Gillespie has avoided broadcasting that endorsement on the campaign trail. There are no mentions of it on his website. After Trump claimed there were “some very fine people on both sides” of a neo-Nazi protest in nearby Charlottesville that left one woman dead, Gillespie’s spokesman Dave Abrams said the candidate “did not see any fine people on the side of the white nationalists and neo-Nazis.” But Gillespie has not directly criticized Trump either.

Meanwhile Stephanie Vaughan, the Democratic county chairperson in Winchester, says the party is working hard to clinch victory by appealing to a wider crowd. “We very much try to have a big-tent approach here. We welcome moderate, progressive and conservative Democrats into our party, and we encourage everyone to listen to our message,” she said. “Here our issues are pretty straightforward — transportation, education and health care.”

Behind the counter of her coffee shop, Lanita Byrne said she did not vote for Trump and loved Clinton but is completely undecided on which candidate she wants for governor. “Honestly it comes down to who is best on taxes. I think there should be less burdens and more opportunities for small-business owners,” she said.

Clark Hansbarger, meanwhile, said he saw the Trump win coming from a mile away. “I kept telling all of my liberal friends, and they would just laugh at me. They thought no way,” he said. Hansbarger then chuckles and admits he, too, is a liberal. “But, look, I travel a lot. When Trump spoke about carnage in his inaugural address, I’ve seen exactly what he meant all over the country,” he said.

Johnson begins to play his trumpet again, then stops. “I guess I’ll vote,” he admits. “But honestly I am sick of both parties . . . and I am not voting straight ticket, that is for sure.”

Certainly the Democrats are the ones with the most to lose. The party has had a year to craft the perfect message offering voters an alternative to the Republicans in power. Have they succeeded? Maybe. If not, the rejection could be almost as bad as the pain they were dealt nationally last year. Once again, a race easily within their grasp could slip through their fingers because they failed to excite their base.

Poster Comment:

The Dem is about as exciting as Dukakis or Shitlery, i.e. charisma around zero. Still, history strongly favors a Dem victory. I think the attacks on the Confederate monuments and the demoralization of Dems gives Gillespie a strong chance, maybe even an advantage over Northam, McCauliffe's stooge lieutenant governor. If they lose this one, the Dems will really be desperate.(1 image)

Virginia is no longer a southern state. It is controlled by all the yankees and other scum that moved in to the state to suckle at the tits of Big Mama Goobermint in DC.

When they elect sub-scum demons like McAuliffe to be governor, you know it's over.

President Trump recently signed an Executive Order extending DACA sanctuary for MS-13 and other illegal alien "Dream Students".

You really need to stop lying. Stone has chastised you many times for spreading your lies. There has been no Executive Order signed by Trump that extends DACA sanctuary for MS-13 gang members. On the contrary, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced today and even stricter crackdown on the brutal MS-13 street gang. Sessions today designated the MS-13 gang as a "priority" for the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces. This new designation in effect today now directs prosecutors to pursue all legal avenues, including racketeering, gun and tax laws, to target the gang. It is noteworthy to mention that this gang has become a prime target of President Donald Trump's administration amid its broader crackdown on immigration. This new designation today will allow officials to target MS-13 with a renewed vigor and a sharpened focus.

No, you are the dumb one for trying to pass off lies and not expecting to be caught/ You need to learn that you just cannot make up lies and not expect to be caught. Even Breitbart was unsuccessful with all their sophistication. If Breitbart cannot succeed….then how in Heavens sake do you ever expect to?

Breitbart uses photo of gang members in El Salvador to smear DACA recipients

This was completely misleading.!

Breitbart News presented a photo of MS-13 gang members in El Salvador as if they were DACA recipients in the United States.

The photo of El Salvadoran gangsters appeared at the top of an article about DACA recipients on Breitbart’s website and on its Twitter account. Twitter user @_Almaqah traced the image back to a Getty photo from January 2013 showing gang members gesturing in San Salvador.

Breitbart used a Getty photo of MS-13 members in El Salvaor to talk about DACA recipients in the U.S.

The tweet was deleted and the photo accompanying the story was later replaced.

You still working for Sabtech Industries and leeching off taxpayers’ monies from government contracts….or did they fold and go out of business?

Why do you need to be gainfully employed anyway since you are long past 65 years of age? Were you too stupid to plan ahead for retirement?

As for me, I have no responsibilities to perform anything I don’t choose to undertake. All I have to do is research potential stock trades during the night and be ready for the stock market to open at six thirty every weekday so I can begin “swing trading.” Which is something I continue to successfully do….something that permitted me to retire at such a young age to enjoy life in beautiful Scottsdale.

Unlike you, I planned ahead and invested wisely so I was able to fully in 1975 at just over 40 years in age.

And what a wonderful retirement it is.

Yes that's the one where Trump orders the Press Secretary to protect the "Dreamers" for six months to give congress time to NOT repeal DACA. No way will Nancy Pelosi, Paul Ryan, Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell and the D&R Party reconquista majority in congress, do anything except to love, cherish, and protect Obama & Donald's illegal alien Dream Students.

Then they'll come up with another installment of "Why We Have to Keep the Dream Students", undocumented MS-13, undocumented ISIS Muslims, Senator Juan McCain's lettuce pickers, etc, illegal aliens.

It's clear that they're dithering around until after the elections to pass an amnesty bill. It's gonna be a lots of laughs hearing their BS excuses to surrender the USA to Aztlan & Allah!

It's a situation comedy show, that's NOT funny!

Perhaps you mean a September statement from the Office of the Press Secretary ending the DACA program.

Yes that's the one where Trump orders the Press Secretary to protect the "Dreamers" for six months to give congress time to NOT "deal with the DACA issue". There IS no issue, the law is that illegal aliens are to be deported. President Trump refuses to do his duty and order the Dreamers deported. Obama was the same. Bush loved the illegal aliens, but we defeated his amnesty bill. The last president to do his duty was Ike Eisenhower with his Operation Wetback.

In addition to that law, the US Constitution says that the Federal Government's duty is "to protect the States against invasion".

No way will Nancy Pelosi, Paul Ryan, Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell and the D&R Party reconquista majority in congress, do anything except to love, cherish, and protect Obama & Donald's illegal alien DACA Dream Students.

Then they'll come up with another installment of "Why We Have to Keep the Dream Students", undocumented MS-13, undocumented ISIS Muslims, Senator Juan McCain's lettuce pickers, etc, illegal aliens.

It's clear that they're dithering around until after the elections, to once again try to pass an amnesty bill. It's gonna be a lots of laughs hearing their BS excuses to surrender the USA to Aztlan & Allah!

It's a situation comedy show, that's NOT funny!

Thank you for reinforcing my point. The Donald can't abdicate his duties and responsibilities to some flunky, or pass congress an empty box with DACA written on the outside, and claim that it's a "win". President Trump has failed to enforce immigration law and deport the illegal alien "Dream Students". There never was any DACA legislation or law that passed congress! DACA is only Executive Orders by Obama and Trump.

He's also failed to obey the US Constitution "to protect the States against invasion" by continuing to accept and grant applications for DACA illegal alien sanctuary during the first part of his term. Those Trump "Dream Students" are still here, along with Obama's, and they've all still got sanctuary under President Trump's administration.

... generates zero sympathy from me ...

It must be extremely hard for you to face the stigma attached to confessing that you are incapable of feeling sympathy. However, this is not unusual for a person whose range of emotions are stunted to say the least and all are negative. It probably is a lack of belief in human interdependence that fuels your unsympathetic behavior. It must be a lonely and desolate place for you to be….feeling like you are an alien among your own species.

DACA is only Executive Orders by Obama and Trump.

DACA is only Executive Orders by Obama and Trump.

There is no Executive Order implementing DACA. Therefore, there is no EO to repeal.

DACA was an Obama announcement in the Rose Garden that DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano had issued a memorandum with the subject, "Exercising Prosecutorial Discretion with Respect to Individuals Who Came to the United States as Children," dated June 15, 2012. Janet Napolitano implemented DACA.

The Trump administration announced the winding down and elimination of DACA.

Attorney General Sessions Delivers Remarks on DACA

Washington, DC

~ Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Remarks as prepared for delivery

Good morning. I am here today to announce that the program known as DACA that was effectuated under the Obama Administration is being rescinded.

The DACA program was implemented in 2012 and essentially provided a legal status for recipients for a renewable two-year term, work authorization and other benefits, including participation in the social security program, to 800,000 mostly-adult illegal aliens.

This policy was implemented unilaterally to great controversy and legal concern after Congress rejected legislative proposals to extend similar benefits on numerous occasions to this same group of illegal aliens.

In other words, the executive branch, through DACA, deliberately sought to achieve what the legislative branch specifically refused to authorize on multiple occasions. Such an open-ended circumvention of immigration laws was an unconstitutional exercise of authority by the Executive Branch.

The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences. It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.

We inherited from our Founders—and have advanced—an unsurpassed legal heritage, which is the foundation of our freedom, safety, and prosperity.

As the Attorney General, it is my duty to ensure that the laws of the United States are enforced and that the Constitutional order is upheld.

No greater good can be done for the overall health and well-being of our Republic, than preserving and strengthening the impartial rule of law. Societies where the rule of law is treasured are societies that tend to flourish and succeed.

Societies where the rule of law is subject to political whims and personal biases tend to become societies afflicted by corruption, poverty, and human suffering.

To have a lawful system of immigration that serves the national interest, we cannot admit everyone who would like to come here. That is an open border policy and the American people have rightly rejected it.

Therefore, the nation must set and enforce a limit on how many immigrants we admit each year and that means all can not be accepted.

This does not mean they are bad people or that our nation disrespects or demeans them in any way. It means we are properly enforcing our laws as Congress has passed them.

It is with these principles and duties in mind, and in light of imminent litigation, that we reviewed the Obama Administration’s DACA policy.

Our collective wisdom is that the policy is vulnerable to the same legal and constitutional challenges that the courts recognized with respect to the DAPA program, which was enjoined on a nationwide basis in a decision affirmed by the Fifth Circuit.

The Fifth Circuit specifically concluded that DACA had not been implemented in a fashion that allowed sufficient discretion, and that DAPA was “foreclosed by Congress’s careful plan.”

In other words, it was inconsistent with the Constitution’s separation of powers. That decision was affirmed by the Supreme Court by an equally divided vote.

If we were to keep the Obama Administration’s executive amnesty policy, the likeliest outcome is that it would be enjoined just as was DAPA. The Department of Justice has advised the President and the Department of Homeland Security that DHS should begin an orderly, lawful wind down, including the cancellation of the memo that authorized this program.

Acting Secretary Duke has chosen, appropriately, to initiate a wind down process. This will enable DHS to conduct an orderly change and fulfill the desire of this administration to create a time period for Congress to act—should it so choose. We firmly believe this is the responsible path.

Simply put, if we are to further our goal of strengthening the constitutional order and the rule of law in America, the Department of Justice cannot defend this type of overreach.

George Washington University Law School Professor Jonathan Turley in testimony before the House Judiciary Committee was clear about the enormous constitutional infirmities raised by these policies.

He said: “In ordering this blanket exception, President Obama was nullifying part of a law that he simply disagreed with.….If a president can claim sweeping discretion to suspend key federal laws, the entire legislative process becomes little more than a pretense…The circumvention of the legislative process not only undermines the authority of this branch but destabilizes the tripartite system as a whole.”

Ending the previous Administration’s disrespect for the legislative process is an important first step. All immigration policies should serve the interests of the people of the United States—lawful immigrant and native born alike.

Congress should carefully and thoughtfully pursue the types of reforms that are right for the American people. Our nation is comprised of good and decent people who want their government’s leaders to fulfill their promises and advance an immigration policy that serves the national interest.

We are a people of compassion and we are a people of law. But there is nothing compassionate about the failure to enforce immigration laws.

Enforcing the law saves lives, protects communities and taxpayers, and prevents human suffering. Failure to enforce the laws in the past has put our nation at risk of crime, violence and even terrorism.

The compassionate thing is to end the lawlessness, enforce our laws, and, if Congress chooses to make changes to those laws, to do so through the process set forth by our Founders in a way that advances the interest of the nation.

That is what the President has promised to do and has delivered to the American people.

Under President Trump’s leadership, this administration has made great progress in the last few months toward establishing a lawful and constitutional immigration system. This makes us safer and more secure.

It will further economically the lives of millions who are struggling. And it will enable our country to more effectively teach new immigrants about our system of government and assimilate them to the cultural understandings that support it.

The substantial progress in reducing illegal immigration at our border seen in recent months is almost entirely the product of the leadership of President Trump and his inspired federal immigration officers. But the problem is not solved. And without more action, we could see illegality rise again rather than be eliminated.

As a candidate, and now in office, President Trump has offered specific ideas and legislative solutions that will protect American workers, increase wages and salaries, defend our national security, ensure the public safety, and increase the general well-being of the American people.

He has worked closely with many members of Congress, including in the introduction of the RAISE Act, which would produce enormous benefits for our country. This is how our democratic process works.

There are many powerful interest groups in this country and every one of them has a constitutional right to advocate their views and represent whomever they choose.

But the Department of Justice does not represent any narrow interest or any subset of the American people. We represent all of the American people and protect the integrity of our Constitution. That is our charge.

We at Department of Justice are proud and honored to work to advance this vision for America and to do our best each day to ensure the safety and security of the American people.

Thank you.
