Title: Trump expected to block release of classified JFK assassination documents

President Trump is anticipated to block the release of some of the classified files related to former President John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963, which are to be made public by next Thursday.

Unless Trump intervenes, the National Archives has until Oct. 26 to release nearly 3,100 documents pertaining to Kennedy's assassination in 1963. The date was established by the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992, which was signed into law by former President George H.W. Bush in an attempt to minimize conspiracy theories about Kennedy's death.

Trump administration officials are concerned releasing classified documents from the 1990s would jeopardize national security by providing information on recent American intelligence and law enforcement operations, Politico Magazine reported Friday.

A partial release of some of the documents is possible, but some of the information would be blacked out.

White House spokesperson Lindsay Walters told Politico Magazine that the Trump administration was trying "to ensure that the maximum amount of data can be released to the public."

A bipartisan group lawmakers led by Sen. Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., who introduced companion resolutions, pressed Trump earlier this month to allow full public disclosure of the documents.

"Transparency in government is critical not only to ensuring accountability; it's also essential to understanding our nation's history," Grassley said in a statement. "The assassination of President Kennedy occurred at a pivotal time for our nation, and nearly 54 years later, we are still learning the details of how our government responded and what it may have known beforehand. Americans deserve a full picture of what happened that fateful day in November 1963. Shining a light on never-before-seen government records is essential to filling in these blank spaces in our history."

The documents primarily consist of CIA and FBI documents.

This is a rehash of Politico's reporting from a minor WH mouthpiece that the files might not be released. He spoke to Politco yesterday.

Today, Trump tweeted directly: "Subject to the receipt of further information, I will be allowing, as President, the long blocked and classified JFK FILES to be opened".

I don't know why you would bother to post this obviously outdated and inaccurate story.

It remains to be seen whether ALL of the files will be released.

I think it will.

Trump needs a distraction from the rather bad week he just had.

I think he needs to have other similar document dumps ready to go, some red meat to throw at the media when he wants to distract them from things like Puerto Rico or his unfortunate interactions with Gold Star families.

Thinking Trump has done anything wrong in Puerto Rico or in his interactions with Gold Star families is akin to having conspiracy theories. -- Your inability to realize that is amusing.

Yeah, yeah, sure. He covered himself with glory.

Trump doesn't like the uniform bad coverage. These are unforced errors and he knows it. And it does cost him politically. Even he has started to recognize some of the drawbacks of being a bull in a china shop.

Reading our sidebar, you'd think there is some question of that.

It was dumb to post this debunked article from Politico sources that contradicts today's statement from the WH after it was already debunked.

I'd say the only way Trump backs out of a full release now is one thing: the FBI/CIA produce evidence that brings the Mueller investigation to a quick end. For that, Trump might agree to withhold some of the JFK results until he's out of office or something similar.

As to 'covering himself with glory', --- you got me there, his bragging is idiotic. -- But hey, even you must have known that long ago, correct? Isn't carping about it equally idiotic?

Dunno. Maybe he wants to expose the Bush syndicate. Now there's a CT. :-)
