Trump Says He’ll Work With Democrats on Health Care

President plans an executive order on insurance ‘across state lines’

Here it is - This will begin the move toward "Medicare for All"

Comrade 45 lies a lot, but he did promise Universal Health Care...

"...When he was a presidential candidate in 2015, Trump told CBS's Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes that "everybody's got to be covered." He conceded that it may be an "un-Republican" thing to say, but he wanted to ensure that everyone had quality health care..."

Everybody's got to be covered ... how? Why do you assume, "... by the federal government"?

There's no need to turn the entire health care system upside down to address the needs of the 10% who are uninsured. And how many of those uninsured want to pay for health insurance?

Everybody's got to be covered ... how?

Yes, everyone must be covered.

How? A little less than half of the entire population is already covered by a plan that is paid for by tax dollars. (Federal, State, County, Municipal, military, Medicare and Medicaid.)

The other half (all of us working people) are already paying for the other half and ourselves!

Simply enroll everyone in Medicare and stop paying for private insurance. Any person of normal intelligence can understand that the cost would be far lower without including the overhead and profits of the insurance industry and big Pharma.

Why the Federal Government?

Because medical care for profit has been a gigantic failure.

Healthcare is an imperfect market. It does not behave according to free- market models. Americans access healthcare when necessary - not because they wish to.

There's no need to turn the entire health care system upside down to address the needs of the 10% who are uninsured.

It's not the 10% uninsured - It is the 48% who are already paying for 90%

Many large employers are self-insured and don't use private insurance. The rich are not insured. They pay cash. Young adults are covered under their parent's insurance. The young and healthy don't want insurance and 6 million of them paid the penalty instead. Meaning, there are many "uninsured" who want it that way.

Let me tell you about Medicare. Do you know what it covers? Medicare Part A (free) covers hospital stays. That's it. No payments to doctors, nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, specialists, etc. No medicines. No doctor visits. No tests. No therapy.

If you want those things covered, you have to sign up and pay the government for Medicare Part B coverage. Prescription drug coverage? You have to sign up and pay the government for Medicare Part D coverage. Then start filling out government forms to eventually get reimbursed.

Or, if you're smart, you sign up (and pay) for Part C which authorizes a private insurance company of your choosing to provide all these benefits and THEY bill the government under Medicare.

These private companies compete for your business by lowering costs and adding benefits.

Extremely rare - Self-insured means the company essentially pays a large deductible in exchange for lower rates - they're gambling that claims will be low and their expense will be lower than a traditional plan.

I have a very good grasp of how medicare works and the costs involved. This approach will still work.

I know lots of rich folks. I know several VERY rich people. I personally know a professional athlete who is worth several hundred million dollars. They all purchase health insurance.

I will suggest that the overwhelming majority of those who "pay the penalty" instead of purchasing health insurance - do so because the penalty is far less costly than coverage.

"..private companies compete for your business by lowering costs and adding benefits..."

I have been involved in annual renewals for group insurance coverage for over 20 years. Rates and benefits have never improved. It gets worse every year.

In the USA, our health insurance market exists not to promote good health or assure good quality care for our citizens. It exists to turn a profit - at the expense of those whom are paying for coverage.

Self-insured means they pay nothing to an insurance company. The employer IS the insurance company and pays all the claims itself.

"I will suggest that the overwhelming majority of those who "pay the penalty" instead of purchasing health insurance - do so because the penalty is far less costly than coverage."

The penalty is far less costly than coverage plus the deductible. If an individual is paying $300 per month in health insurance premiums and has a $9,000 deductible, he's paying $12,600 per year before his insurance kicks in.

"It exists to turn a profit - at the expense of those whom are paying for coverage."

I should hope so. When it doesn't, it pulls out of the market. And we see that happening all over under Obamacare.
