(CNN)Returning from a high-dollar fundraiser in Manhattan on Tuesday evening, an infuriated President Donald Trump watched aboard Air Force One as Fox News called the Alabama Senate primary for Roy Moore against Trump's favored candidate, Luther Strange.

What ensued was a barrage of angry venting at his political team and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had consolidated establishment GOP support behind Strange.

Trump, officials and informal advisers say, felt misled by McConnell and his political team, who encouraged him to endorse and campaign for Strange.

Even before Strange's loss on Tuesday, Trump expressed misgivings about getting behind the candidate, who he deemed too "low energy." Trump fretted the endorsement made him appear weak, cowed by an establishment that he'd openly rebuffed during his own campaign.

His concerns were only exacerbated by the endorsement of Moore by his former chief strategist Steve Bannon, who made a highly visible push for Moore as the anti-GOP-establishment candidate.

But Trump felt beholden to Strange, who has supported his agenda during his few months in the Senate. His decision, according to a person familiar, was not made entirely at McConnell's request.

Trump "knew it was a mistake but one he was willing to make because Luther was loyal," said a senior White House official.

Following Strange's loss, Trump felt he was proven right and his team had largely failed him.

He went to bed "embarrassed and pissed" following the election loss, according to a person familiar with his mindset. Trump, multiple sources said, is furious with McConnell, and feels outdone by his former aide Bannon.

It is only the latest in growing list of reasons Trump is furious at McConnell. Inside the White House, fingers are being pointed at Ward Baker, a McConnell strategist, and Nick Ayers, the vice president's chief of staff, both of whom were involved in pushing Trump to back Strange, according to sources.

"Losing is bad for his brand," another GOP adviser to the White House said of Trump.

One person Trump has not appeared to blame: himself.

Late Tuesday, Trump sought to erase his backing of Strange, deleting a series of tweets encouraging Alabamans to vote for the Republican senator.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Spoke to Roy Moore of Alabama last night for
the first time. Sounds like a really great guy who
ran a fantastic race. He will help to #MAGA!
5:56 AM - Sep 27, 2017

He replaced them with congratulations to Roy Moore: "Spoke to Roy Moore of Alabama last night for the first time. Sounds like a really great guy who ran a fantastic race. He will help to #MAGA!" Trump wrote.

Strange, he wrote, "started way back & ran a good race."

Trump is a LOSER.

Trump is mired in the deep state. If he's a loser, that's the reason why. Remember when he endorsed McCain? There's no other reason for it and given McCain's blocking Obamacare repeal, I don't expect it will happen again.

Trump does need to come out of the swamp. It is true he is still in it but not quite over his head.

Trump is mired in the deep state...

Trump does need to come out of the swamp. It is true he is still in it but not quite over his head.

That's is one ambivalent and infinitely complicated statement.

Dunno if you've been reading any of my explanation, Ping, but Trump IS mired in the Deep State -- only your context isn't what may think.

The be clear, you believe Trump is a willing participant and PART OF The Swamp machination??

Not a willing participant, but when you take a job that puts you in charge of a massive bureaucratic machine with lifelong participants that are used to doing their job a certain way, including feeding you pro-deep-state information, you should not overestimate the power your position gives you to rectify the situation. Sure you can fire department heads, but who will you replace them with? 95% of the time it will be some junior executive that at most would be only marginally different from the prior head.

Psychologically and practically it would be an enormous task for a new president with a fresh agenda to impose it upon the masses of "deep state" personnel that surrounds the position. This would be especially true for someone like Trump, who probably is (or was) somewhat naive about it as he doubtless had patriotic faith in the system. But even underlings have a lot of power over the presidency, simply because of their sheer numbers.

But Trump is smart and I expect/hope that the longer he spends in the presidency and gains experience, the more he'll come to realize the true nature of the situation he is in, and the more likely he will be, at some point, to wake up, smell the coffee, and start kicking some serious ass.

Will that actually happen? I can only hope.

Like Trump, I was hoping "The Swamp" wasn't as deeply and widely infested infected as is now clearly the case.

No doubt he over-estimated the Office of Presidency -- or rather, the machination that was and is easily able to obstruct MAGA while tearing the USCON to shreds.

He also didn't realize that so many were groomed for 'Swamp' careers instead of actual business careers; And that instead of himself in the usual CEO model, ONLY 'The Swamp' would have the power to pick and choose -- and only out of their own fetid pool. I think we've all been surprised at how 'The Swamp' is run like the Mafia. OR Union.

Psychologically and practically it would be an enormous task for a new president with a fresh agenda to impose it upon the masses of "deep state" personnel that surrounds the position.

Your observations get an AMEN! outta me. This is Mission Impossible. His faith in the system was put through the ringer...as were many of us.

Once we saw one pipsqueak judge after another obstruct his immediate moratorium on Muzzies without so much as a single finger of support from the GOPe, he AND we knew the number of globalist-first creatures 0bama inundated our bureaucracy with was going to deter MAGA.

But Trump is smart and I expect/hope that the longer he spends in the presidency and gains experience, the more he'll come to realize the true nature of the situation he is in, and the more likely he will be, at some point, to wake up, smell the coffee, and start kicking some serious ass. I wish this were the case. DT is very smart, but no one could have predicted the fedgoob was more interested in participating in a Coup and creating a YUGE Banana Republic in order to retain their positions and power rather than serving in what used to be a Democratic Republic.

I believe the coffee IS being smelled. BURNT coffee. But it doesn't matter. The Oval Office is toofless, and soft-Coup in effect. (Just my opinion.)
