Title: President Trump Bets On Big Loser, Cannot Fill Seats In Alabama For Luther Strange Rally

Once again, President Donald Trump was played for a sap by the GOP establishment. After endorsing Sen. Mitch McConnell’s crony Luther Strange against his hard-right constitutional challenger last month, Trump is now planning to stump for Strange this Friday. There is only one problem though: Nobody is showing up to hear Trump’s doublespeak.

White House officials told Breitbart News that they are having trouble filling up a large venue on behalf of Strange, the establishment crony who was appointed to his position in the U.S. Senate by disgraced former Gov. Robert Bentley. Organizers are downsizing to a smaller venue than Trump’s 2016 rally, which packed in over 30,000 people, to the Von Braun Center in Huntsville which seats fewer than 10,000.

Making Trump look even more foolish, White House aides believe that many in attendance will be there to shout slogans on behalf of Strange’s challenger, former Alabama supreme court justice Roy Moore. Moore is known for defying the federal SCOTUS on key issues pertaining to religious freedom, such as homosexual marriage and showing the Ten Commandments in public spaces.

“We have concerns that there may not be a high amount of turnout at the rallies for Strange and we are concerned that some of those that may show up may be there to shout pro-Roy Moore slogans–or that they just want to see the president and vice president but still plan to vote for Roy Moore,” a White House aide said to Breitbart reporters. “Translating this into votes for Luther Strange is going to be very difficult, if not impossible.”

Vice President Mike Pence will be joining Trump to push for Strange this week as well, as the full-court press is on for the administration to do McConnell’s bidding. If they are successful in their efforts, Trump and Pence will have effectively stabbed each of their grassroots supports of Alabama in the back–all to curry favor with McConnell and other reviled swamp rats of the Washington D.C. sewer.

This embarrassing display is also indicative of a nationwide trend of Trump supporters growing weary with his false promises. As Trump shifts on immigration and healthcare while working directly with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (R-CA), fewer Americans are interested in raising pompoms on his behalf. The Mother of All Rallies, hosted by Trump supporters in Washington D.C. this past weekend, was a national punchline where clueless, desperate organizers even gave Black Lives Matter the microphone and a platform to speak.

Rather than listening to the likes of McConnell, Pelosi and Schumer, Trump should be listening to the voices that put him in the White House. But with those people long-gone from the administration and Trump’s handlers such as Chief of Staff John Kelly and national security advisor H.R. McMaster in complete control of the out-to-lunch president, it is looking more probable that Trump will never reach a second term in the oval office.

I've been checking out this startup site lately. They have a stable of around 25 young writers, very opinionated, more Trumpy than Trump himself on some issues.

It's a WordPress site with Disqus comments system.

If nothing else, their banner graphic is a real hoot.

President Trump Bets On Big Loser, Cannot Fill Seats In Alabama For Luther Strange Rally

I think Trump and McConnell worked a deal where Trump would back the establishment's Luther Strange and McConnell would give Trump ... something. Trump accepted since he knew his guy, Roy Moore, was a shoe-in. Win-win for Trump.

I think they twisted Trump's arm to play party leader with the 2018 midterms in mind. If Trump won't help the swamp creature crony, Strange, the Senate GOP up for re-election in 2018 won't trust him to back them.

This is party politics at its rawest. Trump isn't just the president, he's the party leader even if he doesn't like the party all that much.

Nah. All the Senators have to do is vote Trump's way and they'll get his support in 2018.

It's 2020 they should be worried about. If Trump doesn't start doing something, he won't be around to support anyone.

They only want loyalty from Trump, not to give any loyalty to Trump.

The class of 2018 will not be running in 2020. So...2020 doesn't matter to the class of 2018 at all and the class of 2020 isn't worried enough yet about whether being pro-Trump or anti-Trump is more advantageous.

These congresscritters are shallow selfish creatures, interested in their own appetites and needs.

I'm sensing in these reports that it could go from Moore by 8 points to a real rout, like Strange losing by 15%-20%. Trump would be speechless. He might not even tweet about it.

We shouldn't forget that in every single race in 2016, every GOP candidate outperformed Trump. Even where we lost Senate seats like NH, Ayotte still ran ahead of Trump even though she lost. And Trump complained constantly about the GOP, especially the elected congresscritters.

Trump isn't really a Republican even if he is the head of the party and identifies as a Republican. It isn't clear that Trump has a very solid notion of what a Republican is other than something like "I like X so X must be a Republican thing". This race is a direct test of that. And Trump was not wise to let himself be put in this position by Mitch the Turtle and the other swamp things.

If Luther Strange does not look and behave exactly like a swamp creature, I don't know what qualifies. Strange is the swamp personified.

Looked like a packed and energetic crowd to me. But these lyin' eyes of mine, I don't know.

It was a third the size of the crowd he drew last year in the same city. So a decline of 66% in Trump's ability to draw a crowd in Huntsville is obviously a sign of his popularity.

If Trump could have filled a bigger stadium, no doubt he would have booked one.

I think Strange will go down in flames to a humiliating defeat. This race and the behavior of the principals and their surrogates and the general tone of coverage across the Right media sector indicates that.

Of course, Roy Moore remains a pretty lousy choice, having grandstanded himself out of a job as chief justice of the AL supremes due to his unlawful installation in the dark of night of his own chosen monument in the supreme court building, damaging the expensive marble floors in the process. And the same can be said of Strange. Strange is obviously corrupt and no voter could conclude otherwise. Neither of them has the integrity and reputation of Sessions. Alabama could do so much better than either of them but I guess that is the choice they ended up with.

Moore was elected to the position of Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court in 2001, but removed from his position in November 2003 by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary for refusing to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments commissioned by him from the Alabama Judicial Building, despite orders to do so by a federal court. Moore sought the Republican nomination for the governorship of Alabama in 2006, but lost to incumbent Bob Riley in the June primary by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. He sought the Republican nomination for the office again in 2010,[1] but placed fourth in the Republican primary.

Moore was again elected Chief Justice in 2013, but was suspended in May 2016, for directing probate judges to continue to enforce the state's ban on same-sex marriage despite the fact that it had been overturned. Following an unsuccessful appeal, Moore resigned in April 2017, and announced that he would be running for the United States Senate seat which was vacated by Jeff Sessions, upon his confirmation as Attorney General of the United States.

How about Moore's wife and son?

Moore's wife, Kayla, is the President of the Foundation for Moral Law, which Roy founded. His son Caleb works there as well, and was identified in 2012 tax returns as its Executive Director. Arrested for possession of Xanax and marijuana on March 15, 2015, Caleb paid a $900 fine and was granted pretrial diversion after promising to enter drug rehab, despite three prior drug convictions, and three Driving Under the Influence arrests since 2011, in Alabama and Florida. "I must admit, the things people are saying about me on social media are for the most part true. I do have a past that I'm not proud of. Thank God for salvation and changing my life," he posted on Facebook. Blaming others after his arrest, Caleb wrote, "the media and crooked police officers and critics of my dad try to not only destroy his career for what he stands for but will go as far as trying to destroy his family."[112][113][114] On November 25, 2016, he was arrested for the eighth time in five years, for hunting over bait and hunting without permission of the property owner.[115]

I can't blame Mitch the Turtle for not wanting a turd like Moore in the Senate GOP caucus. This goes way beyond the Not-A-Witch and other problematic GOP Senate candidates. I'm surprised that Moore hasn't been disbarred but apparently the AL bar association is incredibly lenient.

It was a third the size of the crowd he drew last year in the same city.

Last year in the same city HE was running. Do you expect Trump to draw the same campaign-size crowds no matter why he's there?

What kind of crowd did he draw in Texas when he visited after Hurricane Harvey? Was it smaller than the crowd during the campaign? Oh, what a failure, huh?

"I think Strange will go down in flames to a humiliating defeat."

I do, too. But that's no reflection on Trump.

"I'm surprised that Moore hasn't been disbarred ..."

As though Trump doesn't have enough controversy going on, he's supposed to hitch his wagon to that star? Why? Moore's going to win anyways.

Unfortunately, this election will have a winner elected to the Senate.

I'd prefer that the Senate refuse to seat either of them but Strange already was admitted as a full-blown Swamp Thing. Perhaps that is his primary qualification for Mitch The Turtle's GOP caucus.

There was quite a large crowd in that venue. My family lives about 4 miles from there, and said it was over flowing with people. That place is the size of an NBA arena, as I personally was there in May of 2016. I would estimate it holds 20,000+.

The Von Braun Center is a 10,000 seat venue according to their own website so your estimate is way off.

Gorka: Trump Was Pressured to Endorse 'Swamp Dweller' Strange

Gorka said that Trump endorsed Strange because he's been under pressure by people like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). (Called it in my post #2.)

I heard Gorka was going to get some job cooked up for him in some agency because Kelly and others wanted him out of the WH. They gave J.T. McFarland that ambassadorship (Singapore?) but I think Gorka is out now and I'm not even sure he got a gig at a thinktank or his old slot at Fox News back.

Obviously, Gorka isn't working at the WH any more.

I think they know their own lawful capacity. But make up whatever you like if it makes you feel better.

Hey, maybe they had 200,000 people in that 10,000 capacity arena. Now you can really feel good.
