Title: Report: Trump Reluctant to Campaign in Alabama — But Swamp Fears Domino Effect if Luther Strange Defeated

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his gang of establishment Republicans implored President Donald Trump to campaign for establishment Republican Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL) against conservative frontrunner Roy Moore, the former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice, because they reportedly are terrified that more grassroots candidates across the country will challenge establishment Republicans if Moore defeats Strange on Tuesday.

Moore has led in every poll leading up to Tuesday’s runoff in what has been described as the “first proxy battle” between Trump and his former Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, who has vowed to support the economic nationalist agenda that got Trump elected in the first place.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and former White House adviser Sebastian Gorka will campaign for Moore on Thursday. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will campaign for Strange on Friday and Monday, respectively.

According to the Washington Post, Trump’s advisers “were deeply divided on whether” Trump “should risk jetting to Alabama to prop up” Strange. But GOP establishment forces reportedly waged “an intense behind-the-scenes campaign to convince Trump that he could carry Strange across the finish line with an appearance in Alabama.”

Though White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was reportedly hesitant about sending Trump to Alabama to potentially waste his political capital, establishment Senate Republicans were “unwilling to let the president turn his attention elsewhere” because they worried that a Strange defeat “could prompt some GOP senators to retire to avoid facing the wrath of anti-establishment voters and the likes of Bannon’s Breitbart News,” according to the Post’s Bob Costa.

He points out that Strange’s establishment consultant Jeff Roe “fed regular updates to Jared Kushner” while establishment consultant Ward Baker, who advises a pro-McConnell super PAC that has reportedly “poured more than $8 million into Alabama to support Strange,” updated Trump and Pence. Pence loyalist Kellyanne Conway reportedly “impressed upon Trump how much power his visit could have in Alabama and reminded him that all five of the candidates he backed in special elections this year won.” And establishment Republican Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), who just recently openly questioned Trump’s fitness to be president that in turn got him plenty of plaudits from the legacy press and vicious Never Trumpers, also begged Trump to campaign for Strange.

“You’ve got to go,” Corker reportedly told Trump, according to the Post. “We need you there.”

The Post reported that Moore has become a “darling to Trump’s base,” especially after, as U.S. News & World Report noted, “Bannon and his like-minded nationalists lieutenants at Breitbart have watched Trump’s centrist turn with great unease.” Since Bannon left the White House, Trump has caved on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), made deals with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), increased the country’s troop levels in Afghanistan, and has contemplated not completely withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord.

“Alabama sent Donald Trump to the White House. It all started in Alabama when Jeff Sessions joined Donald Trump at a rally in Mobile in 2015 and said, ‘Welcome to my hometown.’ Now Alabama has a chance to send a wake-up call back to Washington and say to President Trump, ‘It’s time to right the ship,'” a Bannon confidante told U.S. News, which noted that “Bannon sees his most compelling point of influence to be an election that rocks the president back to reality.”

“Trump was messenger of the movement, But the movement is stronger than the president. That’s what people in Alabama are going to show next week,” the Bannon confidante reportedly added.

In other Breitbart news on Strange:

. . .

Strange’s campaign did not respond to messages from Breitbart News.

The Senator’s evasiveness is notable because top Senate Democrats — including New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and California Rep. Nancy Pelosi — are pushing President Donald Trump to accept their unpopular Dream Act legislation without offering any exchange, such as a border wall, penalties on employers who hire illegals or passage of the popular merit-immigration RAISE Act.

The DACA issue blew up September 13 when the two Democrats declared that Trump had agreed to accept a DACA amnesty without getting funds for a border wall.

The cost of the Dream Act is far bigger than the Democrats or their media allies admit. Instead of covering 690,000 younger illegals now enrolled in former President Barack Obama’s 2012 “DACA” amnesty, the Dream Act would legalize at least 3.3 million illegals, according to a pro-immigration group, the Migration Policy Institute.

Once provided with amnesty and citizenship, the 3.3 million illegals would be able to get Obamacare grants — at an estimated cost of roughly $115 billion per decade —  and also sponsor many of their foreign-based relatives to join them in the United States, so inflating the scale and cost of the amnesty.

Strange’s silence on the issue has prompted critics to say he has quietly agreed to support the amnesty, which is backed by a large swath of companies who stand to gain from the increased inflow of immigrants, who double as cheap workers and welfare-aided consumers.
Scoop – Luther Strange has agreed to back DACA legislation, which is why Senate Leadership Fund gave him $780,000. He's pro-amnesty.

For example, the amnesty is boosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has endorsed Strange. The companies pushing for the DACA amnesty include Walmart and Target. Walmart has more than 130 stores in the state, and Target has at least five stores. Both firms profit from the growing immigrant population in the state.

The state is home to roughly 150,000 immigrants, both legal and illegal, who are working in roughly 84,000 jobs. Fewer than 2,000 of these legal and illegal migrants work as agricultural workers, while at least 35,000 are working middle-class jobs in construction or the food sector, or as teachers, according to a pro-immigration lobbying group founded by billionaire Mike Bloomberg.

The number of DACA illegals in the state is roughly 4,300, but many similar-aged illegals would be eligible for the bigger Dream Act amnesty.

In July, at least 96,251 unemployed Alabamans were looking for jobs.  Many other state residents have given up looking for jobs.

The inflow of extra foreign workers helps keep wages low in the state. In December 2016, for example, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported:
[The] average weekly wages advanced in five of Alabama’s largest counties from the second quarter of 2015 to the second quarter of 2016. Shelby’s 2.8-percent wage increase ranked 107th among the nation’s 344 largest counties and was the only large county in Alabama to rank in the top third of the national ranking. Average weekly wage growth in Alabama’s four other large counties ranged from 2.3 to 0.1 percent. (See table 1.) … When all 67 counties in Alabama were considered, 23 reported average weekly wages under $650, 24 had wages from $650-$749, 12 had wages from $750-$849, and 8 had wages above $850.

When serving at the state’s Attorney General in 2011, Strange sought to weaken the state’s draft HB 56 law curbing the employment of illegal immigrants. He initially failed, but when Obama’s federal government later sued the state to stop enforcement of the law, Strange used his power as Attorney General in October 2013 to stop defending the law and allow most of it to be eliminated.

Reportedly, Strange also has a one-sixth share in a company which effectively trades EB-5  visas and green cards to wealthy Chinese people who want to live in the United States. On September 19, his campaign staff told WHNT that “Luther agrees with the Trump administration that there are serious concerns over the EB-5 visa program, which is not being used as originally intended. It’s time for Congress to get to work on these issues.” The Strange statement did not propose to eliminate the often-criticized EB-5 program.

Strange's involvement and personal profiteering from the EB-5 visas along with the voters' knowledge that he blackmailed the corrupt AL governor into appointing him to the vacant Senate seat is likely to cook his goose.

If Strange is defeated, Bannon's stock goes way up as a power broker. If Strange wins, Bannon is cast into the outer darkness.

Moore will trounce Strange.

I think so too.

I think Bannon/Breitbart along with Moore allies are poisoning the water for Strange, not that it would take much.

Here's a sample:

Washington Examiner: Suspicions dog Sen. Luther Strange in Alabama special election

And no sane person would say that the voters are wrong to be suspicious of Strange's record.

I was wondering if Trump would have some sudden emergency and stay out of Alabama entirely. But it seems the Swamp talked him into going to the Strange rally. I think Trump's advisers are telling him that he has to go so that other GOP Senate candidates don't start to think he'll abandon them in 2018 if the going gets tough. So Trump may feel he has to take one for the GOP team to maintain their confidence in him as GOP party leader. He can't like that, given how all those people treated him throughout his own run. Especially for a candidate that looks so likely to lose. Donald likes losers even less than POWs, as we know.
