The NFL is praying for a ratings turnaround

s the NFL kicks off Week 3 with “Thursday Night Football,” team owners, TV networks and Madison Avenue are hoping it can turn around an early-season ratings dip.

Ratings in Weeks 1 and 2 were down 12 and 15 percent, respectively, according to Nielsen.

To be sure, saturation TV coverage of Hurricane Irma sapped some eyeballs from football during the first week of play.

Still, nine of the 13 NFL windows in the season-to-date posted viewership declines, Sports Media Watch reported.

“Week 2 might have still been disrupted by carryover impacts from the hurricanes that hit Houston and Florida,” UBS analyst Doug Mitchelson offered by way of explanation.

Jefferies analyst John Janedis drilled down further and estimated a 10 percent ratings drop for the season would cost game-carrying networks — CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC — $200 million in lost operating income.

So far, CBS has been the hardest hit in total viewers, a different measure than ratings points. Its two Sunday afternoon games averaged 13.9 million viewers — down 10 percent from last year.

NBC’s three primetime games have averaged 22.1 million viewers, down 7 percent, while Fox’s four Sunday games — two in early afternoon and two in late afternoon — attracted 5 percent fewer viewers, as have ESPN’s broadcasts of “Monday Night Football.”

As we've witnessed of SJW Late Night "Comedy," TV and movie fare that are LOSING MONEY, profits are gladly sacrificed in order to advance THE agenda(s).

The last bastion to fall are professional sports.

The NFL by promoting PINK MONTH (Feminizing the masculine disguised as "Cancer Awareness"), Black NFL Players demand the Commish ENDORSE "kneeling," and now baseball 'Gay Day' exposes the entire political-corporate collusion and subversive of America's traditional institutes.

The memes of "White Privilege," "Toxic Masculinity," celebrating Abortion, and censorship of all speech critical of the Left's Insanity are de rigor...and gaining momentum.

Scrape way the outer scab and we'll find pro-Globalist Homofascist-Atheists and Occultists leading the satanic charge of 0bama's original "Hope & Change" bearing much fruit -- ALL of it rotten and maggot-infested.

It is a business. They can't spin empty seats and declining viewership. The college game last week between USC and Texas, in the same stadium used by the Rams, outdrew the Rams and Charger combined.

They can easily end in-game demonstrations with a 15-yard penalty strictly enforced. Two and you're gone, just like a red card in soccer.

Colin Kaepernick cost the league owners a bunch of money. Attendance and ratings are still falling. Advertising revenue is tied to viewership. Rebates are given for failing to meet promised numbers.

corporate sponsors ... will be continue running their ads -- despite losing money and viewrship.

At a reduced rate. When viewership goes down, the ad costs less to run. That is money out of the owner's pocket.

The whole SJW meme was to attract more women to the game. Did not work. The women who are die hard fans like my cousins were football fans for over 20 years and hate the changes as much as the men.

Plus college football always will out perform in filled seats where I live.

Most of the Jerry World seats at AT&T stadium for Cowboys games are corporate vendor owned or season tickets. Regular Joes can't afford to pay for multiple games let alone season tickets.

Savvy observation on the SJW meme to attract more women to the game. At the expense of feminizing it. AND the players. Making them accessorize hot pink was beyond absurd and waaay over the top.

Right...the older female fans like your cousins dislike the new SJW theme. Maybe one reason they dislike it is because they feel their intelligence is insulted over this obvious manipulation.

ARE newer female/effete fans are supposed to find the feminizing of the NFL more attractive to be a fan? OR... was the supposed "marketing" ruse actually a means to an end -- calculated to making a less masculine game be more accepting to eventual open homosexuality in the NFL as well as all pro sports? (trickling down to College as well as HS??)

We also watched the military become radically feminized during the 0bama-Years (Am I wrong?) Coincidence?

That gesture alone wouldn't necessarily indicate a conscious "marketing plan" would it?

The SJW Propaganda/Marketing started gingerly in October...with a few pink accessories. By the end, nearly every vestige of the game and part of the uniform was hot pink -- INCLUDING First Down Markers.

When other players tried wearing OTHER "colors" in tribute to OTHER cancers, the NFL fined them.

Yes, the Pretty in Pink and replacing Hank Williams, Jr. with a female was part of a deliberate marketing campaign to enlarge the NFL audience. A larger audience translates to more money per advertising minute.

Women have breasts and most people have a momma.

It is harder to sell a mediocre whack-job in pig socks.
