President Donald Trump’s highly anticipated speech outlining his war policy in Afghanistan pleased those wishing for an escalation in the region in order to declare victory, but others were not as enthused. Many of the president’s supporters took to Twitter to register their displeasure with what they saw as an endorsement of his predecessor’s “endless war.” Right-wing firebrand and enthusiastic Trump supporter Ann Coulter tweeted that Trump had become a “threat” to his own re-election because he was sending, “More Troops to Useless Human-Grinder in Afghanistan.” Whereas I see Trump as a threat to his re-election. No matter what Trump did, people would bitch. I figure he's got better information than I do, and I trust him to do the right thing for America. Period.
We have an assortment of presidents: McMaster, Trump's daughter and her husband Jarhead, Tillerson, and everybody but Trump. Trump is not up to the job and too many other people have influence upon him. We're stuck with group rule and being destroyed by a bunch of self-serving, half witted, mouthy, teenagers.
And we are no closer to knowing what successful military mission would lead a victory and an end to the eternal war looking for a defined and attainable military goal. If the goal is supporting military hardware manufacturers, it is a success. The speech was a steaming turd.
Trump's legacy: Maintaining America's longest, most useless war in American history.
There simply is no there there. What do we hope to win? Afghanistan is another Vietnam. Even if you win, you lose.
Next year, a baby born when the United States first invaded Afghanistan can sign up to eventually fight and die there.
