Gun rights advocates have said for years that you will never remove firearms from the streets. This is a fact perfectly illustrated by the Paris terrorist attacks in both 2015 and earlier this year. In both assaults, terrorists were able to get their hands on fully automatic weapons and unleash havoc on unsuspecting people.
But what if the gun control advocates had a way to make sure they could get every single gun in this country not in police or military hands? What if they could guarantee that they could take every gun off our streets?
For most Second Amendment advocates, it wouldnt matter, but lets play with this idea for a bit to make a broader point.
In 1998, a British subject named P.A. Luty decided to illustrate the fallacy of complete civilian disarmament by building a weapon that lacked any of the registered parts of the firearm.
Recently, the YouTube channel Forgotten Weapons got a chance to take a look at the result, a submachine gun built entirely with parts that could be picked up at the hardware store.
As noted in the video, Luty ended up spending some time in a British prison for his efforts, as would people who were caught with such weapons in pretty much any other nation on Earth.
Yet Luty proved his point.
Since his book was first published, such firearms have shown up in Australia, Indonesia, and many other places.
Some might argue that Luty is responsible for a self-fulfilling prophecy, that the only reason he was right was because he dropped the plans in the criminals laps. Unfortunately, that would only be true of Lutys designs were the only option. After all, hasnt the zip gun been around for ages?
None of this takes into account the tooling existing in some backyard shops these days. Metal lathes, milling machines, and 3D printers all can be useful in building far more sophisticated firearms that Lutys effective but almost prehistoric design.
In other words, guns are definitely here to stay. Try as the leftist gun control advocates might, theyll never be able to get all of the weapons. Even if they did, though, guns would still be produced for illegal purposes.
Maybe, instead of tripping over themselves to strip ordinary Americans of their right to keep and bear arms, their time would be better served by looking for the causes for crime in the first place and addressing that.
Of course, that doesnt give the average gun control advocate the opportunity to pontificate on their superiority because they are terrified of an object with no will of its own, as opposed to the lawful gun owners of this nation who simply look at their weapons as tools that can be used for good or evil just like any other. Since thats probably a good bit of the motivation behind the antics of gun control groups anyway, its unlikely theyll listen and stop.

useful argument, gun gun control advocates don't want to remove guns entirely, just keep them out of the hands of criminals and the insane. I live in a place where you have to have a good reason for owning a gun, this doesn't mean there are no guns in the community, nor does it mean criminals don't have guns, only yesterday a raid on a criminal organisation produced a banned semi automatic weapon among others. The point being that if criminals can import tonnes of drugs they can import weapons.
The reality is the only way to stop the trade is to limit the production and distribution thereby shrinking the market, however prohibition has not worked for alcohol or drugs so why would it work for weapons? One wonders why there is such a market when so many "criminals" are locked up and the reason might be the wrong people are locked up, or some of them. Lock up the drug dealers but put the drug users to work in the community and keep them out of prison. I think Duturte has the right idea, summary execution for the dealer who afterall is peddling misery and degradation.
Petty crime comes out of poverty, always has, no news there. But how do you address poverty without fueling the problem. It comes down to changing the way government operates and I know I will get an argument when I say Laissee Faire democracy doesn't work, it leaves too many people behind, and in these days of raising AI it will leave more behind year by year until few will have gainful employment and there will be more anger and more misery. The way to address poverty is to abolish money and allow everyone to have what they need provided at government expense, the initial cost will be high but everything will settle down and petty crime will vanish, the market for drugs will be destroyed because noone will have the ability to purchase drugs

It was interesting. I had forgotten Luty all these years later and I just thought some gun folk might be interested in recounting how he assembled the gun from legal parts. The video had a lot of good details overall, the text of the article was kinda blasé.

No, real gun control advocates do want to remove all guns. Don't be taken in by their rhetoric. Any time they get the chance, that is exactly what they do.
Luty focused more on demonstrating there is no way in free countries with advanced technology to stop people from making their own very lethal weapons. The technology is laying around everywhere. Crooks and political radicals will always have the means to produce their own weapons if they can't buy them or smuggle them or steal them.
