Title: Trump allegedly told golf-club members: "That White House is a real dump"

Yeah, I know. “Anonymous sources! FAKE NEWS!” Hopefully the president knows better than to tell anyone that the country’s most storied home, where Lincoln managed the Civil War and FDR oversaw Hitler’s downfall, is a “dump.” Remember, though, the guy’s a billionaire who used to live in a Manhattan penthouse; his standard of living is higher than most new presidents’. And if Golf Magazine is to believed, he made this comment to members at one of his clubs — i.e. other very wealthy people. When you’re that rich and talking to a bunch of millionaires, you practically have to call the White House a dump compared to what you’re used to, just to keep up appearances.

Plus, don’t forget: The White House is government housing built on a swamp. It’s a dump practically by definition.
During election season, Bedminster morphed into a kind of permanent campaign rally site. Trump posters and bumper stickers were plastered across the property, and an anti-Hillary shrine was built in a bar in the men’s locker room. The club held a Ryder Cup–style competition in which the teams wore either red or black make america great again hats. At most other golf courses in America the TV is tuned to Golf Channel, on mute, but throughout last summer and fall, the television in Trump Bedminster’s shop was on Fox News, with the sound blaring. As President, Trump has already made four visits to the club. He has his own cottage adjacent to the pool; it was recently given a secure perimeter by the Secret Service, leading to the inevitable joke that it’s the only wall Trump has successfully built. Chatting with some members before a recent round of golf, he explained his frequent appearances: “That White House is a real dump.” Trump is often at his most unguarded among the people who pay for their proximity to him. Last November, the President-elect hosted a cocktail reception and dinner at Bedminster on the same weekend that he was holding interviews at the club with candidates for his Cabinet. At the dinner, Trump addressed the members of the club by saying, “This is my real group. You are the special people. I see all of you. I recognize, like, 100% of you, just about.” Then he issued an open invitation to drop in on his Cabinet interviews the next day.

I bet the White House doesn’t even have a classy gold-plated toilet, like certain unnamed hyper-gilded New York towers undoubtedly do. Needless to say, if Obama was alleged to have made this comment — even by anonymous sources — we in conservative media would have spent this week shattin’ in our pantaloons, to borrow a phrase from the future senator from Michigan. As it is, it’ll be fun if Trump lets the story linger for 24 hours and then confirms it, just to watch the spin shift from “he’d never say something like this” to “of course it’s a dump.” A key part of the debate to come:
Trump’s demeaning of Priebus came through in other ways, too. At one point, during a meeting in the Oval Office, a fly began buzzing overhead, distracting the president. As the fly continued to circle, Trump summoned his chief of staff and tasked him with killing the insect, according to someone familiar with the incident. (The West Wing has a regular fly problem.)

It’s a dump, and I think we all know who’s to blame. That’ll be another key part of the debate.

Exit question: Why didn’t he keep Scaramooch around to class the joint up a bit, fancy-like, with renovations? He’s a fabulously rich Manhattanite too. He would have known how to realize a tasteful “Louis XIV by way of Saddam” look.

I just thought it was hilarious.

And Trump probably does think it's a dump, compared to his usual hangouts.

He has tried to say nice things about the WH, some months back, saying how so many things in the WH were unique historical items and that it couldn't be compared to any other piece of real estate.

And we shouldn't forget that for much of its existence, the WH has been kind of a dump. Hell, Abe Lincoln kept chickens and barnyard animals there, some inside the house.

Isn't it true that after Michelle moved in she said, "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of the White House"?

No, it's not.

Newsweek:

Before the Wisconsin primary in mid-February, Michelle Obama made a remark that Republicans will use to hammer her husband should he win the Democratic nomination. "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback," she said. Almost immediately, Cindy McCain told reporters, "I have and always will be proud of my country." Both Michelle and her husband tried to explain that what she really meant was that was proud to see so many people turn out to vote. But a lot of voters did and will wonder: how could someone who graduated from Princeton and Harvard Law School and won a job at a high-paying Chicago law firm—who was in some way a beneficiary of affirmative action—sound so alienated from her country?

It is pretty droll.

Why the hell does Trump have that stand full of Keurig coffee pods always on the desk behind his office? And I've never yet seen any of them missing, like no one ever drinks any of them. And I don't see the Keurig machine itself and looked for it during the great MLK-bust-is-missing scandal when Trump first moved in.

I'm starting to think Trump bought a bunch of Keurig stock and he's trying to pump up the price.

I'm telling you, you can't see a pic of the desk in the Oval Office without seeing Keurig's fancy pod stand behind it. That's some premium product placement there.

And where the hell is the actual Keurig coffee maker? Where are the cups? Does Trump hand these pods out as Attaboy awards to the staff and then they go somewhere else to find a cup and to put the pod in a Keurig machine?

I know it's petty but this has actually been bugging me for months. LOL

Simple. The machine and cups are on the other side of the room. But if you want want want a cup of covfefe, you have to get past Trump to get the pod.

"For that matter, why don't we ever see even one pod missing from the pod stand?"

No one has succeeded.

Simple. The machine and cups are on the other side of the room.

But during the great scandal of The Missing MLK Bust (which was there all along but a Secret Service guy was standing in front of it when the press was there and the black reporter started bitching that Churchill was back but MLK was missing), we saw video of the room. And no Keurig was visible.

I've wondered if Trump may have hidden a Keurig in a side door of the Reagan desk.

Everyone always puts the pods next to the machine. Except in the Oval Office, it seems.

I never thought of a Trump co-branding coffee operation. If there were Trump Steaks, why not Trump Coffee. But you did out-sleuth me.

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Select-Trump-Resort-Coffee-Single-Cup/dp/B00N8CKFG6?th=1

However, looking at the above photo of Trump standing by his Oval Office pods, the lids of the pods are the wrong color for Trump Select pods (red, black, blue, light beige). So I don't think that Donald put Trump Select pods into the pod stand behind his desk. Something about the labels looks like Starbucks or Keurig pods.

Before anyone orders a bunch of the linked Trump pods, keep in mind these were made for the original Keurig v1.0 machines. They should also work with cloned Keurig v1.0 machines from various makers. All the Keurigs on the market now are the v2.0 machines. So people complain these aren't good pods but it is because they are using the newer machines with these pods designed for the older Keurig brewers.

The explanation could be as simple as the Keurig salesman stopped by the Oval Office and forgot his samples.

So the Keurig salesmen in D.C. go door-to-door like a Fuller Brush man and when they knock on the WH door (having gotten through the front gate), the Secret Service lets him into the Oval Office where he can leave his pod stand?

Was this salesman's name Boris or Vlad by any chance?

You have to admit, if the salesman made it to the Oval Office that's one hell of a salesman. So, yes.

Woh. Not the first time your search skills have impressed me. You are really good at finding the perfect pic.

Yes, those are pods. It appears to be six pods sitting on the desk in front of the phone on Trump's far left. Of those six pods, I think there are two that have a dark solid blue top on them which could mean that they are the Trump brand pods (Trump Select's Skyscraper flavor). But notice this: the Keurig pod stand on the table behind Trump looks to be entirely full. So where did they get those other six Keurig pods? Does Trump also have yet another secret stash of Keurig pods hidden inside his desk?

AND WHERE IS THAT DAMNED KEURIG MACHINE?!?!?!?

It's driving me crazy.

BTW, Trump has a red button in his desk which is used to summon a butler with a diet Coke. Not a regular Coke.

That desk is the historic Resolute desk. FDR used it but not in the Oval office. JFK put it in the Oval Office first. It was gone during LBJ and Nixon and Ford but "President Jimmy Carter brought the desk back to the Oval Office in 1977, where Presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump have used it. George H. W. Bush used the C&O desk in the Oval Office, but kept the Resolute desk in the White House."

Surely the Resolute has too much dignity to be used as Trump's coffee pod stash.

No, I think they are military 'coins.' Every commander from Battalion level on up in the Army (other services do it too) has a unit coin. Usually exchanged with other units, given as an 'atta boy' or earned by a new member of a unit by going through some 'right of passage' (First Cav we have the Spur ride).

In Korea it was ridiculous. Getting coins made was so dirt cheap, every Company level (and even some platoon level) commanders were getting them made. Yes I had some as a Battery commander as I inherited 100 from the outgoing commander.

The tradition is called 'coining' someone. You brief a General officer, he likes how you presented yourself, he digs in the Aide-de-camp bag and he 'coins you.'

If an officer sees a Soldier do something great, instead of waiting for weeks to process an award, you coin him and he can cash that in for a 4 day pass. That is how I did it as many Soldiers were not into collecting coins. If I gave them one, they could keep it or cash it in for something they liked and there is nothing like time off.

So I think those are coins. Different officers visit the President and 'coin him' hoping to get a MAGA hat. LOL.
