Title: Secretary of Defense James Mattis has ordered a full review of any military training not directly relevant to warfighting.

Mattis told the services to conduct a review of the “requirements for mandatory force training that does not directly support core tasks,” according to a Friday memo obtained by Military Times.

In other words, Mattis wants a full examination of all the hours of burdensome, irrelevant training service members have to undergo before deployment.

“I want to verify that our military policies also support and enhance warfighting readiness and force lethality,” Mattis said.

Mattis also asked for a review into what should be done about permanently non-deployable service members.

The memo states that the review will be headed by a working group under the Pentagon’s undersecretary for personnel and readiness, a position currently occupied by Anthony M. Kurta. While President Donald Trump recently tapped Robert Wilkie for the job, Wilkie has not yet been confirmed by the Senate.

Mattis has recently involved himself in various personnel issues, particularly by encouraging Congress to block an amendment by GOP Rep. Vicky Hartzler to the annual defense budget bill that would have prevented Department of Defense funds from being used to pay for transgender medical treatments. Hartzler’s amendment failed after 24 Republicans voted against it.

Recommendations from the new review Mattis has set in motion are due by Dec. 1, 2018.

During his presidential campaign, Trump spoke to a veterans’ group in Oct. 2016 and said “we’re gonna get away from political correctness” in response to a question about social engineering in the military.

“But you’re right, we have a politically correct military and it’s getting more and more politically correct every day. And a lot of the great people in this room don’t even understand how it’s possible to do that.” he said.

Poster Comment:

First he wants to provide funding for TG medical issues, now he's in charge of cutting training costs / time wasted.

Trumps cabinet and staff picks are puzzling.

This should have been done 40 years ago. Maybe even sooner.

Mattis also asked for a review into what should be done about permanently non-deployable service members.

Simple answer. IF possible and reasonable, they should be re-trained and reassigned to a stateside duty position in a rear-echelon MOS like finance, special services, etc, etc, etc.

If,for whatever reason, this can't be done or isn't practical, they should be given discharges "for the good of the service". Those on physical profiles that keep them from doing their jobs should either be medically retired if are career military people with 10 or more years of honorable service. Those with less time should just be discharged and go to the VA and apply for a disability rating from them.

If they are non-deployable for non-physical or mental reasons, such as sick and/or disabled family members they have to provide care for, they should just be given compassionate discharges. The military exists to protect the nation, not provide baby-sitting services for the families of military members. Besides, too many career NCO's have used this dodge to avoid overseas and combat duty. I personally knew a guy that went from E-4 to E-7 and never spent more than 60 days on any overseas assignment, including two PCS transfers to VN while the war was going on,because within a couple of weeks of him leaving, his otherwise "as strong as a bull" German wife would suddenly have a "nervous breakdown" and run screaming to the Chaplin about how her emotional breakdown, and claim her husband needed to be home to help her take care of the children. SOB got credit for two RVN tours and never spend a total of 60 days there or heard a shot fired in the distance. And he was a SF NCO.

I also know of a couple of other senior NCO's that kept pulling similar scams, and never left Bragg their whole careers. Not even to go on training missions.

If you can't or won't deploy, you can't keep your job and you most definitely should NEVER be promoted in your primary MOS. If one can't be found for you that you are qualified to serve in that doesn't require deployments, you should be given a choice of either being demoted into a position you can do,or just be discharged.

BTW,I am personally responsible for getting orders cut for one of the career SF "Ft.Bragg Homesteaders" being sent to VN. I acquired a set of orders with his serial number on them, and called Mrs Alexander in DC and told her I was him,had never been to VN,and needed to go to VN,ASAP. She was the DA employee in DC who was in charge of SF enlisted assignments for decades. When she asked for details,I gave her his name, rank, and serial number. I know he went because he was on the same set of orders as me and on the same jet as me that flew there. He even went there under his primary MOS as a SF weapons man. I have no doubt he blew somebody in personnel for a office job of some sort, but at least he went.

And yes,I do still feel good about that.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.

That won't work for the Navy. Those who win the non-deployable lottery will fill all the shore billets, and the rest will be expected to serve eternal sea duty. The Navy would run out of deployable sailors volunteering for a career on ships.

Maybe. I know very little about the Navy, but I do know they have had female sailors since at least WW-2,and until recent years none of them ever went about a ship that wasn't a hospital ship, and even then they weren't crew members.

Besides,I was thinking about/addressing the ones already in the Navy now who have time in and who want to remain in the Navy. If they have done their jobs well and not been a problem, they should be allowed to remain in uniform like anyone else,IF an appropriate position can be found for them. Fair is fair, and if they were allowed to enlist before as open homosexuals or trannies, they shouldn't be kicked out just because the law changes if they want to remain in uniform and perform with the same amount of responsibility and obedience to the rules as any other sailor.

If this means sending them to another craft school for a new MOS,so be it. The Navy runs those schools every day anyhow,so it really costs them nothing to provide another seat.

BUT.....,NONE of that cross-dressing or other "in your face,I'm different, dammit!" nonsense. If you are in the military, you are a cog in a well-oiled machine, and it doesn't make a damn if you are a seaman or an admiral, you obey the freaking regulations as to dress and conduct. Any tranny or homo who can't accept this has made their choice, and should be led to the exit door.

YOU adapt to the military. The military does NOT adapt to you. It has to be that way. Deal with it or walk away.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.
