Title: Starbucks Crumbles As Investigator Finds 30% Of Coffee Tests Positive For Contamination

Many people around the world enjoy iced coffee and other cool drinks from baristas employed by Starbucks, Caffe Nero, and Costa Coffee. However, they may want to think twice before ordering again. The BBC’s “Watchdog” program performs consumer affairs checks on popular businesses. Their latest discovery found fecal bacteria in samples from the three popular coffee chains.

Yes, that’s right, bacteria that is present in feces is now included with customer’s ice at Starbucks, Caffe Nero, and Costa Coffee.

Samples taken from various stores found changeable levels of contamination. Head of policy at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Tony Lewis said that the amounts were “concerning.”  He added that the bacteria “should not be present at any level – never mind the significant numbers found.”

The investigation tested the cleanliness of tables, trays, and ice at 30 different branches. Not surprisingly, the discovery comes right on the heels of Starbucks’ announcement to employ refugees from third-world countries.

Last week, Starbucks renewed the pledge it made on January 29, 2017 to hire 10,000 refugees, after President Trump announced his temporary travel ban. The former liberal CEO Howard Schultz wrote an open letter to employees that stated, “We are living in an unprecedented time, one in which we are witness to the conscience of our country, and the promise of the American Dream, being called into question.”

Starbucks announced in January that it would hire 10,000 refugees in response to President Trump's travel ban. The move has backfired.

Starbucks announced in January that it would hire 10,000 refugees in response to President Trump’s travel ban. The move has backfired.

When the Supreme Court upheld part of the ban last week, the company immediately announced its commitment to hire another 2,500 refugees for their locations in England and other European countries.

The original pledge cost the company significantly in the States. Not only did social media make much of the un-American stance, the backlash plummeted brand sentiment and sales. Trump supporters boycotted the coffee giant, and according to YouGov BrandIndex, consumer participation levels fell by over 60 percent.

The problem with hiring and accepting refugees is the cultural hygienic difficulties it creates. In Germany and France, the situation is so dire that a company has invented a “multicultural toilet.” Despite pictogram instructions, third world invaders don’t understand how to use Western facilities.

“Many migrants will have never seen toilet paper before,” writes one Deutsche Welle journalist. He added, “refugees nationwide have squatted on toilet rims or the floor of the bathroom… others have relieved themselves in the shower stalls, leaving behind human excrement on the floors.”

Costa Coffee was the worst offender with over 70 percent contamination.

Costa Coffee was the worst offender with over 70 percent contamination.

Islam instructs followers concerning rules and practices “to be followed when answering the call of nature.” One stipulates that people use their fingers to clean themselves, and “if there are still traces,” of excrement people are told to wash them with water. Genital cleaning “with stones and similar materials” is also considered an “acceptable substitute for cleaning them with water.”

The bathroom facilities of Westerners confuse Muslim refugees who use their hands as toilet paper.

The bathroom facilities of Westerners confuse Muslim refugees who use their hands as toilet paper.

Naturally, those type of cleansing techniques are not compatible with Western cultures that use toilet paper, soap, and water. After reading the rules of hygiene, it’s little wonder that “fecal coliforms” were found in places where refugees frequently touch.

The investigation discovered that Starbucks and Caffe Nero tested positive for the bacteria in three out of 10 samples taken. Costa Coffee had the worst contamination. Seven out of 10 samples tested positive for fecal bacteria in drinks.

Fecal bacteria was found in the ice of three major coffee chains, including Caffe Nero, Starbucks, and Costa Coffee.

Fecal bacteria was found in the ice of three major coffee chains, including Caffe Nero, Starbucks, and Costa Coffee.

The BBC has reported that all three chains claim to have “taken action.” Costa said that it updated its ice-handling guidelines and was “introducing new ice equipment storage.” Starbucks and Caffe Nero said they were going to perform their own investigations.

Rather than looking into the violations more closely or buying new ice containers, the coffee providers might consider the toilet practices of the people they hire. Better yet, have “refugees” actually assimilate to the culture where they flee instead of keeping 1,000 year old practices of using their hands to wipe themselves.

Whether the investigation will influence sales in the United States is anyone’s guess. Starbucks is already reeling under the backlash of patriot purchasers, another blow could seriously jeopardize their strangle hold on over-priced coffee drinks in America. (4 images)

Been there once, a long time ago and their coffee is probably the worst I have ever tasted.

This is just another reason not to go there - I hope they go bankrupt.

Now that it probably has muzzie turds floating in the pot, it is probably even worse now.

I hope all those idiots that were holding up signs that said " Refugees Welcome " go there everyday and drink gallons of the stuff.

I almost feel the urge to revisit global toilet habits, as we did back at LP during the Soshi Olympics.

Thought that happened here.

Well where do you want to start?

Seen the above quite often in the Middle East. One Iraqi headquarters the "bathroom" was a minefield of human excrement causing me to dance like Fred Astaire to get the toilet which was fairly clean as every other square inch of the bathroom was not. I was told this was because Arab men find it unclean to sit where another man's naked behind was. Wonder what they think about stepping in someone else's excrement. Guess Starbucks knows. Can't offend another culture can we? Better off we all get sick than to offend.

Sure you want to discuss how some cultures have regressed from 1st century sanitary standards? Loads of examples.

It just astonishes me that we've spent over a century trying to teach doctors and public health officials what proper sanitation means in terms of health and longevity and it still hasn't really worked. They could do so much better for themselves for little or no money.

I suppose we are dragging the thread off-topic. We started out with poop-infested yuppie coffeehouses.

Ya gotta be kidding. Nice accommodations over there!! (NOT in the US Army manual, eh?)

Oh, the irony. Yet that have NO reservations about exchanging bodily fluid with camels and goats (sure, I know -- but pretty ones! 8-P

That are sooo de rigueur if you're 17-40. (Are the SAME employees picking lettuce before heading off to Starbucks to spread that same "joy"?)

Even after this latest un-sanitary scandal, it'll still be cool ordering your Latte sprinkled with cinnamon-flavored fecal matter from the typical lobotomized Starbucks employee. Meh -- the hot water probably kills most of the bacteria anyway...

It's on topic. Those yuppies keep hiring people who obviously refuse to come into at least the 19th century.

I'm sure some of the ancient satraps in the ME knew how to poop directly in a pot and then wash his hands.

Well let's not be too rash with foreigners working here.

Our millenials are no better. They take their smart phones on the toilet, then perhaps wash their hands and then go back into the restaurant kitchen and stir a pot of food as they text with the other. Hands may be clean but the device is full of germs.

Saw it in the hospital when visiting my dad. Watched a nurse come from a MRSA warning room to dad's room walking and talking on her phone. I told her to stop right there and leave her phone outside the room.

And we wonder why people get more sick in hospitals.

I was there in the late '70s. There were no toilets where we were, except for in the city hotels (which also had bidets). There was a hole in the floor and left handed wiping if you didn't know to bring your own paper. Otherwise fairly clean. Not the mess in the picture above. (What, no latrine duty anymore?)

They either need to get western real quick or we need to have Arab stalls with holes in the floor. Maybe adopt our own sharia law -- cut off shoot their left hand if they handle anything with it.

I think the ancient Jews were pretty sanitary. I'm not sure how widespread their habits were. They were (and are) a Semitic people. I would say that their adherence to the religious restrictions about bathing and ritual purity and the fact they had a recognized body of scripture to keep that tradition going over the centuries was what made the Jews differ from the ancient peoples of the region.

I'm not sure if I've ever read anything about the personal hygiene habits of ancient monarchs. I'm afraid to even look for info for fear of being subjected to poopy hieroglyphics showing some despot pharaoh doing his "business".

Regular handwashing with clean fresh water really is a modern thing, from the last few centuries. A few centuries ago, the monarchs of Europe were still using chamberpots. By contrast, the ancient Romans of the biblical era had plenty of public baths, spent lavishly on them. And they were certainly a feature of public life and culture in the ancient Roman metropolitan area. But I never read that ancient Romans had any habit of regular handwashing with fresh clean water after using the toilet or before preparing/serving food. That's all modern stuff, mostly from the last century or so.

Well you asked.

Which I must say the above is not far from the homemade field latrines we had in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Well until Desert Storm when we were heading cross country and stopping only for small periods of time. We exercised the use of the 'cat hole' and buried our waste.

Suring Shield we were in the middle of the desert but stationary for long periods of time so made use of the field latrines and then had to burn the poop. Of course we always washed our hands afterwards.

IIRC, in "The Burma Road" is a description of life on the march which included a vignette about the East Indian natives who would step off the trail and relieve themselves in full view then pick up and carry on without bothering to cover it.
