Actor Johnny Depp appeared to threaten US President Donald Trump during a speech at the Glastonbury Festival.
Can you bring Trump here? he asked the audience, as he introduced a screening of his film The Libertine.
After receiving jeers from the crowd, he added: You misunderstand completely. When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?
I want to clarify, he added, Im not an actor. I lie for a living [but] its been a while. Maybe its about time.
The star acknowledged that his comments which may have been a reference to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln by actor John Wilkes Booth in 1865 would prove controversial.
By the way, this is going to be in the press and itll be horrible, he said. Its just a question, Im not insinuating anything.
He is not the first US celebrity to allude to killing the president.
Casual Johnny Depp: When was the last time an actor assassinated a President? GOP reps targeted & shot days ago, tweeted one user, Chet Cannon, referring to the incident.
The US Secret Service is aware of Depps comments, according to ABC News.
EPA The Pirates of the Caribbean actor said his comments were going to be in the press and itll be horrible
Festival-goers in Somerset met his comments about President Trump with laughter, albeit mixed with shock.
Depp wearing distressed jeans and a black fedora was mobbed by fans as he arrived at Worthy Farm.
Speaking to the BBC afterwards, one fan was more concerned with meeting her idol than analysing his politics.
I dont even know what to say. Im going to die, said Jess Gallagher. He reached out and touched my hand and I dont know what to do.
Hes an amazing actor and Ive loved him ever since I studied him in year 11 in A-Level drama. I cant cope!
No real surprise he thinks that way because his father was a commie, and he grew up thinking that crap was the real deal.
What is surprising is that no matter how stupid they may be,the typical actor is NOT going to say something like that in front of a microphone or where a reporter is present because they know it's a career killer. Ticket sales to anything associated with Depp will now drop into the basement, and no matter how far left the movers and shakers and finance people in Hollywood may claim to be,the real God they worship ain't Marx,it's their bank account balances. The bottom line IS "THE Bottom Line".
ANY actor that does anything to harm The bottom lines of the producers and directors never gets hired again to act.
Soon Johnny Depp will be making appearances at the openings of new Starbucks,on late night tv,and on late night radio stations.
If he didn't bank or invest his money,he is screwed.

Pretty sure Depp's ticket sales are already in the loo.
Thanks to recent ticket booth disappointments, Depp is this year's most overpaid actor: His last three movies returned just $2.80 at the box office for every $1 he was paid on them. While the damning accusations did not impact his earnings during our scoring period, they look set to damage his box office prospects for months to come. It's the latest bad career news for Depp, who has suffered some high-profile misses including last year's Mortdecai and 2014's Transcendence.
Will Smith, who ranks second, has had a similarly poor run at the box office: He returned a dismal $5 at the ticket booth for every $1 he earned from his recent films. With Concussion, an Oscar nod evaded him and the movie barely met its $34 million production costs; Focus was a little better. Smith's outsized paydays, coupled with box office disappointments, translate to poor returns.

Pretty sure Depp's ticket sales are already in the loo.
Maybe he is trying this stunt to increase them.
You may be right. I don't really follow any of them enough to really know how they are doing career-wise because I really don't care.
If what you say is true, this may be Depp trying to turn a negative into a positive because you just KNOW the movers and shakers in Hollywood HATE Trump.
As for Will Smith,he has developed an ego bigger than a bus,and for some reason has became a black racist as well as a professional fool. I wish nothing but bad thing for him.

Depp is a good actor, one of the best that I've seen. His politics are against him these days, and he's been at it a long while, getting long in the tooth for the 18-40 demographic. Still, he's not going to fade away unless he wants to. He's too good at the craft.
