The owner's Honda Civic was parked on Broadway between 27th and 28th streets on Saturday night.
He was headed to the police department when he spotted his own car heading down Avenue C near 28th Street and started following it, according to Bayonne police Capt. Janine Foy.
He eventually cut Diaz off and started punching and kicking him in the street.
In a video taken across the intersection, two men can be seen crowded around Diaz, while a woman can be heard screaming for the beating to stop.

Foy said the owner loaned the Civic to someone, who then handed it off to another person, although the owner denied that it had been passed off to anyone.
