It has only been a little over one month since four Carroll High School sophomores announced their plans to solicit donations for the Carroll Police Department’s K-9 unit. In early April, Kayde Nissen, Merkl Kauch, Tyler Tuning and Tyler Comstock expanded on a class project that only called for them to come up with a fundraising idea. They put that plan into action, and though the Carroll Police Department has not had a K-9 in service since 2007, Chief, Brad Burke, reports they are getting much closer. As of Tuesday, the K-9 fund has raised $6,375. The fundraising efforts continue as the cost of acquiring and training a new K-9 officer can be up to or more than $20,000. For those interested in donating, an account has been established at Commercial Savings Bank in Carroll and contributions can also be left at the Carroll Police Department.
