Jared Kushner offered to marry Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski during the couple's trip to President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate back in January, Scarborough told Vanity Fair.
The "Morning Joe co-hosts, long rumored to be a couple, got engaged last week in Antibes, France while celebrating Brzezinski's 50th birthday.
An MSNBC spokesperson confirmed news of the engagement to The Hill.
According to Scarborough and Brzezinski's account in Vanity Fair, Trump a week after the inauguration suggested over dinner that they hold the ceremony at Mar-a-Lago or the White House.
"Once the fish and scalloped potatoes had been served, and special sauces delivered directly to Trump were placed on the table, the couple said that the president came up with an idea: If they planned on getting married, they should consider doing so at Mar-a-Lago or the White House," the couple recalled, according to the publication.
Thats when Jared [Kushner] interrupted and said, Hey, you know what? Ive got my license. I could marry you, Scarborough said.
Why would you marry them? They could have the President of the United States marry them, Trump responded, according to Scarborough.
Scarborough and Brzezinski, who have been especially critical of Trump after a friendly relationship for much of the first year of his campaign, told Vanity Fair they have ruled the idea out.
Trump hasn't appeared on "Morning Joe" or any MSNBC program since May of 2016.
The White House hasn't commented on the matter. In addition to being Trump's son in law, Kushner serves as a White House senior adviser.
Last month, Scarborough said on the air that he and Brzezinski "have a crackling on-air chemistry, and a crackling off-air chemistry, too. I think that pretty much says it, doesnt it?
Brzezinski has two daughters with her former husband, whom she divorced last year.
Scarborough, a former GOP congressman from Florida, has four children and divorced his wife of 12 years, a former aide to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, in 2013.
No wedding date is set yet.
