15-year-old boy killed in officer-involved shooting in Balch Springs Community members are asking questions about why an officer fired into a car, killing a 15-year-old boy. According to Balch Springs police, officers responded to a report of intoxicated teenagers on a residential street in the 12300 block of Baron Drive at 11 p.m. Saturday. Neighbors said a large house party was underway at that time. Police say when officers arrived on the street, they heard gunfire and then a car filled with passengers back towards them. "There was an unknown altercation with the vehicle backing down the road towards the officers in an aggressive manner. An officer shot at the vehicle, striking a front seat passenger. The individual was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased," according to a news release by the Balch Springs police. Balch Springs police did not identify the officer involved, but they say he has been placed on administrative leave. Police are not identifying the boy, but friends say he was 15-year-old Jordan Edwards. Many of his coaches and community members showed up at the news conference Sunday afternoon demanding answers from authorities and expressing frustration at a lack of information. "Great kid. Awesome parents. He was not a thug. This shouldn't happen to him," said Chris Cano, whose son played football with Edwards. Balch Springs Police Chief Jonathan Haber said he has already met with the family of the boy and has expressed his condolences. The department immediately turned over its investigation into the incident to the Dallas County Sheriff's Department. Balch Springs did not offer any further explanation for why the officer felt threatened, but Attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing the Edwards family, disputed the police account. He said there was no aggression from the vehicle. He also said none of the occupants in the vehicle were armed. "They were simply leaving a party where they believed danger was, so I can't wrap my mind around why an officer decided to shoot into the car," said Merritt. Merritt said the Edwards family wants to see police body cam footage and wants better answers for how the incident unfolded. He said one of Jordan Edwards' brothers was also riding in the vehicle, and the driver was also 15-years-old. WFAA reached out to the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, but have not yet heard back on their investigation.

Ah! NOW you show up. Too bad you didn't show up at that party where underage kids were drinking, fighting and firing guns.
The fact that the shots started after the cops showed up. makes me wonder if the police were the only ones shooting? The officers probably were in danger, from other cops. The kids were doing the right thing in leaving the wild party. They did succeed in leaving, but the passenger in the front seat had been shot dead by psychotic maniacs. They had to kill to kids to save them. From what I got off the news last night was that the officers were called out and when they got there they heard gun shots and a speeding car backing up towards them. The officer or officers open fire into the vehicle. Now we will have to see what comes from it. Im thinking quick on the draw but I have not seen the video or listen to people there. I will hold by comment about the kid because like Trayvon who was portrayed as a young innocent child of 14 by his family and MSM turned out to be a 16 yold POS druggy that attacked the guy. Yes sad.

Then they were being fired upon." They were leaving because they were underage at a party where there was alcohol. They weren't fleeing the "wild party". They were fleeing the cops who would have arrested them. So they backed out in a hurry, almost hitting the cops who fired in self defense.

Maybe the Chief would let you watch his copy. On Monday afternoon, however, after watching the body camera footage, the chief realized he’d spread a lie. So, he did the right thing and told the public the truth — the car was not a threat and was driving away. Police Chief Jonathan Haber admitted on Monday that the car full of innocent teenagers was driving away from the officer when he raised his AR-15 and shot Jordan Edwards in the head. “It did not meet our core values,” Haber said of the officer’s actions. Then how did he shoot through the passenger side window -- a fact that no one has refuted?
That is NOT what Haber admitted….that is what someone said Haber admitted. Read what the Chief said. Don’t read into it what you want to believe. Here, let me help you … Haber had initially said before viewing the body cam footage, the car was driving backward when Jordan Edwards was shot [through the passenger side window]. Then Haber said after reviewing the body cam footage, the car was driving forward when Jordan Edwards was shot [through the passenger side window]. Haber never said the driver of the car did NOT try to hit the officer while driving forward, did he? Nope! The only thing changed in the story is the direction of the vehicle and not the cause of the incident or the reaction of the officer to the incident. You do understand that, right? There is still no indication the officer did wrong or confirm the shooting was justified. You do understand that, right? Actually, Police Chief Jonathan Haber shouldn’t be making any statement at all since there is an ongoing investigation by the Dallas County Sheriff Office. Dallas County Sheriff, Lupe Valdez and Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson offices are conducting fair, independent and thorough investigations. Instead of peeing in your panties thinking that a startling discovery has been made to prove the officer acted improperly simply because you want to read something into what was not said by the Chief….it is best to just wait until the investigation is complete and then decide. Do you think that you can possibly do that? Try ....try really hard!
