A former Corning teacher who was charged with rape for allegedly having sexual contact with a minor has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a reduced charge. Kelly Conway, who was a middle school teacher in the Corning-Painted Post School District, was sentenced Tuesday in Village of Painted Post Court to three years of probation. She also surrendered her teaching license as part of the plea agreement and will be required to wear an ankle bracelet for 90 days, according to Painted Post Police Chief Dennis Mullen. Conway was charged in April 2016 with third-degree rape, a felony, following a 16- month investigation by the Painted Post Police Department. Police accused Conway of having sexual contact with a person under the age of 17. They did not release the age or gender of the alleged victim. Conway pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child. Meanwhile, Conway is still technically employed by the school district. "The teacher remains on administrative leave. The district is reviewing its legal obligations and rights with its attorney and for these reasons cannot comment further," said Jeff DeLorme, assistant superintendent for administrative services.
