A Spanish Fort High School teacher faces criminal charges for hosting an underage post-prom party at her Daphne residence last month. Kimberly Smith, and her husband, David, were charged with hosting an open house party following Spanish Fort's prom, which took place on March 17. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office was first made aware of the party, which was held for juvenile students, on Friday. On Tuesday, investigators with the Sheriff's Department and the Alabama Department of Human Resources spoke with six juveniles and their parents at Spanish Fort High School. Four of the students admitted to speaking with Smith's daughter about the party at her home following prom. According to a sheriff's news release, the students that attended the party were provided food and alcohol by both David and Kimberly Smith. Most of the students admitted to partaking in drinking alcohol. Students, according to authorities, said that Kimberly Smith instructed them to "give her their car keys and phones so they would not drink and drive or post images on social media of the party." Two juveniles were told by Smith, "do not tell anyone" as she did not want to get in trouble or lose her job. Smith, according to the Spanish Fort High School website, teaches two different Spanish classes with the foreign languages department. According to the Baldwin County School System, Smith has been employed as a teacher since 2005. She was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a human resources investigation. "Both the school system and law enforcement continue to investigate this matter, so our comment is limited," said Superintendent Eddie Tyler in an emailed statement. "I can say that illegal activity will not be tolerated by any employee."
