A major defection in the conservative blogosphere Charles Johnson, founder of Little Green Footballs, announces a final break By Alex Koppelman

For much of this decade, Charles Johnson was one of the right's leading bloggers. His blog, Little Green Footballs, was famous for its focus on Islamic terrorism, but also for the role it played in "Rathergate" and in exposing various faked photography.

Lately, though, Johnson has been trending back to the left, where he was before the attacks of 9/11. He's been picking fights with some people on the right, arguing with old friends over bloggers like Robert Stacy McCain, a former Washington Times editor who he believes is a racist.

On Monday, Johnson made the split official, with a post headlined, "Why I Parted Ways With The Right." In it, he gave a list of reasons for the break, including:

1. Support for fascists, both in America (see: Pat Buchanan, Robert Stacy McCain, etc.) and in Europe (see: Vlaams Belang, BNP, SIOE, Pat Buchanan, etc.)

2. Support for bigotry, hatred, and white supremacism (see: Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Robert Stacy McCain, Lew Rockwell, etc.)

3. Support for throwing women back into the Dark Ages, and general religious fanaticism (see: Operation Rescue, anti-abortion groups, James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Tony Perkins, the entire religious right, etc.) ....

6. Support for anti-government lunacy (see: tea parties, militias, Fox News, Glenn Beck, etc.)

7. Support for conspiracy theories and hate speech (see: Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Birthers, creationists, climate deniers, etc.) ....

10. Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)

Johnson concluded the post saying, "The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff. I won’t be going over the cliff with them."

At this point, his former comrades in the conservative blogosphere aren't likely to be shedding any tears over his loss. But Johnson was once one of the biggest figures among them.

Another "neo-con" who was taughted as the next, best thing to sliced bread.

The Republican/Conservative movement is dead. Killed by the neo-cons.

Nationalism boys is the way to you.

There is still time to jump on the caboose before it leaves the station.

Thank GOD it will never catch on in these US. Nor most likely will it elsewhere. The electorate, as ignorant as they may be on some things, are smart enough and individualistic enough to recognize and find the rhetoric being spouted by racists like Nick Griffin distasteful.

I just wish Mr. Johnson at LGF would have toned down his own nationalistic rhetoric and undying support for useless foreign wars for the past 8 damn years sooner

You must be one of the One-Worlder group that loved Boy Jorge and loves Bubba Barry.

Unless we all want to live in a slightly upscale 3rd world police state,we had all better push nationalism.

BTW,nationalism is being a America Firster, not being a national socialist. Boy Jorge,Bubba Bill Clinton, and Bubba Barry Soetoro and the rest of the New World Order bunch are closer to being national socialists than they are nationalists.

Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan were nationalists.

Nope have no use for Junior or the the current moron. Really haven't had a President in the 20th century that was worth a can of warm p#ss (except perhaps Reagan and not for what he did but what he advocated on the stump while running in 79-80).

we had all better push nationalism.

No problem with some level of pride in one's nation. But you really need to look into the history of the BNP and Nick Griffin before you advocate what that racist is pushing

and the rest of the New World Order bunch are closer to being national socialists

Which goes to show you don't know what Nick is pushing. He's to the left of Labour (Labour is where most of the votes came from last time if you didn't know) and he advocates nationalisation of private industry. Doesn't sound very 'capitalistic' to me...

May also want to give another one of Daniel Hannan's old columns a read to learn a bit more about the BNP..

There's nothing Right-wing about the BNP

The BNP doesn’t call itself Right-wing, of course. It favours nationalisation, higher taxes, protectionism and (though it keeps quiet about this) republicanism. It markets itself as “the Labour Party your parents voted for”. Its manifesto calls for “the selective exclusion of foreign-made goods from British markets and the reduction of foreign imports,” and promises to “restore our economy and land to British ownership” and “to give workers a stake in the success and prosperity of the enterprises whose profits their labour creates by encouraging worker shareholder and co-operative schemes”.

As Hayek wrote in 1944 in his brilliant chapter on “the socialist roots of Nazism”, the dispute between fascists and socialists is a dispute between brothers. Labour and the BNP are, in a sense, competing for the same sort of voter: one who believes in the power of the state. The one kind of voter whom both fascists and socialists regard as beyond persuasion is the small-government Tory.

Get that did you?

to give workers a stake in the success and prosperity of the enterprises whose profits their labour creates by encouraging worker shareholder and co-operative schemes

Hope you like your commune comrade....

Wow giving the worker a say, horrendous. Protecting British businesses, horrendous. Buying out foreign companies and selling them to british businessmen,, just god awful. I mean, if Von Mises doesn't like it, It can't be good. God forbid they lower the trade deficit, keep money in the country, protect wages, and protect british companies. A government that actually works in the favor of the people they reprsent and protects industry that strengthens the country; can't have that.

As to taxes, what you are stating is an all out lie. They actually support raising the inheritance tax threshold to 1 million pounds and cutting council tax.

And as to talk about nationalization, would you prefer we have private utilities? Because the California Edison Crisis was a real great example of private markets running a public utility.

You are right on one thing though, they aren't Capitalists, and you act as though it should bother me.

The only thing I am advocating is American nationalism. I don't give a rabid rats ass what the British or anyone else does as long as it doesn't affect America. My prime concern is preserving a sovereign America and the US Constitution.

What the British and others do is their business and their problem or salvation, depending on your viewpoint.

The BNP is growing and gaining popularity. They will take seats in Westminster next election. The British People are marching on to take their country back, just like the Swiss did by cutting immigration and banning minarets. Hopefully America will take note as well.
