Title: Rand Paul Blocked By Armed Guards From New Obamacare Bill (Secure Location, Not Available)

the Republican Senator from Kentucky, Rand Paul, has tweeted out that he is currently being blocked by armed guards from viewing new, and the secretly kept Obamacare bill.

It was hours earlier that Paul tweeted that he heard that the Obamacare bill, being touted as Obamacare-lite by critics, is ” under lock & key, in a secure location, & not available for me or the public to view.”

The liberty minded Senator did not take kindly to this information and made his intention to share the bill with the public clear in another tweet.

Upon his arrival at a House hideaway in the Capitol, Paul claimed he was told he could not remove the bill and make it public. The Senator then held an impromptu press conference for media complaining about House Republicans’ lack of transparency, reports Politico.

WATCH:

Reports also came in that Paul brought a copy machine with him, presumably to make copies of the bill to share with anyone who’d listen.

Politico reports that Paul had an exchange with a staffer as he tried to make off with the draft bill, which could be voted on later this month.

“I said I liked to get a copy and they said no go. She wouldn’t tell us anything really,” Paul said in an interview afterward. “Even if I were allowed to look at it, which it didn’t look like I was, how is that democracy?”

Republican aides said they believed the room on the first floor of the Capitol is being used for Energy and Commerce members to read the bill. Rep. Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.), a committee member, said he was also not able to read the bill and was told it was not available, explains Politico.

“It’s literally illegal in my state to do that,” Paul said in the interview. “You can understand for national security why we do it. But for goodness sakes for a healthcare bill? It’s crazy.”

The battle for transparency is likely a case that will leave those who want honest repeal of Obamacare completed, either an entire replacement of the legislation or a complete scrapping of it, not a watered down Obamacare-lite version which would keep key provisions of the old bill.

However, the rules in the Senate are a bit more complex. If the bill makes it to a vote, it needs only 51 votes. But you can debate as long as you wish before it goes to a vote. You can force someone to stop deliberating by a cloture vote and that takes 60 votes.

If Cruz/Paul/Lee can find another GOP senator or two, it would spell real trouble.

Too bad Sessions isn't still in the Senate. He probably would have opposed this bill.

It definitely could spell trouble.

Which bill....I thought "the bill" was still a "work in progress."

Ronald Reagan, Rand, Ron Paul and family, all supporters of the republic of the USA.

it ONLY takes 51 votes to pass a bill in the Senate and the House…

They're all opposed to Gatlin's democratic revolution to overthrow the republic.

God bless the republic of the USA. Down with Gatlin's Gay Canary democracy!

Wrong again. It takes more than that 51 votes in the House, because there are more seats. Please quit lying, or at least try to cut back.

Rand loves these publicity stunts, but he's likely to fall into line with Mitch McConnel and the Trump establishment when push comes to shove.

He's sort of neocon-lite.

But you need to debate before it gets to a vote. The Senate fancies itself the "world's greatest deliberative body", and they'll deliberate as long as somebody wants to. You can force them to stop deliberating by a cloture vote, and that takes 60 votes.

Not true. McConnell can declare an unending "legislative day" that can span many calendar days. Then, under Senate rules, you can let each member in opposition speak twice. Then you have to vote and a simple majority will carry it.

It's all in the Senate rules. This is how they passed the Civil Rights Act back in the Sixties. The same rules are still there, they are among the oldest and most established rules, along with the filibuster.

However, if they bring just a budget reconciliation bill that matches exactly a bill in the House, then they can just invoke a simple majority vote without any debate at all.

The Senate has a lot of sneaky rules. This is the kind of stuff Robert Byrd was so famous for.

IT'S NOT A BILL,IT'S A FREAKING DRAFT. Nobody has any idea at this point what is going to be in the bill when it finally appears because it is still being negotiated.

If we had a president instead of a confused screw-up, he would send in a platoon of special forces to gain access to the bill, with instructions to kill anybody, including the so-called armed guards that offered any resistance whatsoever. We need to keep an eye on all of them. And Trump too. His daughter is teeing up Dem-flavored family leave. Trump sounds like he's ready to ram Ryan's plan through whether he understands it or not, and they are definitely trying to gauge whether we'll tolerate some big Shamnesty.

That is a generalized inference and a pile on comment that may or may not be based on evidence and reasoning. Rather than abstractions, I prefer specifics.

Therefore, can you tell me unambiguously what Ryan is dishonest about in a draft bill that no one has seen, and has no requirement to see…a draft bill that is still in being worked on in committee and continually coordinated for changes with Senate counterparts and the WH?

I haven’t seen no evidence that Ryan is dishonest in any way about this draft bill. If there is such evidence….I really would like to see it. I am not seeking confrontation….I am seeking information.

They are hiding something and Rand Paul is trying to expose them.
The House bill is a work in progress. Paul Ryan briefed a group of Senators on the House working draft bill. Rand Paul was in that meeting and didn’t like a few things in the House bill….points that are still under consideration and being negotiated. It was reported that Rand Paul “stormed” angrily out of the meeting. Now, Rand Paul is only grandstanding trying to promote his draft bill. He wants to do that by publically nitpicking an ever changing work in progress House version of the bill.
Nothing wrong with the people seeing what our representatives tentative ideas are.
How is that possible?

The “tentative ideas” being drafted in the house changes from minute to minute. The cost estimate, legislative language or policy details are in continuing evolution. There is no way the public could be kept informed on the numerous negotiated compromised changes and improvements. It is a thousand page bill that word by word is literally being modified throughout the day with coordination between the House, their counterparts in the Senate and the WH.

The Republicans in the House are diligently working for a deadline to repeal legislation by the end of the month and send it over to the Senate. The Senate leaders are seeking to vote by April 7.

The whole process is still so fluid and bogged down by policy disputes like the one Rand Paul has as to whether there should be refundable tax credits which he sees as an entitlement. Among other things, there is also contention about whether a Medicaid expansion is going to be repealed and how to pay for it.

So you want the public to see 1000 pages of “tentative ideas” that are changing by the minute?

I repeat: How is that possible?

I went searching and the first thing I found was where someone in Rand Paul’s office noted that President Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) have reacted favorably to the idea that Rand Paul has been pushing for his colleagues to have a replacement plan ready to pass simultaneously with repeal of ObamaCare, a demand that has recently been gaining support inside the party.

That is really stretching it, TC….calling the withholding the contents of a bill that is work in progress until it is finalized being “dishonest.”.

Back in 2009, we heard no end of bitter complaints that the Dems had locked Republicans out of the room where they were writing their bill and Pelosi daftly talking about passing it to see what's in it.

The complete quote is here:

You’ve heard about the controversies, the process about the bill…but I don’t know if you’ve heard that it is legislation for the future – not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America,” she told the National Association of Counties annual legislative conference, which has drawn about 2,000 local officials to Washington. “But we have to pass the bill so that you [members of the association] can find out what is in it – away from the fog of the controversy.”

It has been said: “Pelosi was conveying that she was anxious for people to find out what was actually in the bill away from the controversies and lies….see no death panels!” And she definitely was not telling Republicans: “YOU must pass the bill to see what’s in it.” As it has often been misconstrued.

Seems to me that Ryan's crew is following the same exact path.

Like when a Senator dragged a portable copy machine all across the Capitol and then called an impromptu press conference in front of a door in the House he already knew he would be forbidden entry into….and then, whining like a baby because he was not permitted entry?
I think not …
I'm still on the same side I was always on, with the Tea folk for "repeal 0bamaCare". Period.
Which side was that again?

Oh yea, you sided with and supported Rand Paul in his pathetically dismal showing as a POTUS candidate.

I have absolutely no problem with you supporting a losing side and a lost cause.

After all, it is America and our freedom here gives everyone an opportunity to make a complete ass of themself.

God Bless America.

I don't think you can say [you are on the same side you were always on].
Of course I can and you shouldn’t be making such a false assumption.

I picked my side on June 16, 2015.

You remember that date….if not, you most certainly should.

It was the date I watched Donald Trump with lofty majestic dignity and an imposing stately aspect descend on the escalator at Trump Tower to announce his candidacy for president.

Oops, I go carried away with listening to that again.

Now, continuing on ...

… without hobbling along leaning on Pelosi's daft speechifying back in the day.
Oh, au contraire!

You gave an inaccurate quote by Pelosi….taken out of context.

I merely posted the correctly worded quote for you and placed it in proper context for informational accuracy and objective understanding.

You do like to have informational accuracy and objective understand….right?

I thought so …

You were defending Pelosi and what she said and I caught you doing it. Now you're trying to wiggle away from it while hurling accusations.

Nah!

You got pissed off and started to talk foolishly and mindlessly.

I merely straightened your libertarian ass out.

And a fine job I did ….

Fine. Keep defending Pelosi, comrade. You've flown your true colors here and you can't wiggle away from it.

Keep defending Pelosi, comrade.

That’s funny….really funny.

You Paultard libertarians cannot stand it when someone aggressively stands up to you and backs you down.

When this happens, you do the only think you can do….you always isolate on some single item and lung into a personal attack against the individual kicking your ass.

Both you and Deckard are masters at attempting this….but when trying it with me, you are pissing in the wind.

However, if that is all you have in your ammunition bag….then fire away.

I will observe your predictable Paultard libertarian actions with great amusement….as I always have.
