Title: Rand Paul Blocked By Armed Guards From New Obamacare Bill (Secure Location, Not Available)

the Republican Senator from Kentucky, Rand Paul, has tweeted out that he is currently being blocked by armed guards from viewing new, and the secretly kept Obamacare bill.

It was hours earlier that Paul tweeted that he heard that the Obamacare bill, being touted as Obamacare-lite by critics, is ” under lock & key, in a secure location, & not available for me or the public to view.”

The liberty minded Senator did not take kindly to this information and made his intention to share the bill with the public clear in another tweet.

Upon his arrival at a House hideaway in the Capitol, Paul claimed he was told he could not remove the bill and make it public. The Senator then held an impromptu press conference for media complaining about House Republicans’ lack of transparency, reports Politico.

WATCH:

Reports also came in that Paul brought a copy machine with him, presumably to make copies of the bill to share with anyone who’d listen.

Politico reports that Paul had an exchange with a staffer as he tried to make off with the draft bill, which could be voted on later this month.

“I said I liked to get a copy and they said no go. She wouldn’t tell us anything really,” Paul said in an interview afterward. “Even if I were allowed to look at it, which it didn’t look like I was, how is that democracy?”

Republican aides said they believed the room on the first floor of the Capitol is being used for Energy and Commerce members to read the bill. Rep. Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.), a committee member, said he was also not able to read the bill and was told it was not available, explains Politico.

“It’s literally illegal in my state to do that,” Paul said in the interview. “You can understand for national security why we do it. But for goodness sakes for a healthcare bill? It’s crazy.”

The battle for transparency is likely a case that will leave those who want honest repeal of Obamacare completed, either an entire replacement of the legislation or a complete scrapping of it, not a watered down Obamacare-lite version which would keep key provisions of the old bill.

Time is short.

When time is short, you make the best of it. Rand Paul as a Senator is not making the best use of short time by trying to interfere with “work in progress” on a bill in the House.

Lets just say you are wrong on a whole host of issues here.

I am not discussing “a whole host of issues here.” I am discussing only Rand Paul trying to go above, outside and around established and prescribed congressional procedures.

They should release the bill so the public can see what their servants are doing.

What bill? Congress has no bill to release “so the public can see.”

The House has “work in progress” on a bill that when ready, will be sent to the Senate.

However, Rand Paul has stated that he has his drafted version of the bill, but he hasn’t released it to the public….has he? If so, I have not seen it….have you?

The butler isn't allowed to lock out the owner.

Rand Paul isn’t the OWNER of the House of Representatives….and he can be, AND WAS, damned well LOCKED out.

When the House has finished writing their bill, there is then a prescribed procedure for the bill to flow from the House to the Senate.

Rand Paul LEARNED to his stupefying dismay, while pulling his little portable copy machine around capitol hill, that his libertarian ass WILL follow that procedure and he CANNOT shortcut it for publicity.

Fuck him - the world does not revolve around his libertarian prima donna ass demands …

Paul Ryan was on Hannity this week. He claimed he supported "Dr. Paul's bill.
If so, that was then and this is now:
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) walked out of an Obamacare meeting with Speaker Ryan [you solve nothing by walking away, Rand] over Medicaid expansion and the lack of progress to repeal Obamacare.

Speaker Ryan spoke with Senate Republicans Tuesday to assure everyone that an Obamacare repeal is under way. Paul stormed out of the meeting [I’ll take my ball and go home if you don’t play my way], frustrated [like a little spoiled kid pouting] …

I bet there are 20 different versions of bills to replace Obamacare. Why would the Republicans release any one of them? What's the upside to releasing something that may never happen?

The downside, however, is huge.

So, Rand Paul charging from the Senate over to the House, dragging his little portable copy machine behind him, in search of the “work in progress” house bill was not on a “search for information”….Rand was on a “search and destroy mission” to pour water on the powder in the House Republican ammunition bag they are loading.

I agree.

Why should the House Republicans allow a copy of a “work in progress” bill under constant change to be floated in public by Rand Paul just so Rand can use it to promote Rand’s own version of the bill?

Rand had undoubtedly been tipped off to its contents and it is approaching a final form, I think. Trump's SOTU indicated he would back Ryan, at least in broad terms.

The train is leaving the station so Rand is trying to stop it there before the GOP creates a big new entitlement (tax credits for healthcare, even for those who pay no taxes).

The GOP is on a roll similar to that which produced their foul and truly hated Pill Bill back in 2004. "If we don't pass it, the Dems will pass it and it will be even worse!" Well, if that is your excuse it just means the GOP will be just as liberal and irresponsible as the Dims in a race to the Left and a full-blown cradle-to-grave welfare state.

This is why Rand did it.

Last year and the previous 5 years as well.

As Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and the House conservative caucus all say, "Let's pass the same bill we sent to 0bama in 2015."

They're right. They didn't run on repeal-and-replace all those years. Neither did Trump. They all ran on "repeal" alone. Now they want to toss in "replace". Well, if so, they still need to keep their promise and fully repeal 0dingaCare now. Do it first. It won't expire this year anyway so no one will lose their health care.

A new piece on the strategery.

HotAir: Report: House GOP to vote on ObamaCare repeal in three weeks, prepared to “steamroll” conservatives if necessary

See now why Rand Paul was trying yesterday to slow this process down, even if it required a silly stunt to do so? A year ago, fiscal conservatives in Congress would have had no difficulty stoking suspicions among the base that Ryan’s plan to fix ObamaCare involved a whole new entitlement program in the guise of “reform.” A year later, with Trump seemingly behind the Ryan plan, all of that grassroots leverage is gone. To mobilize any significant chunk of the right against a Trump/Ryan proposal, Paul and his allies need time.

And soon time will be up.
At a closed-door meeting with Republicans on Thursday, Speaker Paul Ryan said he plans for the House to hold a vote on the leadership’s Obamacare alternative in three weeks, sources in the room told POLITICO. The White House and the Senate support the House GOP leadership’s effort, Ryan added — comments many in the room took as a warning for the far right to get in line…

“We’re all working off the same piece of paper, the same plan,” Ryan said at a Thursday news conference when asked about conservative opposition. “We are in sync — the House, the Senate and the Trump administration, because this law is collapsing.”…

Privately, senior Republican lawmakers and staff are more blunt. They say they have no problem steamrolling conservatives by daring them to vote against an Obamacare repeal that their constituents have demanded for years.

“Conservatives are going to be in a box,” said one senior Republican lawmaker. Trump, the source predicted, eventually will “go out front and … tell the conservatives … they’re either for this or for keeping Obamacare.”

Yup, that’s what the Journal reported a week ago. The strategy in Congress right now to build Republican consensus is to … admit that there isn’t Republican consensus and then to have the leadership slap a bill on the table and dare dissenters to vote against it. No one’s afraid of defying Ryan but everyone’s afraid of defying Trump, which is why Ryan is emphasizing that he and the White House are “in sync.” Not just rhetorically, either: Mike Pence is in Wisconsin today to show White House solidarity with Ryan at an event to promote the coming health-care reform and Trump’s HHS chief Tom Price has been meeting with conservative dissenters like Rand Paul and Mark Meadows to try to sell them on the new plan.

They're going to try to get Trump to steamroll House conservatives. I'm not sure what they can in the Senate if Paul/Lee/Cruz vote no. They'd still need at least one Dem to pass it.

Sneaky GOPe bastards.

This is why Rand did it.
Excellent analysis.

Rand’s primary concern is of course the draft bill he wishes to pass….and that is as it should be.

But he did not need to make a complete ass of himself with all of the dramatics, dragging a portable copy machine behind him all over the Capitol Building.

I feel certain that every media would have given him ample time to express his position and reason….if only he had requested it.

That would have shown more dignity than having the press trail him over to the House and hastily call a news conference whining that the “the big boys want let little ole me in.”

I was actually on the way to gaining some respect for Rand after his defeat in his run for POTUS and the otherwise strong action he has been taking lately in the Senate. But this antic placed him back on my sh*t list….and rightly so.

Right now, I think Rand is too impressed with the power he “thinks” he has.

None of the Democrats are voting for Trump's cabinet nominees. Does that mean they all believe his nominees are unfit, or is it simply a protest vote?

There's your answer.

WTF are you talking about….idiot?

You need to explain how your statement correlates in either a complementary, parallel, or reciprocal relation when I said:

It behooves every clear thinking democracy loving individual to forcefully speak out against fake news, lies and spin from you Paultard libertarian misguided individuals.
You can’t do that….I understand.
Thank you for explaining why you hate America.

How does when I say that: “It behooves every clear thinking democracy loving individual to forcefully speak out against fake news, lies and spin from you Paultard libertarian misguided individuals” explain anything about hating America?

You want a 51% or more majority, to oppress and enslave America.

Just exactly where did I say I want a 51% majority to oppress and enslave America, show me….YOU CAN’T. That is a phrase you just pulled out of your ass while trying unsuccessfully to attack me.

You want a 51% or more majority….NOT going to happen!

Since you obviously are too dumb to understand squat….let me try to undertake the difficult and probably unachievable task of educating you on the voting rules in the Senate and the House.

You may be surprised to learn that the voting rules haven't changed in a few decades, but the customs have. In both the Senate and the House, you still need a majority (50%+1) to pass a bill and in the House, that's the only consideration.

However, the rules in the Senate are a bit more complex. If the bill makes it to a vote, it needs only 51 votes. But you can debate as long as you wish before it goes to a vote. You can force someone to stop deliberating by a cloture vote and that takes 60 votes.

But you need to debate before it gets to a vote. The Senate fancies itself the "world's greatest deliberative body", and they'll deliberate as long as somebody wants to. You can force them to stop deliberating by a cloture vote, and that takes 60 votes.

It took 67 votes at one time to invoke cloture. That was changed in 1975 so that it wasn't just a talking contest. when that happened, it became possible to block any measure forever if you had 41 Senators. This was done rarely for a long time, not because of the rules but because of the customs. In recent years, the use of filibusters has spiked, and it is now considered essentially mandatory on any bill except the most banal.

So ignorant one, it ONLY takes 51 votes to pass a bill in the Senate and the House….and it takes 60 votes to stop someone in the Senate from filibustering….to pass a bill with 51 votes.

Why are you such a clumsy bungling dumb cluck?

Oh, I know….you are a Gary Johnson libertarian freak, and that explains it.

Not true. McConnell can declare an unending "legislative day" that can span many calendar days. Then, under Senate rules, you can let each member in opposition speak twice. Then you have to vote and a simple majority will carry it.

It's all in the Senate rules. This is how they passed the Civil Rights Act back in the Sixties. The same rules are still there, they are among the oldest and most established rules, along with the filibuster.

However, if they bring just a budget reconciliation bill that matches exactly a bill in the House, then they can just invoke a simple majority vote without any debate at all.

The Senate has a lot of sneaky rules. This is the kind of stuff Robert Byrd was so famous for.

This was nothing more than Paul grandstanding. I am rapidly losing respect for this phoney.

Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? (Ron Paul,2012)

American Indians had open borders. Look at how well that worked out for them.

Republican aides said they believed the room on the first floor of the Capitol is being used for Energy and Commerce members to read the bill. Rep. Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.), a committee member, said he was also not able to read the bill and was told it was not available, explains Politico.

IT'S NOT A BILL,IT'S A FREAKING DRAFT. Nobody has any idea at this point what is going to be in the bill when it finally appears because it is still being negotiated.

If we had a president instead of a confused screw-up, he would send in a platoon of special forces to gain access to the bill, with instructions to kill anybody, including the so-called armed guards that offered any resistance whatsoever. Pile up the bodies, but find out what these assholes are hiding from the American people.

Is that you,Adolph? If it is,somebody should tell you that this is America, and in America the politician's can't order the military to kill civilians.

Robert,I KNOW you have heard of Posse Comitatus, and if that has slipped your mind, you might want to seek medical care.

They should release the bill so the public can see what their servants are doing.

AKA,THERE IS NO BILL TO RELEASE. It's a freaking DRAFT. By the time it becomes an actual Bill, there may not be a single damn thing on it that show up on the actual Bill.

This is just grandstanding. Nothing more. Paul is playing you people for fools in exchange for a little self-promotion.

I bet there are 20 different versions of bills to replace Obamacare. Why would the Republicans release any one of them? What's the upside to releasing something that may never happen?

Amazing,ain't it?

All the REAL crap going on that people need to focus on,and people are allowing themselves to be distracted by THIS crap?

The train is leaving the station so Rand is trying to stop it there before the GOP creates a big new entitlement (tax credits for healthcare, even for those who pay no taxes).

No,the train won't be leaving THAT station for a couple of weeks yet. LOTS of changes can be made in a couple weeks. So many,in fact, that the final Bill may not even resemble the draft they are working from now.

They are hiding something and Rand Paul is trying to expose them. Nothing wrong with the people seeing what our representatives tentative ideas are.

I don't know why people think he's so honest. He's only somewhat better than Boehner.

We need to keep an eye on all of them. And Trump too. His daughter is teeing up Dem-flavored family leave. Trump sounds like he's ready to ram Ryan's plan through whether he understands it or not, and they are definitely trying to gauge whether we'll tolerate some big Shamnesty.

Caveat emptor! Just because voters didn't want Hitlery doesn't mean they sold their souls for any bunch of Big Gooberment plans hatched by Ryan. Or McCain/Graham/Rubio. Or Trump.

They all bear watching.

I don't know what is so hard about this to understand.
