It's very seldom a disturbing dream. It's just a boring forgettable dream. This happens again and again over the course of the night. I probably wake up at least 10 times a night. This happens again and again over the course of the night. The vast majority of dreams are meaningless. In certain psychiatric disorders, the patient may have vivid recurring dreams that indicate the underlying disorder. For normal people, dreaming tends to be pretty random and is mostly just the brain's way of transferring short-term memory to intermediate memory and transferring intermediate memory to long term memory. We all have those dreams like "where the hell did that come from" or, like the ones you describe, "that's boring as hell". But they rarely mean anything. Just the brain doing its memory housekeeping tricks as we are in REM sleep.
