Now I will flip that around: there is a law that says you must behave a certain way. The law is well- intended, but inconvenient in various annoying ways. You can easily do the illegal thing with no chance of any consequence whatsoever. What do you do, obey the law or do what you think is most expedient? Poster Comment: I do what I think is most expedient. Law is nothing more than the opinion of the legislator. If I agree completely with the legislator, then I am not obeying the law when I do what I was going to do anyway. If I disagree with the legislator, then the sole question is whether or not there is a sufficient enforcement mechanism to cause me to take the legislator's opinion into consideration while living my life. As the threat and likelihood of punishment increase, the likelihood that I will bend my own will to fit his increases, as I do a sort of cost-benefit analysis of my actions. At no point do I think that the legislator has the power to set morality simply by setting law.
